The Power (2023)
8/10
I was skeptical at first but watched it turn into a solid work
13 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just finished the series. At the beginning I thought it was another teen show. I gave it a chance because of John Leguizamo and. Toni Collette, both amazing actors. I wasn't disappointed. What seemed like a primarily feminist story started showing all sides and as a woman, I was able to watch this as a woman and understand, and sympathize with, the point of view of most the men in the show while at the same time understanding and sympathizing with most of the women.

Are the women portrayed as victims who gain power? Yes. But typically women are victims in society, so that makes sense. Are the men shown as losing a little bit of power? Yes, because that is what would happen if women had this power. In the movie some people were outraged at the violence some women used their power for, but if you violate and abuse anyone, male or female, anger builds while PTSD plays a factor. As a society we just don't see a lot of violation and abuse of men at the same level as that of women, but boys who are violated and abused grow up to be very angry, but not all. It's almost inevitable. So it makes sense that some women resorted to violence.

Then, at the end of the debate, Margot loses her cool and attacks her opponent. If it had been the other way and Dandon had punched her, he would have been arrested immediately. So it was also showing this powerful weapon in the hands of someone maybe more emotional. But as it is a new power, is that the reason she was so quick to use it? Like her mind or body couldn't control it, and being new, she hasn't had the time to learn more about it? The EOD could be compared to excessive testosterone in a teenage boy. Add trauma and you have the perfect recipe for violence. Kind of the same thing with women.

It's 2am, I'm probably just shooting bull, but I really like this series and I can't wait to see where it goes. I might read the book.

A waste of over 2 hours
25 August 2023
All of it was bad.

The lighting? Bad.

The plot? Bad.

The acting? Bad.

The casting? Bad.

The background music? Bad.

The directing? Bad.

The concept? Bad.

The special effects? Bad.

I cannot come up with 1 thing about this movie that was good. Literally not one. It seemed like a high school freshman drama class came up with the story and got a middle school friend to direct it.

There was nothing scary. There was nothing humorous.

There was just disjointed and ridiculous stuff going on the entire time. This may be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Even Sharknado was far better than this.

Cute story but some negatives
4 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm on episode 1 of season 2. I liked it more in the beginning. Now I'm OK with the show and keep it on while I'm doing something else.

1. If Aimee raised Wendy then Wendy would speak with an accent like Aimee who has a Hispanic accent.

2. General Abbott's accent bounces from American to Russian to British. They brought in a South African actor to play him, then they should have let him just use his own accent.

3. The costumes are ridiculous. How can the turtle kid be wearing a sweatshirt? The kids all look like they are in a school play.

I can't decide if this is a kids' show or not.

But it's entertaining enough.

Absolutely perfect
26 December 2022
I was scared it would be dumb and trying to fit in with movies nowadays with lame attempts at humor but it was perfect.

I laughed the whole way through.

My family and I started watching with skepticism and it disappeared immediately.

The mother character was amazing, and it was good seeing the old gang and new ones. So many scenes are perfectly redone like in the first but instead of being trite the scenes fit.

We all loved it, especially after some very hard times wondering if we were going to even have Christmas. It was what we all needed and will now be a new favorite along with the original.

Terror at the Mall (2014 TV Movie)

Horrifying but well-made documentary
25 February 2022
An entire documentary of footage from the event is hard to come by. I have a hard time watching anything without doing something while I watch and I watched this in its entirety without taking my eyes off the screen. It was in part morbid fascination but mainly I was just enthralled and caught up in what was happening. There were a lot of very brave people in that mall and I hope all of them have recovered from whatever wounds, physical or mental, they received.

And the Kenyan army in 2014? Absolutely useless.

The acting in this is SO BAD
22 February 2022
It's almost painful to watch. I've seen movie shorts made by high school students that had better acting than this. Also, what's with the IMDB description: "Unravel the mystery of a city in Central America that imprisons everyone who enters..." The Midwest is not Central America. And if you want a real laugh, look at the Wiki description for the actress Avery Konrad. I think it was written by a 10 year old.

An absolutely waste of time
20 February 2022
This was ridiculous, painful and stupid. The acting was horrible. The characters were worse. The plot was dumb. All the stupid stuff from the Tesla to the smart phones to the flag to the party on the bus was absolutely absurd. Adding the whole thing about the school shooting was an injustice to anyone who was a victim of a school shooting. The whole film seems to have been made for people who only use social media to communicate and who cannot carry a proper conversation if not being filmed, and cannot read a book.

