The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Wow, just, Wow. When watching the Handmaid's Tale I feel like I am being scarred. I keep asking myself why do I keep watching this? It's awful, everything that this show is showing me is terrible. BUT, I can't stop watching because the acting, directing, filming, writing, EVERYTHING is Perfection. I do not have one technical complaint about this series. The story is so intriguing that it sucks you down into this hole that won't let you go until you've seen it all. The world of Gilead is so messed up, but the most terrifying part is that stuff like this happening in the world today in other countries. Woman are severely opposed in some countries in the world. And I think this series really hits home with showing how messed things can get when men twist their own truths and do as they will. I can't wait to see season 5 and I truly hope this series ends with June burning Gilead to the ground.
I have always loved Kate Beckinsale as an actress, she was perfection in Underworld and Pearl Harbor, but lately her movies have been terrible. I know she has the ability to be a great actress, but just because you put a great actress in a film, it does not make a great film. It takes many elements to make a film great and "Jolt" was severely lacking.
I know they were going for "funny" in this movie, but every joke fell terribly short and made me role my eyes in annoyance. It felt like they were trying to make it serious, with a mix of romance and then funny too, but it didn't come off right. Everything was rushed from one scene to the next with very little "get to know you" moments in the movie. The concept of the film was great, but it was written and delivered very poorly. I knew how the film was going to end from the start of the movie because they made everything extremely cliche giving away all mystery. This film would have been much better if it had left behind the goofiness and went to a very serious context. There was also next to no chemistry between the actors, it felt like they were saying lines, but there was no heart behind the lines.
A cheep movie gives you a cheep movie. Watch with no expectations.
The Perfection (2018)
Not What I Expected
I was not prepared for this movie at all! Talk about curve balls! Yes there's some classic music aspect to the movie and a touch of romance, but its mixed in with some seriously gruesome stuff and very dark content. There were some serious cringe worthy moments in the film that was just down right gross, that I feel are kinda scaring - some things can not be unseen. With that said, I loved the lead cast and the mystery in the movie is fantastic, you never know what to expect from one scene to the next. I feel like this movie tried throw in five different genres at once and this was what you ended up with. If you're looking for something very different, with a splash of horror, romance and some disturbing scenes then this is the movie for you. Personally I feel like I just damaged some brain cells watching this film.
Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993)
They took a downgrade compared to the first film. The original had its dumb jokes, but it also felt serious and down to earth at the same time. It was believable. This one took it up a level to just 100% stupid and over the top non-believable. There are some moments that are funny, but I felt that they took the film too far to make it into a stupid parody with really dumb jokes. The acting was good and I was really happy that they kept the original cast.
Hot Shots! (1991)
Not bad for a parody. I've seen some really bad ones and yes, this one has its cringe worthy moments too, but it also has some genuinely funny ones. I liked how some of the jokes were simple and subtle. Others were a little over the top, but it still blended together nicely. The overall storyline was really dumb, but when you're mocking a movie such as top gun, I guess you have to go to extremes to do so. I think it all depends on your taste if you'll like it. It's a funny mockery of a great film. Stupid, and yet funny. Well acted and filmed pretty good.
Sex and Aliens
I feel like the main ingredient to this film is sex and aliens. Th main theme is about a hot girl wanting to breed to make babies and reproduce. It does have its perks. The movie is well put together with good filming and acting. The story is intriguing enough to keep you entertained. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a film. It's defiantly not "Aliens", but it's still entertaining.
Jersey Girl (2004)
When Life Doesn't go According to plan
Down to earth, cute and funny. I enjoyed the movie about a single father trying to raise his daughter. It was cute and had its funny moments. I like the subtle love story as the film main focus is the daughter father relationship. The film also holds depth and seriousness as it speaks about the struggles of life. Very relatable.
Why make a mother remake of this film? The first one was perfect. I feel like if you are going to remake the movie, then it should have been done with more creativity. Instead of following the first film extremely close, the movie should have showed more about Carries past, how her mom became the way she was and more of Carries childhood and the struggles. The first film was very cut and dry with what it showed, but I find ever remake does the exact same thing. The biggest difference with this film compared to the others, is that they implemented more of Carries power and made her more aware of it.
