I really don't know.
4 March 2020
It was okay. It felt like they'd mixed some Sex Education, Stranger Things and The End of the F***ing World.

Don't get me wrong, I like these three shows a lot, but this one... I don't really know. Like, did we really needed another show in that style? Maybe... but then they could've tried with some new concepts or ideas... I just don't feel it.

What I did like was the way the season was shot. The score was nice as well, but the obnoxious "narrated-montage-with-music" was used way too often. I enjoyed both Wyatt Oleff's & Sophia Lillis performance. Here and there it had a fine /and or/ unexpected twist but eventually these 7 episodes didn't really bring it for me.

Like I said, it was okay, I was entertained- but that's about it. Seriously, I watched the whole thing in a day (like many others)- nothing bad about that, but I'm sure many will easily forget about "I am not okay whit this" until the next season airs. It's the quick entertainment many seek. I'm just not that into it.

An extraordinary and amazing film
23 January 2018
Shape of Water is probably the most "out of order" Film I have seen in a long time- not in a negative way.

The movie is set in an unbelievably beautiful setting that aims at recreating the 1960s, and it worked- watching "Shape of Water" feels like traveling into another time and world, since it has fantasy elements. The music was conducted by Alexandre Desplat, a great composer, and he did it again: he created a awesomely fitting score, that has its themes and little nuances, and fits the movie very well. The story itself could be considered as a classic love story but I don't want to go into any detail. Sally Hawkings, being the protagonist of "Shape of Water", did a perfect job that definitely is worth an Academy Award. The rest of the cast, e.g. Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins or Michael Shannon, complement the set of amazing and on-spot acting performances.

This is an amazing movie which can enchant you but also leave you behind unimpressed/untouched. Be aware, this is a special kind of movie- and most of all, a special love story. It sometimes has harsh dialogues and comes along with a little violence and brutality , so you better be prepared for this.

Nevertheless, this film, by Gulliermo del Toro, is a great movie which I enjoyed a lot, but personally I can not call it "perfect"- but that's up to everyone. It will most certainty win some Oscars- and I'd say: well-deserved.

Dark (2017–2020)

A good show with potential
12 January 2018
The last week I watched the entire series, and I have to say that I'm quite impressed.

First of all, the setting. The place and look of "Dark" is just amazing. You're going to see great pictures and very carefully chosen sets if you decide to watch it. Overall the setting is very dark and slightly disturbing, however beautiful in its composition.

The story that is told, is interesting. It deals with questions we've all asked ourselves at least once and portrays them in a good manner. However, the story sometimes feels a little bit to superficial and now and then to profound. Nevertheless, if you liked e. g. "Stranger Things" (and similar series) you're good to go.

The acting was mostly on point. Many performances where really good, some performances disappointed me or were simply unsatisfying.

An aspect, that bothers me is the music. The sounds and the music is very fitting and thrilling. However, the music and sounds are constant. Almost no scene goes without them. Emotion and suspense doesn't need music and sounds all the time and after a few episodes it really was annoying me.

I was able to predict many turns but sometimes "Dark" caught me with a good twist. Some of the 10 Episodes where very good, others less, and I think that is the best way to describe "Dark":

I enjoyed watching this series but to me it didn't felt like a constant 'great show'. Sometimes it was very good and sometimes it was not- therefore I can't give this series more than 7 points. Nevertheless, I recommend watching it because in its key elements and in an overall picture it is still good (German) series.

In the Fade (2017)

Hate, tears and sorrow.
12 January 2018
"Aus dem Nichts" is a great movie, partly based on real events.

In its core it's tearing the viewer apart between justice and misery. Great performances from Diane Krueger but also the rest of the cast create a picture that allows the viewer to feel the pain that is portrayed in this picture. Thus, a dramatic and emotional picture is created.

The movie felt very real and close to the audience, since a setting is created that we all can relate to in a certain way.

As the movie takes rather unpredictable turns it leaves the viewer behind in disbelieve that this movie is based on real events.

If you are looking for a great German movie, that is moving and irascible, you're good to go.

Passengers (I) (2016)
7/10
Passengers is a movie worth watching but don't expect an A+ masterpiece.
4 January 2017
The Movie started of very good. The first "quarter" of the film felt like The Martian and Chris Pratt showed some great acting skills.

The combination of Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt worked very well throughout the movie. The setting (especially the beautiful design of the locations and the ship) made the Movie worth watching.

The movies basic idea was brilliant. Passengers is not a space action adventure neither a romance all along, it's a mix of multiple Genres.

Good acting, beautiful space scenes and a little laughter helped keeping a constant level of joy.

The only thing I didn't liked about the film was the ending. The Ending was weaker than the beginning and a little bit over the top... However, Passengers is a movie worth watching.