Covid-era Idiocracy with a message that will be lost on most viewers
26 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Super amount of satire, playing into the ignorance and stupidity which engulfs the world's population, especially when talking about stuff that can kill us like, oh, I don't know, pandemics and global warming.

It's got great actors who do amazing jobs. Meryl Streep is the female equivalent of Trump with a little Bush thrown in and a touch of Clinton, with her dumbass son in a position of power in the White House. Sound familiar?

It's about a message of impending doom coming from scientists with nothing to gain but because it doesn't help the current administration in the WH it is ridiculed while that admin plays to its followers who are the typical group too stupid to think for themselves and who are easily appeased with BS. Sound familiar?

In the end the movie is just really sad. It shows just how stupid we humans are, and though it does it in a comedic way I for one don't want a reminder that because of this stupidity we are doomed.

At this point I would welcome a comet.

Well made and informative
22 December 2021
I really enjoyed this documentary. I like how there is the use of animation along with interviews and real footage. I like that Weird Al narrates the parts of Tiny Tim's diary. I think the length was perfect because any longer it would have been mired down.

Deep, good twist, heart breaking
13 December 2021
Question: why are cop killers deemed the scrounge of the Earth? Why not the same amount of outrage towards, for example, doctor killers? Or teacher killers? Both are examples of people we need in society. Doctors save our lives. Teachers form who we are, they take care of our children. So why isn't there public outrage when a person who is a foundation for a civil society is murdered?

A cop's life has no more or less value than the aforementioned.

Anyway, good twist, heart breaking story.

Review of Season 2, the Shriner story
27 October 2021
I haven't been able to watch the first season so I am reviewing the second. Which I just finished. It's a fascinating and scary look at the way mentally imbalanced individuals can control the minds of other mentally imbalanced individuals and do it easily and with no consequences.

The person of average intelligence would look at this stuff and ask, "How can you believe such ridiculousness?" but unfortunately there are many people who are below average when it comes to intelligence (and ability to use logic and reason) and they are sucked right into these conspiracies in an effort to find someone to blame for their miserable lives.

It's like a bad car crash and I can't look away
18 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm fascinated by the stories while at the same time appalled by the backwardness of some of the officers--blaming sex workers and saying they're disgusting, saying a female murder suspect is attractive if she wears makeup then blaming her boyfriend as if she just couldn't have it in her to murder someone, threatening to beat up anyone they bring into the station whether they have any real suspicion of them being the culprit--and I'm only into episode three!

So while the crimes are motives and scenery are fascinating to me, the behavior of the police is abhorrent and it makes total sense when Indians say they are terrified of the police. They are some truly backwards people. I honestly hope not all of them are like this for the sake of the country.

Enjoyable but would have liked more detail
7 October 2021
I would have liked it to have more detail and seen a bit more of Tony, though I have to say Gandolfini isn't a great actor in my opinion. He is ok in this because there was so little screen time for him. I expected to see more of James Gandolfini in the kid, as adult Tony, but I didn't see it. I'd like to see a next part, maybe as Christopher grows up. He was always my favorite character anyway. Vera Farmiga is good as the mom.

Enjoyable except for one thing
6 October 2021
Apple Girl was played by an actress that would be better off in Sharknado. Her looks and mannerisms don't fit the story at all. Everyone else looks like they could be from that era, while Apple Girl gives me plastic vibes, like is the actress the girlfriend of one of the producers? And she had eye makeup on. Come on. Way to ruin the ambiance with her closeups.

That is what will happen when you watch this, especially the second season. These are some of the most genuine, honest people ever and the rest of us could learn a thing or two from them about what being truly human is about.

Just a show about love.

Poignant, devastating look at how COVID-19 hit
20 September 2021
First of all, Jodi Comer is one of the best actresses to come along in a long time. She is versatile and talented and genuine, and she does an amazing job in this drama.

Secondly, the tales of healthcare workers and care home workers needs to be told. The general public seems too stupid to understand charts, graphs and data, so make more movies like this to get the message across: coronavirus is not to be trifled with.

People need to understand that their actions will have an effect on others.