Carrie (2013), as a stand alone movie with no comparison. I loved the cast, it was a nice mix of known actresses. The filming was great. And the story was smooth, but I felt there was almost too big of a jump with carries development. She went from beyond shy (talk to no one), to suddenly the most confident and beautiful girl in the school in about the span of one week. She was the most sweetest girl, too suddenly a dark creature that loved hurting people. I felt there wasn't enough in the movie, it was too short and ended quickly. It needed a little more to it to make it something more impressive.
Loving Annabelle (2006)
Flawed, but Good
Well, when it comes to lesbian films you cant be too picky with how few there are out there. In all honesty the movie is very simple, with not much of a story line, no deep character depth or really much of anything outside of the main theme of the love story. I wish they would have dived more into the main characters lives and story. But the movie did a great job with the slow sexual build. The only thing I really felt was lacking, is the fact that there is more to a relationship then sex, but they seem to exclude that. There wasn't much "getting to know you" conversations. It was mostly about past lovers and wanting to kiss each other but trying not to. But overall the cast was great, even the roommates, everyone flowed nicely together. The love story was pleasant and felt natural. Even with all of its flaws, it was still an enjoyable film. I just wish it would have had a smoother ending, it felt too abrupt and not satisfying.
Uncanny, but suprisingly good
I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw the film. I thought I would dislike it. With the poor filming and over the top sexual comedy. But as I watched it I soon became intrigued. The thought that this man actually drove around America filming this movie. Knowing the reactions of everyone but the two main cast members were real. Certain scenes such as the train scene was filmed with hidden camera's as Borat interacted with the people on the train. Or the Rodeo where the people were probably eager to beat him to death after what he said. There were so many times where I felt so bad for the guy and was cringing knowing it was not going to go well. I understand that the main point was to show how wild a certain culture can be compared to our "modern" one. The mockery was great creating a ton of laughing moments. But i couldn't help but feel bad for the poor actor with how everyone was treating him. It was a bitter sweet film that surprised me. Uncanny, but a good movie.
Because I Said So (2007)
Cliche but still fun
It's not a great film in the sense that it doesn't have an original plot and the lines are very cheesy and its off beat most of the time. BUT it's still a fun comedy to waste time on. You don't have to think too hard on this film.
I liked the cast, lots of familiar faces. And, the sisters were great and funny together with wonderful chemistry. It's not Diane Keatons best performance. But I guess she did the best with the terrible part she was given. The cliche scene's of the porn on the computer that won't shut off or "What does it feel like to have an orgasim?" So cringe worth! And come on, what's the message being said? I'm an unhappy lady because I've never had enjoyable sex in my life? Sex is the cherry on top, its not the cake. But if you like Diane Keaton then it just adds to the movie and makes it watch worthy.
The romance in the movie is fun, especially with Mandy Moore and Gabriel Macht. They had great chemistry and it was nice to see a relationship where a person can be every aspect of who they are and still be accepted and loved. The comedy might have been cliche but it was still fun. And it was really nice to see a different side of Stephen Collins compared to his long role of Reverend Camden from 7th Heaven. Overall not a high budget film with amazing standards, but something with a small slice of heart, a variety of well known actors and an enjoyable overall message that has a dash of comedy thrown in.
The Cable Guy (1996)
I'm not the biggest fan of Jim Carry, don't get me wrong I love "Mask" and "Fun with Dick and Jane", but this film surprised me. Jim Carry is very different in this film, he is not goofy or over the top, instead he is an absolute nut job. He has serious boundary issues as he stalks his "friends" and when he doesn't get his way he will go to great lengths to make your life miserable. I really enjoyed this dark film as Jim Carry did a great job acting outside of his normal boundaries.
