This episode was extremely brutal and well done . I think people are off put by the show for obvious reasons pertaining to its content. I think it shows beyond just the addicts struggling with the opiate crisis in America, and goes into the criminal side which involves dirty cops, murder, extortion, etc.. The actual drug dealers and suppliers are on the forefront of this series , and it goes into the darker side of the drug world. At first I wasn't to sure about Hightown , but the more I watched the more I got into it. It's almost done with the first season and I'm really hoping it can carry into a 2nd season as good as the first.
Athlete A (2020)Very good . At heart of gold a little more in depth.
26 June 2020
No matter what you watch about the subject you will be effected by it. The young women who finally came out as older women are true heroes and have got guts. I've watched a couple of different documentaries on this monster Larry Nasser and the horrible abuse and rape that countless women were subject to throughout his long career of working with these athletes. I will say that the HBO doc was a bit more in depth but nonetheless very powerful. This is a subject that is difficult to hear but very important for all to see. The women who came forward at the trial of this predator are true rock stars , and should be celebrated.
Against the Odds (2014– )Excellent first hand footage and narrative.
22 June 2020
This is a fantastic series by AHC to give the viewers a first hand look at the footage of these amazing feats of our US troops throughout histories most fierce battles. AAO has first hand accounts of the brave men and women who lived these horrific wars and lived to tell about them. Each episode brings in depth footage that is raw and uncut. Each episode is of a different battle going back to WW2 all the way to Iraqi freedom. This series is one of the best in showing the courageous and harrowing details of these brutal wars in which America was involved in. Must see for big military history fans because it gives the facts and lays it out to you the viewer to see first hand and draw your own views on what it is to be an American soldier in combat situations.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)Far fetched and racially motivated Spike Lee film
13 June 2020
This movie actually could have been much better, but because of its racially motivated theme against the "white man" and his white army this became boring and incredibly far fetched. It is very popular in our country right now to beat up on white America so Spike Lee doesn't disappoint in jumping on in the band wagon. It paints a picture that pretty much only black men died for their country's , and no white men were drafted and had unfortunate circumstances when it came to Vietnam war. I understand it's supposed to be a black power type film but that can be done without being so blatant towards the hatred for the white man. Other than these racial points the film as a whole seemed very lazy in the writing and acting. It's not an incredibly original story at all, and towards the end of this marathon movie that became way to long it fell flat on its face. I think that the action scenes were not very well done and again very unrealistic. It was supposed to be an adventure type film but didn't quite hit its mark. I am usually a big Spike Lee fan , but this was one of his worst.
Although it is entertaining, it's totally unbelievable
6 June 2020Warning: Spoilers
Now I do think this season has gotten better in the 2nd half But I cannot ignore the fact that what goes on in "Liberty HS" is just so far beyond reality that it's comical. HS kids and High schools in general are nothing like this at all. Sure some of the subject matter applies but the rioting and depth at which these "kids" go to make a point just doesn't happen . Things such as Tony winning a fight over a white supremacist and then making out with his BF in the ring just doesn't happen lol. Of all characters beside the obvious destruction of Clays character is Tony. Every step of the way this season has been just unreal. He's being harassed by school security and fighting for $ to have his parents smuggled to the US. The before mentioned kissing his BF in the ring and then Alex father stating that he's helping Tony by letting him go back into a riot for his best interest. Lol. WTF is going on with Zack? He going around with a baseball bat trashing the principles and Dean office and all that's happened is him getting in trouble for stealing a letter from his file. Again lol. Alex all of a sudden is super gay making out with any guy that will kiss him back. I'm waiting for the next character to come out at any minute at this point and say they are gay. Holes in the plot like Swiss Cheese. It is entertaining and I'm not saying it's the worst television I've seen but certainly the worst season so far and it's gotten to be so far from reality this season. It's always pushed the envelope but thus season is a bit much.
All over the place and off on so many levels. Review through halfway point.
