Beeba Boys (2015)
8/10
Worth a watch
16 October 2015
A solid and menacing performance by Randeep Hooda playing Jeet, and he looks good doing it. Beeba boys has genuine comedic moments that create an interesting juxtaposition with the dark business the characters are involved in; ie. A mafia boss that lives with his parents, complete with air hockey table in the basement. Deepa tries something new and doesn't glorify the violence which is a fine line when it comes to gangster movies. Some great cinematography and shot on location in Vancouver. Paul Gross was a welcome cameo appearance as was David Suzuki. The style the characters exhibit is really exceptional as well, hats off to the costume designers.

What a great surprise
2 March 2009
I saw this film at an independent movie night on a campus bar in Calgary, and I must say, it was one of the best movies I have seen this year! Everything in this film is great; great actors, great cinematography, great locations, great writing, great directing, great editing. I can't believe this didn't get picked up more mainstream! Cudos to every talented person involved in this film. A really wonderful story and an unlikely protagonist.

The lost in translation scene with the taxi driver was seriously one of the best scenes I have watched in a long time.

Really recommend checking this one out if you get the opportunity.

One of the worst films I have ever seen
23 February 2009
This was one of the worst films I have ever seen. You truly get a sense that this was written and filmed by high school students.

People being high isn't funny. Just because some guy is stoned on screen doesn't make the scene funny.

Maybe stoners that can relate to the idiocy and bland humor would find this film enjoyable.

James Franco and McBride were the best part of the film, with some great performances, sadly even those couldn't save this one.

I'm blown away how a film like this could get the budget it did, and the cast that signed on, it really amazes me that a cast like this would do such a bad film.

Stolen Horses (2008)

Wonderfully shot film
2 February 2009
A solid film. Stolen Horses is visually appealing, being shot in Alberta, Canada. Has a bit of the same feeling as "Brokeback Mountain" The film really captures the relationships between the boys and their struggle against losing their way of life.

Great performances by the entire cast, and great chemistry between cast members as well.

The story keeps you engaged, and the score wonderfully matches the tone of the film.

This being a short film, would actually play out nicely as a feature, there is a lot more story to be told here and the movie seems to only stretch the surface.

Definitely recommend catching this film if you are able.

Casey Affleck's best work to date
27 September 2007
Casey Affleck's has officially come into his own. Fantastic performance!

Brad Pitt's performance complex and stunning as usual. Brad does not shy away from the real roles and proves time and time again what a brilliant actor he is.

Roger Deakins shots are stunning, capturing the true beauty that lies within the Canadian rockies. The artistic shots through the old style glass is fantastic.

Score is very unorthodox yet amazingly effective.

The only downside to the film many say is the running time, but I admire that Andrew allowed for the performances of the actors to be the showcase. Many scenes with not a lot of background music, just the intense performances.

Cinematic History
16 November 2005
I applaud everyone who was involved in the making of this movie. It is most definitely going to ruffle some feathers, but was brilliantly done. Heath ledger's best performance I have ever seen.

This movie will stir up conflicting emotions and this will make many people uncomfortable. Heath and Jake's characters are about as manly as you can get, rugged cowboys, and it makes it hard for the viewer to accept what they are seeing.

Absolutely brilliant!

I had the privilege of going to the Premier and speaking with Ang, the writer, and the producers. This movie is not about making money, this movie is about being a catalyst for change. Heath went from this set directly to film Casanova. It will be interesting to see the two movies one right after the other. Gives you appreciation for Heath's ability.