Look Who's Talking Now (1993)
I really like the first film, it was hilarious, cute and relatable. The second wasn't as good, but it still had charm. Look Who's Talking Now was a complete flop. Listening to the dogs talk instead of the babies completely ruined it. It might have been a little bit interesting, but they picked the wrong voices for the dogs and I didn't find the dialogue very funny. It was nice that they had the original cast, but the story in the film was less interesting compared to the others. It wasn't fun seeing John Travolta become serious instead of his goofy self. The kids and Mollie seemed to be an after thought in the film. The main focus was on the dogs which wasn't very interesting and it was on James with his new job and boss. The film lacks in its humour leaving it kinda boring as the story isn't very interesting.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006)
I was hoping this was going to be a great comedy, it had so much potential, but instead I was greeted with a very disappointing movie. The film felt all wrong with Luke Wilson as the lead man, he didn't fit the role well of a man just looking for a one night fling, but got stuck with a crazy girlfriend. He's too passive aggressive for that, they should have had a stronger actor to take the lead role. The chemistry felt all wrong between the lead actors on top of it. Uma Thurman is a good actress, but this was a bad role for her. She needed to either be sexy or hardcore. The nerdy, but beautiful and yet crazy girl act did not come off right. The film seemed to fall short of every genre. It wasn't a serious film, it wasn't a superhero film, it wasn't a comedy or a romance. It felt like they tried to mix all those things together, but fell short in every aspect leaving you with a movie that felt awkward and uninteresting. The film could have easily been a great comedy but it missed the mark badly. Instead of copying Superman's powers they should have used unique abilities. They even used the same disguise, why? I feel like if "G Girl" was crazy then they should have committed more to that, instead of making her seem normal in the publics eyes and somewhat clingy in her relationship. It should have been more of an extreme to bring humour to it.
I loved the cast in the film, feat mix of actors/actress and the relationship felt natural. It was even better that they had famous actors from Star Wars and Star Trek with in the film. It was a fun movie that picked on the nerdy subject of Star Wars. I loved the costumes, the dialogue and the little bits and pieces throughout the movie that makes it a fun ride. It was cool that they put in the Star Trek war between Star Wars fans and Star Trek fans. Felt like a bit of a parody, but was much better than the average low budget parody. It's cool to see the life of a fan, after all, its very relatable and down to earth.
Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005)
Really not that bad
I loved the first movie a lot. This one was not as good as the first, but it was still likeable. It's hard to find a good family comedy film that's clean and can make you laugh. Cheaper by the Dozen is one of those rare films. Perhaps the plot is simple and part two is less about the kids and more about the father. But I like the values in the movie along side the comedy. It has its funny moments and I love that its one of those films you don't have to think too hard, you can just sit back and waste sometime on it. The cast is excellent as always and even better, its the original cast from the previous film. It's nice to see Tom Welling and Hilary Duff once more. I wish they would make more films like this one. Large family, lots of comedy and decent values.
The Stepford Wives (2004)
Weird but still enjoyable
I have not seen the original film nor the book, therefore I have nothing to compare the movie to. I had no idea what to expect, but I liked what I found.
There was no disappointment with the cast, the actors made the movie flow nicely. The movie was a bit fast paced, not letting you get too attached to the characters. There wasn't anything deep or scary about it. I liked the fact that the film came off light and comical. My favorite thing about the entire movie is how quirky it was while brushing it off with comedy. It was a very unusual story, but I think that's what makes it so interesting. The only thing I really did not enjoy about the movie is how the main message seemed to be "Woman are superior to men". To me that is just being sexiest against men, what happened to equality and gender does not matter? Even though the film had the theme of "woman rule" it was still funny and entertaining to watch.
Fire on the Amazon (1993)
Slow, boring and almost pointless
I figured "its a Sandra movie, it can't be that bad". Ya, it was that bad. First of all Sandra Bullock is the supporting actress who barely has a role in the movie. Instead the film follows Craig Sheffer, a photographer journalist trying to find the truth. The filming is low budget causing a fuzzy, shakey camera look. The story is very slow and very boring. I thought the film would have been more about showing the beauty of the Amazon and how the fires are destroying it. Instead it was more about the political factor of who was behind what was going on in the Amazon. Trying to solve one murder case. The love story is extremely random and above all, who are these characters and what are their stories? Very little is explained about the characters in the movie, instead it all "run for your lives, people are trying to kill us". The one thing you will see in this movie, is a short graphic nude/sex scene with Sandra Bullock. Not a film I would ever want to view again.
Forces of Nature (1999)
Flawed, but entertaining
The biggest downfall to the film was the low budget camera that was used to film this movie. The camera has a shake to it, while it's fuzzy and not very clear. it made the movie feel cheap.
I enjoyed Ben Affleck and Sandra bullock, they make the film worth watching. There are very few movies that have Sandra Bullock acting completely care free and wild, its nice to see that part of her acting range. The script wasn't very good, but the actors did the best with what they had.