6 June 2020Warning: Spoilers
First off the season is def worst one. For a show that prides itself on tackling mental health and suicide issues they have Clays diagnoses way off. It seems he's suffering from schizophrenia more than any type of anxiety disorder. The constant paranoia and auditory and regular hallucinations is so far from anxiety it's not even in the same realm. I just don't get what they are trying to do to clay . The whole Alex gay or not gay or confused is really silly as well. My favorite character from past season was Justin and even he is just more an annoyance than anything else. Ani still sucks all together and the rest of them are all in these forced and awkward relationships. Tony is being harassed by school security and worried about his family situation from last season, and putting together a semi pro fight to make money so he can have his family smuggled from Mexico to US.? Lol, I mean cmon. Why is Alex father constantly at the school and targeting students on his own time to flip on each other?? Just a convoluted mess but I'll stick with it for hope that something coherent comes together, but boy what a mess halfway through.
And the Emmy for best actor goes to ....
25 May 2020
I've always been a fan of Mark Ruffalo , but this particular role as Thomas and Dominik is his best yet. I pretty much think think that without him this story is good enough to watch but not must see. With his acting this show is absolutely must see. It is painful to watch at times because of the subject matter and because of a bond between brothers, especially twins. This episode had even me in tears when Thomas was explaining to Dominick about how he's treated in the facility. If some other actor/actress can bring themselves in a role up to this level I would love to see it, but I think even this early that you can safely say that at the very least he is nominated. It's an interesting storyline but with Ruffalo it's borderline riveting.
The fans are the best part of the show.
13 April 2020
I must say as an American who loves his sports teams I understand the highs and lows of being a die hard sports fan for teams that have really struggled at times. I now understand how passionate the Brits are for their semi-pro soccer teams. To these people this is the top league around and no other team matters. It's extremely entertaining to watch these fans act during really bad times with their team. I almost felt bad for them because they were literally in tears and heart broken, but I really don't think these fans should show up at their headquarters cursing at the players and calling the coach a "prick" just because he's saddled with a bunch of mediocre talent and a failing franchise. It's kind of pathetic to see grownups acting like children because they lost a soccer match. It is extremely entertaining though lol.I
Hunters (2020– )Very good show and great cast.
21 February 2020
I just watched 3 episodes, but from what I've seen it's going to be an Amazon Prime Gem. Cast is excellent, and storyline is very engaging being set in the 70s during a time when Nazi defectors were settling in to the fabrics of society in the US. Has that inglorious Bastards feel and naturally being the same type of plot. Definitely a must watch.!!
Any One of Us (2019)Uplifting, Inspiring , Amazing !!!
30 October 2019
In short this documentary was amazing. The struggles and suffering that these men and women endure daily from having spinal cord injuries is heart breaking , but at the same time inspiring. This documentary travels various people, from athletes to regular people on their journeys of trying everything and anything to try and get their range of motion and feeling back into their extremities. Eventually they except that their lives will be changed forever, but they do not give up. They push on to start wheelchair dancing companies or invent other things that will not only help them regain some normalcy in life but others in the same position. There are so many different treatments to help people with spinal cord injuries but no real cure which makes this documentary particularly frustrating while watching. Basically what I have learned is that everyone's body recovers differently and that each injury has a different degree of severity . In time these amazing people get better physically and emotionally. I was blown away at how brave these people are, and truly inspired by their incredible stories. Another great documentary from HBO Sports, and one I will not soon forget. Must see for all people !!!
