This ain't like forest firefighting for real
8 October 2022
Like most TV cop shows not being a true reflection of the actual job (I was a Student Security Officer for my university's police department for 5 years), the first episode showed us lots of things that were right about fighting forest fires, but emphasized only the most harrowing and adventurous aspects. If you think digging a fire line is exciting, think again. It's hard work, takes hours and hours, is as boring as you can imagine and takes place far away from any active flames. (And yes, I also worked two summers as a forest fire fighter.)

Like most TV shows, the actual framework seems to be used simply as a way to dramatize interpersonal relationships. If you enjoy that and take a big grain of salt, you'll like this show.

The entertaininly unexpected
2 May 2022
This was not your typical episode, with lots of incongruities, shortcuts and plot holes, yet it was entertaining nonetheless. Unlike the other reviewers, I entirely enjoyed the change of pace and the introduction of a fascinating new character. I really do hope they come out with a spin-off featuring her out-of-the-box approach to law enforcement and crime solving.

Different and fun
12 February 2022
Wow, I really can't believe the low ratings this episode is getting. I thought it was one of the best and funniest of the whole series thus far. It was revealing, silly, zany, nutso and entertaining, showing sides of the characters not seen before. I liked it exactly because it was so different from all episodes to date.

A failure of communication
25 December 2021
Wow, if I were on a mission that involved a high level of danger, I would not expect fellow members of my crew to react to questions with hesitation or no response at all. Prompt and unambiguous communication is vital to the success of the mission and the well-being of the crew.

There should have been at least 5 times as much dialog taking place. Multiple simple status checks and prompt responses were entirely lacking, making this look like a slo-mo parody of actual space missions.

Houston, we have a....

Down gets up

Were those my emotions being tugged at? Yes, hard. This episode reminded me that sure, life can be really hard and experiences very bad, but there's enough good in other people and sometimes just a bit of luck makes it all worthwhile and in the end you smile and feel better. What an episode!

Whodda thunk?

Doctors caring about people? What a concept. Diversity a good thing? Yes. Drama in the operating room? I would assume that really happens, since it's often a matter of life and death. Lots of reviewers writing this off as woke? My guess is they are not going forward, the overall lesson of this episode.

Science Funtasy

I'm not at all a fan of fantasy, but am a science fiction enthusiast with a funny bone. This show hits that bone again and again and again. Let's call it what it really is: science funtasy!

Made me feel much better
10 October 2018
After spending last week in the hospital to have a malignant tumor removed from my left kidney I am so much more aware of the importance of empathy on the part of medical personnel. Some work in hospitals as a job or an occupation, but most do it as a calling, a profession. This series highlights the human side of such professionals such as the doctors and nurses, even the cleaning and food services staff that made me feel like a person, not a case number. This series is so uplifting it made me feel much better while actually watching it while lying in a hospital bed. I was not being "processed", but being truly treated, both medically and with respect and empathy and this series mirrors my recent experiences. I am so grateful a series such as this became available right when I needed it most.

Not your typical mini-series
22 September 2018
Psychology, anthropology, linguistics and information technology wrapped into an amazingly well-acted Sci-Fi story. At times I was confused, surprised, mystified and yet the plot was so incredibly well woven and presented. I can think of nothing better I have seen in years and watching this was time well spent.