The movie is full of cheesy lines and there is nothing too deep in the film. Its more so about one free spirit (Sandra) helping a practical man (Ben) find his wild side and figure out what he wants in life. Yes the movie could have been better and it definitely has its flaws, but if you enjoy Ben Afflict and Sandra Bullock then I'd give it a go.
I knew right from the opening scene that I most likely would not like the movie. I do not like it when they give away big plot points from the beginning. The film did have some good parts to it that kept you interested with some minor twists and turns. But overall the plot is extremely simple and the beginning is very slow. I am not a big fan of how the movie was filmed, it had a lower budget feel to it as well.
It's a mediocre movie, nothing that really stands out, the good parts keep it from being beyond boring. But its not super terrible either. Something to waste time on. The main reason to watch the movie if you are a fan of the cast, Jessica Alba, Hayden Christensen and Terrance Howard, then give it a go!
Meet the Spartans (2008)
Depends on your taste
I've been reading all of the reviews and they are hilarious as everyone seems to use extreme sarcasm to describe how much they hate the film. All the reviews are true, the movie seems to be written by two year olds that think farts are funny. Its extra shallow, repetitive and not that funny. BUT everyone has their own taste when it comes to film and someone might be afraid to admit it if they like this film because most people do not. Personally I don't think this is the worst movie I've seen. I love watching really dumb funny films because there is nothing serious in them. No thinking, no heartfelt moments, no emotions, instead it's just an easy going film to waist time on that might make you laugh here and there, but more then anything it makes you role your eyes at the movie.
Little Black Book (2004)
You will either like it or you won't. I find most mediocre films are one or the other for most people. Personally I find the movie wasn't great, but it wasn't the worst I've seen. It's one of those movies you watch one day to waist time and you don't really think about it again.
I love Brittney Murphy, but the role she played did not feel right. She tends to do comedy with characters that have some depth. In "Little Black Book" Her character had very little depth, instead she was extremely shallow. The movie tries to be fun and funny in places, but doesn't quite succeed. Then it tries to go deep in other places and fails again. From the beginning of the movie it gives away the general idea of the entire film. It's one of those situations where the writer has clued you in on what's going to happen, but the character herself has no idea. Which takes out all the mystery. There were other scenes in the movie I found very cringe worthy, that makes you shake your head and say "why?"
The idea of the film is original. It's cool that you get to see behind the curtain of a reality tv show. The overall cast is well chosen. And the filming is good, no low budget shakey camera. But the lines and in-between stuff is very cliche that lacks in heart, depth and/or comedy. It felt like the movie needed to pick a genre and stick with it.
American Pie 2 (2001)
Downgraded from the first film. But still fun.
The film felt lacking. Don't get me wrong it was still good, but no where as good as the first film. I loved that they had all the original actors. But the lines and plot felt choppy. The jokes were still good and there were great porn scenes. I just wish the film had a little more to it. The first movie had purpose, the classic scenarios of some guys trying to lose their virginity. But this film felt more like it was only about sex and jokes with less heart to it.
American Reunion (2012)
American Pie is back and it still has grit!
Normally sequels and such are terrible! The more they make the worst it gets. BUT, with American pie this case is not so. I loved this movie! It wasn't as good as the first, but it was better then movie two and three. It was great having the entire cast come back for this film, I loved seeing all the familiar faces from the fist film with all their quirky personalities. The movie felt smooth and natural as the cast went on one last adventure for the Reunion. The jokes were amazing! Especially with Jim's Dad. They really used a new element of funny for this character which was amazing. The film did a great job with upping the sexual elements, bringing a wild ride of humour with it. It was nice that they brought out all the different kinds of midlife crisis that people have, it can make a person relate to the situations which brings the movie more to a down to earth, place. Overall American Reunion was relatable, fun, jammed packed with humour and lots of R rated sexual moments. I really hope they make another movie.
American Wedding (2003)
The American Pie is back in action!
I loved the original American pie, when I watched the second movie I was very disappointed. It was still fun, but not as smooth as the first. I wasn't sure what to expect when watching American Wedding, but was quickly surprised with how good the movie was. I loved the jokes, it was great seeing the original cast. The movie had smooth lines and a fun element to it. The only thing I felt was lacking in the film was the fact there was less sex in it and it was missing Michelle's wild side. The movie was a little tame for an American Pie movie, but it made up for it in all other area's. the movie was fun, funny, heartfelt and I loved every moment. The cherry on top was seeing Stifler's soft side.
