The Boys (2019)
Found this series by chance after getting through Umbrella Academy & Doom Patrol which are both magnificently dark and ultra weird.
The Guys is brilliant. The characters are well acted. Fantastic dark humour along with a wicked script.
Really worth the watch. Bring on season 2 (and beyond)!
The Old Guard (2020)
Perfect 10...to Charlize
Charlize is brilliant as usual and keeps the end product together. The new entrant actress is way below standard.
Script is inconsistent and itt and miss.
An origins story would have been far better than this modern take of "Highlander".
Spies in Disguise (2019)
Every cliche in the book. Smith is more annoying than usual with just his voice. Can't fault the animation. The rest though is pure kiddy folder.
Somewhere Between (2017)
As few to many episodes
Not bad, overall. Engagingly entertaining. Could have wrapped up the series with fewer episodes. The acting wasn't the worst considering this is not a big budget series.
Get past the first episode and take it from there.
American History X (1998)
90s at its best!
On a "rewatch" binge. After watching Pulp Fiction and reviewers suggesting That's it,PF, was the best movies of the 90s there was no choice but to see if that rang true.
Off the bat was American X. which is far better than PF in all aspects. A superior story that isn't perfect yet has the power to bring thorough its simple message.
Great script. Brilliant lead performances. Well paced and strung together movie. A great start to re-watching movies gone past.
What's next in the 90s lineup - original Lion King, Forrest Gump, Silence of the Lambs, Matrix, 6th Sense, Toy Story, Shawshank Redemption, Ground Hog Day, Dumb & Dumber, Train Spotting, Point Break, Iron Giant, Heat, Clerks...let's just say, thankfully, they're isn't one movie that defines the 90s!
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Oscar worthy script
Definitely well written; in parts. Acting is what is to be expected from a top notch cast. Dragged out scenes to hit a 2 1/2 hour mark without much really happening to fill in the gaps. Felt way longer this second watch and sadly very average
Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Firstly, Stallone is in better shape, physically and mentally, than men half his age.
Last Blood might see Rambo crossover to the SAW series as Jigsaw; goodness knows some of the traps that were setup would fit in without any issues.
80's action at it's best!
QT is usually hit and miss. If good ol' celluloid cinema of years gone by is your scene then there's a great chance you'll get along with this. If not; don't bother.
5/10 until the Ending
What more is there to say. Definitely a movie with Peele appeal rather than an enjoyable movie.
The ending turned out to be the worst kind. So predictable. One can't believe that the end started from the beginning. Arghhhh!
There are really good parts balanced out with shockingly lame scenes.
Between Worlds (2018)
It really is terrible
There is nothing to add to the comments that hasn't been said. Just don't do it!
Hellboy 2.0 ^v^
Finally, another adult based comic adaptation almost on par with Deadpool. Not perfect but a good first iteration of a "darker" universe; much like the comic book. Plenty action and "bro talk". The biggest mistake will be trying to compare Bellboy 2.0 to the 15 year old movie version. Times have changed. A lot! Get with it and give this a go. Ps. Even the 2004 film only managed a 6.9 rating proving no matter the direction there are a fair number of libtards that don't actually know what they want.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
7. Not 10
A well made first season. Effects, cast and characters are all top notch. Again the need to stretch out a series to the max is where the academy fell short (no pun intended. 7 episodes would have been the sweet spot.
Castle Rock (2018)
Definition of Long Winded
In true, typical, King style Castle Rock is drawn out more than necessary. An exercise in how to stretch out a 4 or 5 episode series into 10. No faulting the acting and the storyline as these are really good. A slow burn that practically extinguishes the flame. If one can handle that then it may be worth the watch. If not keep a mobile device nearby to catch-up on social media activity to pass the time.
Dead Ant (2017)
Definitely not eight legged freaks...
That's because ants only have six. Hoping it would be as fun as 8lf which it was to a point and then got rather stale. Not worth the effort; even on a very slow weekend.
Dry Blood (2017)
High school project
If you enjoy really bad acting and a film style reminiscent of a high school production then this is right up your ally. If not don't even try watching on a lazy Sunday afternoon to save hating yourself; you definitely won't finish.
The House That Jack Built (2018)
Lars probably based Dillons character on his own experience as an artistic serial killer. The result is a failure in story telling and is a lecture as to what, Lars himself, constitutes as art. In a world of ultra violence there is really no need to turn brutal murder into a "dark" comedy and claim artistic expression by a director supposedly at the top of his game.
Assassination Nation (2018)
Get through the character development in the first few scenes and the rest is very relevant and is a sad indictment of today's social media frenzy and the trials and crusification by public opinion.
Good. Falls short of being great. I was hoping this would rival Favreau. Story telling was not as sharp and not all the sequences gelled.
Sharp Objects (2018)
A good 90 minute movie
A 90 minute movie dragged out over 8, very long, episodes. No faulting the actors. Amy is phenomenal as usual and the supporting cast are also top notch. Quality over quantity; afraid this is quantity with some quality thrown in for good measure.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Finally, a horror series worth watching!
Great cast. Great script. Well directed. Horror at it's best with well thought out characters, haunting locations and perfectly paced.
Anothet enjoyable super / anti hero movie. Can only get better from here. Sony needs to push this to R rated and it could be up there with Sir DeadPool!
Tom Hardy is awesome. Michelle Williams not so much. Some scenes were stock standard and unoriginal while others hit the mark and then some.
A good night's,, safe and, paint by numbers , entertainment.
Was really looking forward to getting stuck into this. Great cast. Great reviews. I didn't get it though. Pointless sketches made up each episode. If WTF is what the aim was then they nailed it. I'm not one for endless series that run over eleven seasons never mind convaluted first series. I don't get Picasso - perhaps that's my problem.
The Nun (2018)
A good old fashioned, modern, horror flik
Not perfect but worthy spin off having had massive shoes to fill. The good cast, storyline and perfect setting probably won't satisfy the expectations of those buying into the hype.
The Meg (2018)
Cheesy dialogue - check. Predictable - check. Ex saves ex - check. Typical summer blockbuster - check.
Making Meg a perfect brain dead, made for the big screen, popcorn munching festival of fun. Leave attitude and Oscar expectations at the door and you'll have a great time.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor - still one of the least favourite heros
Tried way to hard to be funny with a horrible music score, oversized props. A really disappointing mess!