American Factory (2019)Well done but misleading about the American worker
25 August 2019
They show Americans as lazy and inefficient, and Chinese as some master race when it comes to work efficiency and general life standards. I will agree that Americans are not all company first and all work and no play. When it comes to bottom line and making a factory work I'll bet China would run circles around the US. What they don't get into is how much the Chinese workers are paid and except for that one scene of the Chinese workers crawling around in glass that they work in very unsafe conditions. The average Chinese worker does not cherish family over company or they would go see their families for more than 2 times a year or when the company allows them. They work in a communist ideology which is of course very different then ours in the USA. We as Americans want to make money and live nice lifestyles and are not content with just getting by or receiving a bone from the "Chairman's" plate. These Americans are making 12.50$ an hour and you want them to work like a military unit ? I mean C'mon, when you work minimum wage you are usually desperate for whatever you can get and while you may be grateful to have it , one shouldn't be expected to pray at the billionaire owners feet. Yes the cultural differences are as far as the Grand Canyon apart, and when it comes to work I would bet that the Chinese worker will out work the American everyday of the week, but our lives are very different and our ideology. That doesn't mean American workers are all fat and lazy and can't dress well (although the part in China didn't do us any justice) but look at the context in which the workers were being represented in this case and be fair. They are minimum wage workers who before the economic recession of 2008 were making close to 50K a year and had middle class lives. Of course they are not thrilled to go to work everyday in these circumstances. Unionization is what built America, and protects the American worker from becoming robots like the Chinese worker, and something that keeps us from communist ideology and ways of living. There's nothing wrong with it an in fact you see the chairman complain about unionizing because he wants to remain a Billionaire and not pay fair wages like he does in China. In final thought I'll say this to Mr. Chairman. Don't come to America and build a factory just to run it in the Chinese way and think that people are going to bow to you because you pay them 12$ an hour . Let them unionize and pay them fairly and you will see a huge spike in your bottom line. It's the American way.
Overall 8 for season. Could have been much better.
17 August 2019
It started out like a house on fire. Wasting no time jumping into action , and this lasted the first few episodes. They were still hitting the road doing what makes the show so good in the first place and that is interviewing the psychopaths. With new cases popping up as you would guess, but somewhere it got bogged down in the 5th episode and it was all about the Atlanta child killer, and that's it. The acting was excellent but I don't know why they stopped after a very brief but well done interview with Manson. Why did they just decide to only work the 1 case ? They also let the show get slowed down by Wendy and her hesitation to come out of the closet and blah blah blah !!! They really should have kept up with the interviews and studying of different serial killers. Do t get me wrong the season was a success in my eyes and I enjoyed it nevertheless, but it could have been great. A lot of suspense at times and the twist with Tensch adopted son Brian brought another eerie factor to the show.
Just got to bizarre for me
5 August 2019
Talk about weird. This show over the past few weeks got more odd. The dream like flashback scenes intertwined with reality and the plot got very muddled to where I was just tuned out. The whole story went from interesting to over the top and unrealistic to say the least. The camera work was well done, but just kind of went by the wayside because of the bizarre nature of where the show went. I don't know. I see people rating these episodes extremely highly, but I cannot for the life of me see why. I didn't by any means hate the show, but thought it got to far into the strange and fell off to where the first 4-5 episodes were going.
Blame everyone but themselves
2 August 2019
Yet another great episode of Last Chance U. I have to shake my head at these athletes though. They are so frustrating to watch with all that talent and potential wasted by horrible attitudes and no accountability for their actions. I'm not a big fan of this coach and I think that he gives himself way to much credit. He got Netflix and this town to throw a ton of money at a dying program as well as change the rules of recruiting out of state to stack his teams full of the best JUCO talent available. Of course they are going to be really good !! These kids are all trying to get back to D1 talent and Netflix gives them the best exposure to scouts from big schools. The real test of his coaching will be when the cameras are gone and these clowns stop going to Liberty Kansas . Now I believe that the QB is really soft and puts on a huge facade for the cameras. He's a fish out of water being a kid from a more affluent part of California whose parents are behind him as well as extra coaching mentors. The reality is he just isn't that good when it comes to a bigger talent pool outside of all his HS teams. You can tell he is intelligent (unlike 95% of the team) and that he is just super lazy and thinks he's better than everyone. These other players just are downright delinquents. They are all big babies who think they are so much better than they really are. A couple have the talent but no drive and seem to be at a grade school level when it comes to smarts. Some may legitimately have learning problems, but are mostly just super lazy and walk around and act like thugs . They have no respect for what all these coaches and teachers are doing for them because they think they are going to be rich and in the NFL. Talk about delusional !! They can't even get on a D1 roster or start at one if they actually get there. I don't know who told them that they are NFL caliber but it's obvious people have lied to them their whole life. They don't understand they need an education because they have no shot at making the pros. Anyway, it makes for great TV and each episode gets into the inner workings of these programs and athletes lives unlike a lot of other shows before them. Cudos to Netflix on this show.
