First Blood (1982)
The last five minuits elevate this film to something great
Mild spoilers ahead. The last 5 mins change the whole movie from a fun throwaway action flick to a story about a man who had to turn to something cruel in order to endure a war and commit atrocities, and how he cannot just move on from that after the war was over. I do not know if the writer shares the opinions of Rambo about the protesters but it makes sense for the character to have those.
That's all I wanted to say about this movie but this review needs 188 more characters to be posted so I will write the pokemon theme song now until I hit them: I wanna be the very best, like no one ever wa.
Devs (2020)
An amazing series (with some hiccups) !
It is so rare that a piece of media has actually something to say instead of just looking flashy, at least these days. This has something to say, it makes you think about conciousness, reality, free will, etc. The visuals are beautifull and the story is intruiging and rarely predictable. The only thing that stops it from being great is the dialogues. I don't know if it is the fault of the actors or the diracteros, or something else entirely, but that is the only issue here and unfortunately it is a huge one. Still I recomend you see it! It expands your mind and is beatiful to the eyes and the ears, I hope it is enough for most people.
I Am Mother (2019)
Criminally underrated !
Everything here is perfect. The story, the philosophy behind everything, the directing, the acting and the voice acting. It does a lot with very little, an indie film makers dream. It is an amazing movie, but more than anything it is a philosophy disguised as a piece of art. It tackles so many themes and it does it elegantly, nothing in this movie is excessive. It doesn't take a holywood feelgood stance about human nature, it doesn't end with a message about the beauty of the human spirit that the cold robots can't understand, or something like that. It asks the very hard question: Is the only hope for humanity a hard-reset, to let a generation grow without the corrupting influence of its predecessors?
I love everything about this movie and I hope you will too, and most of all I hope this love reaches the creators because they deserve it!
Maniac (2018)
Bold, beautiful and utterly unique! I loved it.
Watch it, it is so amazingly fresh and original, every bit of it reeks with the love that was put into it! The performances, the cinematograpy, the story, the allegories and the world itself are all wonderfull! Not wanting to turn down any and alll negative critiques on this, just have in mid that many people get dissapointed when they don't get what they expect, making the strange always a bit lower in rating than it should.
