-It's important when watching a movie, or when absorbing any form of art that you think about what you are seeing. Art isn't just meant to look nice and add a little color to our daily grind. It's meant to examine the deeper truths of life, but all that is useless if you don't take the time to think about it.
-Movies should serve any combination of three functions: entertaining, inspiring greatness, or provoking thought.
-A movie that is really good will be enjoyable and impactful even if you've had the ending spoiled.
-Special effects can help a movie in looking cool or at least realistic. I respect what the people who create spfx and computer generated images do, but a movie's quality should never hinge on visual appeal. Jurassic Park, Independence Day, and even the Matrix or Lord of the Rings cannot be considered classics because of their visuals. If that were the case then every superhero movie or fighting robot movie would be considered timeless.
-People sometimes describe a film or a speech or a song or a quote as "moving", but this word is often misinterpreted. Moving doesn't just mean it hits home for you or has deep meaning; it means that it is going to impact your future beliefs and actions.
-I have no respect for movies in which people decide to just slap a terrible story onto something that they know will make tons of money regardless of its quality. Not all of the Marvel superhero movies that have come out in the past decade that much appeal to me, but I respect the people who make them because they give all of their movies respect as an art form and a story instead of just a way to make money.

What I like to also call "The Real Best Picture Award". These are the movies that we are still going to be talking about, referencing, studying, and showing to our kids for years to come.