Lmao at these players
28 July 2019
This is just great t.v. These players talk so much smack and they are basically excellent high school caliber players and mediocre college level talent. Not very bright at all to be nice. The one kid says quote " I can't be stopped, nobody can't stop me" and in the next sentence that he "stays humble". Lmfao, you need to first know the definition of the word humble before you start stating that you are. It's unbelievable, these players rob from their other dorm mates and destroy the property, but they are good kids. They live in a fantasy world. One player says he has 10 scholarships. If you have 10 D1 offers then why are you still playing on an abysmal junior college team ? All hype and no action. Still very entertaining though. I can't say that it's bad because it certainly is not, but talk about a bunch of BS talkers from the coaching all the way down.
Total circus with no accountability
27 July 2019
First off the athletes are talking about being NFL players when none of them have the mind set or drive to be professionals. They are loosely coached, and play very mediocre talent in their divisions. They fight each other and their coaches. After games they lose they fight each other and the other teams and cannot take loss which is all fundamental and basic parts of being an athlete in general. I get it's just junior college, but it's no excuse and if they want to go play with the big boys at real universities then they just need to look at those athletes and how they carry themselves on and off the field. The staff is a whole other disaster. They let the one guy go back into a game in which he was knocked out cold. With all the head injury science that is at the forefront of football I don't know how that's possible. You have what seems to be an alcoholic head coach who curses way to much for effect and would rather be excepted by his black athletes as one of them than he does actually coaching proper football and how to be real men. I know he was praised for having a winning season and bringing this program out of the shadows but these "athletes" are turning the school and it's program into a "hood" atmosphere. It sure does make for great shock value and good television though.
A disappointing episode to say the least
11 July 2019
After the first 2 episodes I thought this season was really picking up steam, but then episode 3 came. A lot of bark but no bite. Sides are being chosen and threats made, but that's really it. It's kind of like the same old thing with the Dutton's each episode. Kelly Riley is actually quite annoying. I get her character is supposed to be revolting, but something about her that makes me lose interest each scene she is in and I actually like her in everything else she does. Anyway, I'll take it as a set up episode of what's to come because I really enjoy the show and most of the characters. I think next episode will come together nicely.
Us (II) (2019)My Lord this was bad !!!
18 June 2019
Ot much to say, but this film was so overhyped it's unbelievable. I finally just rented US OnDemand contrary to some really bad user reviews. The "pro" reviewers gushed over it so I thought maybe it will be good. I went into it as somebody who thought "Get Out" was bad and I was disappointed at US to say the least. It wasn't scary in the least, and so weird in a bad way. It was like a bad twilight zone episode, only 2 long excruciating hours worth of one. I don't get the great reviews at all from the critics. Not only did they not pan it but they gushed over how good it was. Were they watching the same film I did ?? I just would love to hear somebody challenge me and try to tell me that this was actually a good movie worthy of any type of praise because I just don't know anyone who thought it was even halfway decent. What a waste of $5.99
The Hate U Give (2018)We get it. All white people are evil.
16 June 2019
Movies like this send the wrong message. They crack jokes on behalf of white teenagers and that all law enforcement is evil and out to kill all black people. I understand that police aren't all out for the right reasons , and racism is alive and well in the US, but sometimes people are out to give the right message and deliver it in the wrong way. If this film was flipped around and it was white people joking on black people and stating that they are all bad then people would be going crazy. Not all white people are the way they portray them in this movie , and if you think so then you are just sheltered and have not been out in the world. Stupid movie that could have been much better.