For everyone saying this is biased not one reviewer has left a comment as to why the doc isn't showing the truth
17 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The last 20 years has been a complete clustercuss, and the blame has to be put somewhere, and that somewhere is, unfortunately on the USA. If they hadn't have intervened in Afghanistan in the 90s and then left the country to fall apart none of this would have happened. It was all about keeping the Soviets from gaining control, but then screw the Afghanis once that was accomplished. What a better environment to see the rise of terrorists than in a highly unstable, uneducated and religious one. So yeah, it's biased in the fact that it all could have been prevented.

This docu-series is enlightening. I personally learned a lot which changed how I feel about things. After everything I have read on the war in Afghanistan and Afghanistan prior to the USAmerican invasion, I feel this docu-series is spot-on.

My only complaint is that it doesn't address the issue of the military industrial complex.

Eye-opening

What I thought I knew about it all I actually didn't. I learned a lot from this, but I still have questions about how much the military industrial complex had to do with the decisions that were made (in my opinion, quite a lot).

Such a beautifully made documentary about mental illness
13 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I like the way this was made though I was confused a bit about time. Was Sean re-enacting when it showed him going on and off the sidewalk? But other than that it's a touching look at victims, both Sean who is a victim of the disease in his brain, and the. Bouvier family, whose lives changed purely by chance that day.

It's good a film was made getting the POV of those who were a part of it, but who ere not convicted
31 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's not so much good for us viewers but for those who are questioned, to have to think about those questions and their actions and inactions. Unfortunately it doesn't quite answer any questions I may have had like, "Why did they allow it to happen?" because they said they would have been killed if they objected but there is no proof of that anywhere (as stated in the film). I've been to Auschwitz-Birkenau and Treblinka. I've seen it, and read loads about the subject, so yes, it's high time a doc was made like this, but still, no one knows why they did it. Collective insanity? Actual deep-seated hatred? Fear? Ignorance? Stupidity? Who knows. And until that answer is found is can happen again.

I will not read any other reviews before leaving mine, CMQ, BELLISSIMO
20 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
GRAZIE A TUTTI COLORO CHE HANNO FATTO QUESTO FILM. Finalmente un film horror valido. Complimenti.

I absolutely loved this movie. It's a capolavoro, finally, in the horror genre. AS an Italian speaker maybe I liked it more than someone who might have seen it either dubbed or with subs. There were so many little things only someone who speaks Italian and/or lives in Italy would actually understand.

I laughed, I was horrified. I didn't have to see any stupid sex scenes. What more can one ask for?

I don't usually watch Italian TV or films because seriously, the majority of them are stupid in my opinion, at least the ones I have been exposed to, so I will opt out, but this time, after seeing the trailer, I had to.

Francesco Russo is incredible. He stole the show. I hope to see more of him.

The film gives some Midsommer vibes, then just as easily some Chainsaw Massacre and then VHS. It's got twists and turns that the viewer can't imagine, and that ending with the guy rating it after only reading others' opinions and seeing literally 5 seconds of the movie? That was PRICELESS.

This movie was slash and gore and fear and terror and horror AND a social commentary and I hope to gawd there will more like it.

Ho dato solo 9 perche' ci sono dei spoofs. Sono piccoli ma notevoli a una come me.

This was a nothing burger that proves how crappy social media is
14 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm so disappointed in Ron Howard. This was a series about absolutely nothing more than a bunch of conspiracy theory searchers with nothing better to do with their lives. Sobhani the dental student is the creepiest, fakest waste of airtime in a long time, and he seems like he keeps a jar of teeth under his bed and sniffs them at night.

There should have been a lot more info from the cops and a lot less airtime given to the internet "sleuths". That was so cringy and it took the story away from Elisa Lam and just turned the whole thing into a show about internet creeps.

And what they did t the Mexican singer Morbid was criminal. Not only were all those people too stupid to understand timelines, but they were too stupid to understand what an effect their actions would have on him.

At the end these narcissists and fakes talk like they were not to blame for their actions, and most likely Elisa Lam would have hated what they did.

The low rating is because this was a waste of time, a nothing burger, just nothing. No substance, no meat, nothing, and should not have been made.

I love this type of animation, I love the actors, the story is intriguing. I flipped it on while bored and watched the whole series in 2 days. Rosa Salazar is, well, wow.

It's a good take on serious mental health issues and made me question a lot of things.

I cannot wait for the next season!!
