Film for film lovers
25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. I was expecting it to be too much and over the top chaos, based on the reviews, but I found it beautiful to watch, with captivating performances, particularly by Robbie.

For lovers of Singing in the Rain, this film will hit a home, it's like a modern day retelling of that story, with far more depth, truth, grit, and ugly details.

Though it does become a bit chaotic at times, I found myself captivated and engaged each of the individual stories, and moved at their respective outcomes.

Moreover the music is fantastic!! It's definitely a film you want to fully experience.

Not as good as Whiplash or LaLaLand, but still worth the time..

Meh

I love English crime shows, mostly because of how real they can be. This one looks the part but the storyline doesn't cut it. The characters routinely do things that just make no sense. It was decent entertainment but also frustrating to watch.

Excellent

This should could not be more perfect. First, the 80s nostalgia in it grabbed me right away. Although I wasn't a big Steven King or John Carpenter fan in the 80s (I was scared of their work!), it was impossible to grow up in the 80s and not be very much aware of them and their genre and style . This show pays great tribute to them and quite frankly does them better than they did themselves. I was (and still am) a big Steven Spielberg fan, and saw ET about 8 times when it came out. The homage this show does to that classic film alone makes it worth watching. If the films ET and The Thing had a love child, it would be this show.

The writing is excellent, and the performances top notch. I don't think there is a single weak moment or episode. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat, if not screaming out loud in total shock & surprise.

Quite freeky at times, so not for the light of heart. However, if you are like me and avoid horror movies because you like to sleep soundly at night, but are still kinda fascinated by them, then this is a good one. If you can still sleep after the first episode, you'll be fine. That one is as bad as it gets.

And huge kuddos to Winnona Rider for such a great comeback. I was never a fan of hers but love her in this role. It's hard not to relate to her character, a very sad & broken soul whose love for others, especially her family, keeps her moving forward, reluctantly yet so powerful.

Can't wait for Season 3!

Love that he's back!

M.Night Shyamalan is one of those filmmakers that you either love or hate, and I definitely love his work. However, I stopped watching him after the Happening, (which was really quite a terrible movie. No comment on The Last Airbender).

This is such a wonderful comeback. His ability to totally freak you out without being terrifying; to keep you fascinated, yet completely confused, it's all just so much fun! Not sure how his films can be so slow yet so gripping and FUN!

This one is bang on. The cinematography is wonderful, the story is intense and gripping. Not to mention that James Macavoy is bang on (what a great performance, love Joaquin Phoenix, but not sure he would have been quite so awesomely intense as Macavoy was).

I highly recommend this film to any thriller lovers and a must for any M.Night lovers (but I don't need to say that at this point now, do I). I agree it's not a horror film but it does very get under your skin. (If you found The Ring too much, don't watch this!)

However, if you loved The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, this is a must see!!

Can't wait to see Glass.
