Badhaai ho (2018)
Superb !!!
This film is really wonderful and Ayushman's script choices has really impressed everybody a lot. Every single actor in this movie is literally the hero of the movie. The first half of humorous while the second half focusses on family emotions which makes the viewer emotional. A great film to watch with your family for sure !!
Tumbbad (2018)
8.4 !! Overrated!!!
It's a good attempt in making a psychological thriller film in India and somehow it has suceeded. But 8.4 rating on Imdb is quite overrated. Given that this film took 5 years in the making is evident in the film as it is technically very good. The cinematography of this film is excellent. The biggest takeaway is the performances. Sohum Shah, who is both the producer and lead in this film is very believable as a greedy man Vinayak. Mohammad Samad who plays both the grand mother and Vinayak's greedy son is outstanding. The weakest point of this film is that it is slow which makes the viewer lose interest. But otherwise the audience will get fascinated by the sets and will appreciate the creativity of the makers of this film. Rahi Anil Bharwe needs to work as a director more frequently as director as he has got a lot of potential. Special mention to Aanand L Rai for producing this film.
Gold (2018)
Wannabe Chakde India !! But It Still Works
Gold (2018) directed by Reema Kagti, who is known for directing films like Talaash and Honeymoon Travels and starring Akshay Kumar in the lead is the story about how India won it's first Olympic Hockey Gold Medal as a free nation. It is the story that needed to be told in the best possible way but lacks in execution. The plot seems to be rather fictitious and made up and it feels that the film lacks in research. The set design though is up to the mark according to that time. the pacing of the movie is quite good along with the editing.
In ChakDe though there was a performance of a lifetime from SRK but Akshay Kumar, sorry to say, has failed to perform to that level. The director has tried to make Akshay Kumar character looks funny but infact it is irritating !! Mouni Roy was decent in her role though she didn't had much to do in this film. The love story between Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy also looked forced as they had zero chemistry between them. There are no memorable performances in this movie but the other actors have performed decently.
Overall this film is a decent one time watch even for Akshay Kumar fans but now the time has come for him to do other stuff also than these patriotic films.
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017)
A Great Romantic Film With A Stupid Ending !!!
Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana, directed by Ratnaa Singh and starring Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda is a 2017 romantic comedy film which also showcases the evil practices happening in our society like the dowry system and gender stereotypes etc. The pacing of the film is quite good and boast of some really good performances from both the leads Rajkumar Rao and Kriti Kharbanda. The movie choices of Rajkumar Rao is just spot on and he has proved once again that he is the most versatile actors of this industry.
However, there were many loopholes in the film because sometimes it felt unreal as to how the government employees can react in this way ?? The ending of the film is a big letdown as that kind of ending was really not necessary for this kind of film. The moral of the film is really good one and especially for the men out there that -
" SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE "
I (2015)
Vikram's I !!!
Yes !!!! It should certainly be called Vikram's I rather than Shankar's I. It is a film that deserves 7 out of 10 stars just because of the dedicated performance from a lead actor. Really, he has given everything to this role. He has given one of the most greatest performance one can ever see in any Indian Film. He has played four different characters in this film.
1. A bodybuilder.
2. A hunchback.
3. A supermodel.
4. A beast ( just for a song sequence ).
But, got to say he has nailed every role in the film.
S. Shankar has directed this film but got to say I, as a Shankar fan, was a little disappointed with his direction this time. This film is 3 hours 8 minutes long which shouldn't have been in the case of this film. The length of this film could have easily been cut out 15 to 20 minutes easily.
All the other supporting actors and actresses including the lead actress Amy Jackson are just flat in the film. It must be because of the fact that Shankar didn't focused on their parts as much as he did on Vikram.
The music by A.R. Rahman is amazing as usual but in this film he has taken it on to the next level. The songs in the film are amazing (some of them shouldn't have been in this film). The background music is terrific as you can expect from A.R. Rahman. Infact it's the music of this film which manages to connect with the audience along with Vikram Sir's acting.
P.C. Sreeram has done an outstanding job with the cinematography. He is certainly one of the best cinematographers we have and he has proved time and again. His camerawork especially in the China scenes is amazing and same goes for the songs. The songs have been shot in an interesting way.
The action of this film is really irritating to be honest and especially the China action scene is unbearable. The cage fight scene is good and the background music particularly in that scene is awesome.
Editing is not good in the fight scenes and also in the whole movie as it could have easily been 15 to 20 minutes short.
The VFX used in the film is good.
All in all "I" is a good one time watch entertainer.
Thank You.
Ugly (2013)
Ugly is beautiful!!!
This movie's name may be Ugly but it is a masterpiece indeed. This movie was released alongside PK which was a big film that is why it got unnoticed. Anurag Kashyap - The name is enough. This man is a beast. This man is like a one man army who has brought the change in the Indian Film Industry as far as writing is concerned and indeed the writing of this movie is the biggest plus point of this film.
This movie revolves around Kali who is the daughter of a divorced couple. Kali stays with her mom and is extremely fond of her dad. Due to the rules and regulations, his dad gets to meet his daughter only on Saturdays. He is an struggling actor who wants to make it big in the film industry. One such day he takes her daughter to a film producer and instead of taking her with himself, he leaves her in the car and she gets kidnapped. This leads to a chain of events that is going to blow the audience away. For that you have to watch the film.
The direction by Anurag Kashyap is first rate. This kind of gritty direction has never been seen before in Indian films.
The writing by Vasan Bala and Anurag Kashyap is excellent and will set a benchmark in Indian films.
The actors have also done a really fine job. Each and every actor gives justice to his/her roles. Rahul Bhatt is wonderful as the struggling actor (Rahul Kapoor) and Rohit Roy is also excellent as the IPS officer (Shoumik Bose). Both these leads literally act with their eyes and in addition their dialogue delivery is also excellent.
The supporting cast have also done a really fine job and especially Vineet Kumar Singh is phenomenol.
The editing of the film is crisp and to the point.
The background music is also excellent as far as these kinds of films are concerned.
All in all Ugly is a fantastic film. This film is available on Netflix and I would like to urge the people to see this film online. I know some garbage movies are being made in Bollywood but this kind of stuff often go unnoticed.
Thank you
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero (2018)
A superhero that India needed.
Hats off to Vikramaditya Motwane for directing such film and most importantly "Phantom" productions for funding such a script. Such a fresh concept in Indian Cinema frequently comes to light. It's a really good standalone Indian vigilante film which needs to get recognised. The major plus point of this film is that it has been shot in real locations and no CGI is used, which is a rarity in this day and age. I know this film will not collect enough money at the box office as such gems always go unnoticed but I would urge the people to support this film on digital medium when it gets released.
Thank you