Always Be My Maybe (2019)If Crazy, Rich Asians had a baby
31 May 2019
Actually a fairly good RomCom. The actors were very good and more important funny. It wasn't anything super original as most of these RomComs follow the same formula, but it wasn't forced or overly cheesy. The cameo by Keanu Reeves was very funny as well. I guess after the success of Crazy Rich Asians there is a little corner in Hollywood for Asian starring cast films. Not bad at all.!
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch (2019 TV Movie)Unfortunately they don't explain the disaster that was the final season !!
27 May 2019
It's always interesting to watch how they put together a production as big as GOT together behind the scenes. It is something that fascinates me as a huge fan of the show, but also cinema in general. There is some cool behind the scenes with the actors as well as make up and design people. Unfortunately there is nothing explaining the lack of effort that the writers put forth in the final season. The fact that they decided to not make a final 2 seasons because they were bored or thought other jobs were more important is such a shame. By being lazy they ruined what could have went down as the best show ever to still being one of the greats, but not too 3-5 IMHO. The fact that even the final episode was a bust makes things even worse because with a great finale it could have saved a mediocre season. Now I get that this special is not going to go into things like the shoddy writing it creates a platform for us as fans to still vent as to how badly they let us all down as fans. I hope that one day we can get a real explanation. As for the special it was super interesting and you gotta give the people who were behind the scenes putting these sets together and dressing and doing the actors hair and make up a ton of props. They did an amazing job week in and week out, and they were awarded properly for the spectacular jobs they did.
Now you look like the minister of coal !!
21 May 2019
A review from someone who actually viewed the episode first. Another great episode . The facts about the nuclear disaster are well known, and the aftermath is far worse than imagined. The people still do not know how badly the radiation will effect them, but the longer time passes the more they are seeing just how sick this is making people. The government decides to call on their comrades in the coal mining industry to help stop the reactor from leaking radioactive waste into the water table that will poison it pretty much forever around the whole country. Plans are in action to cool the reactor before it totally melts and kills the miners whom are pretty much doomed in the foreseeable future anyway. This is a spectacular mini series , and yet another award worthy one from HBO. Acting is incredible and the writing is great. Very informative and fact based.
After watching again I agree, it stunk
20 May 2019
After writing a fairly decent review I must go back on what I originally thought. I let myself brush aside my love for the show and not bashing it to the people that said the show was ruined. I don't believe it ruined the previous seasons or how great the show really was as a whole. The fans deserved way better!! It does seem that everything they built up was destroyed, but it's just not true. I would just like to forget that is how they ended it and go with the ending for episode 5 as the ending of the show. I honestly think that would have been better. It's a shame they just didn't give us 1 more season so that they could have drawn out a better situation as to end the show on. It's very unfortunate that this was what we got after all that went into every character and every plot through the shows life. It's always a huge black eye to a show when your finale stinks, and it ruins its place all time as best show ever. It loses a few notches in my book just based on the boring uninteresting finale that the writers and HBO decided to throw together and give us loyal fans. What a shame.!!
Ended where it started !
20 May 2019
The finale was most likely not what the majority of people wanted, but it is done and all over. I think everyone will have their own opinions as to what was wrong (or great) about how the writers decided to end the series , but I thought it was ok. I think that the show was just so big and characters were so vast and likeable that they just had to go with something that made sense and hope for the best. I think most of us foresaw how Danerys would meet her demise, but not how it all necessarily was going to go from that point. Bottom line is they chose to go with more of a positive ending and preserve Westeros. They all came together for common good. Loved the show and can't really complain about the end. It was just ok finale.
Good finale ! Gonna miss GOT.
20 May 2019Warning: Spoilers
Stark did the right thing. Danerys lost her mind. He can fly the dragon. Fine enough finale of what has just been a phenomenal and groundbreaking show. Loved every minute, and plan on binge watching all the seasons in the future much like my other favorites every few years. Can't make everyone happy and those who rate these final episodes with 1s are just baby's . The show was awesome. Every episode incredibly fun to watch.
