Movie of your dreams
Here I'll be reviewing Inception, a movie I just re-watched for the 3rd time a short while ago. Inception was the 4th highest grossing film of 2010 and 14th highest rated movie ever (according to IMDb) and is well known for it's beautiful imagery and complex plot.
Inception follows Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), a man haunted by the death of his wife, who makes a living off of entering people's subconscious. When a wealthy man wants him to head into a young CEO's mind and subliminally make him break up his company Cobb assembles a team to do so. Little does he realize the further he goes into the CEO's subconscious the deeper he goes into his own. I think the actors did a brilliant job, from the big names of Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic, Catch me if you can) and Michael Caine (The Batman Trilogy) to the lesser known ones like Ellen Page (who plays Ariadne).
What I really liked about this movie is it keeps you guessing. Just when you start to understand what's going on it changes things up. Its dream worlds are brilliantly imagined and it's plot is well thought-out with all of its intricacies. Some of the scenes were even done with practical effects. For the fight in the hallway with changing gravity, they actually built a hallway and spun it. My biggest gripe with the film is the dialogue which, while well written, is filled with exposition at the beginning of the film and slightly awkwardly cut occasionally. Though with this sort of film this is a necessary evil and did have action scenes to break it up.
I think the main target audience would be people who enjoy mind-bending thrillers and action movies aged (as the MPAA rating suggests) 13+. I give this movie a 9.5/10 and recommend it for anyone to see as it's one of the best of it's genre.
