Blue Moses (1962)

Brakhage does Welles

Although this feels instinctively like a narrative film, I think Blue Moses rewards a less literal viewing. The experimentation with sound is youthful and Angeresque, even quotable at times - a wildy more insightful approach than his later incorporation of minimal music, in my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jodorowsky came across this short before making The Holy Mountain.

A short revisionist anthology of experimental cinema. Worth a watch if you're not epileptic.

Short and interesting enough

I feel this short gets too much of a bad wrap. True, it is dizzying to say the least, altough no more than any Brakhage imo. It is not too long, and the faces and voices rapidly passing through greys and oranges create some sense of disturbing, Apocalypse Now-esque ambiance.
