Interesting film, but with a slow pace...
4 December 2022
Normally I like most of the movies Tilda Swinton starred in, not all, but most of them.

"The Eternal Daughter" could have been something more than what it is if perhaps more suspense had been added, maybe a few more characters. It could have been a great "Ghost Story", but probably the director did not want this from the film she created. The scenery and the entire "environment" from the hotel would have permitted that.

The film wants to emphasize the mother-daughter relationship and the mark that some people leave on our lives, even after they pass away.

However, I was disappointed by the somewhat slow pace in which the story was conceived.

Amazing amount of bullets
22 June 2021
Very different from his well known character Jimmy McGill from Better Call Saul. First scenes made him look like kinda soft, but as minutes went by, the viewer can assist to an impressive transformation :) Also the amount of bullets spent in this movie was quite awesome, didn't see this amount of ammo since the last Expendables directed by Sly Stallone.

An interesting movie which reveals one of the other versatile faces of Bob Odenkirk, this time under the careful eye of Ilya Naishuller - a young Russian director who created an interesting story combining various actors and making a pretty captivating action movie.

A bit exaggerated, but there is no room for boredom, stay assured :)

happy ending ??
12 May 2021
This movie was almost perfect, the ending was pretty weird though.

I mean the entire movie was awesome, their two zodiacal signs were matching perfectly, but as soon I was hoping for something more, the cast presentation started to appear... I was hoping for more hugs or at least a French kiss perhaps.

This movie made me sigh :)

Life decisions to make
25 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A woman from Bilbao finds out about some not great news which are about to make a huge change in her life. She and some co-working girlfriends decide to go in a before planned trip, a trip she decides to take in spite of the news she found out recently and in spite of her son's request to stay. Here she meets a simple/common man with whom at first glance doesn't have too much in common. Gradually they develop a relationship - she has a lot of empathy, intelligence while he is a simple man, doesn't have many things to say, he looks a bit rough, but eventually he turns out to be kind and compassionate, able to make her feel well and keep her comfort. A film which makes you balance what you do with the life in front of you and how will you spend your remaining moments of your time.

music and landscape mixture...
13 April 2020
I would say the movie deserves a 6 and not a 5 mainly because of the quality of the classical music and the breathtaking outdoor landscapes and all the locations where it was shot. Katie Holmes is also a delight but sometimes the words flowing out of her mouth were far bigger than she seemed to comprehend. Patrick Stewart plays his role, but I've seen better performances during his career. He looks like a pianist in his suit but his hands are more like the hands of an ex- Starfleet Commander :)

quite an impressive role...
27 March 2020
Watching Elizabeth Moss in various movies and the famous Handmaid's Tale you cannot possibly not like her. The Invisible Man (2020) quite a great movie this year where Elisabeth is doing her job marvelously. I would say finally a role on her character, a role which marks her career in a positive way. I'm saying this because I think after and before "The Handmaid's Tale", not all movies were overwhelming, but this one surely is. The film is well constructed but seen from a different angle and concentrating on Cecilia Kasses character first, even though the story is quite a new one, quite authentic and different from the book by H.G. Wells. However the Griffin name appears again along with the Invisible Man's character. A worth watching movie, one of the best thrillers made this year !

pretty decent movie
25 September 2019
I think it's one of the most decent movies made (of this genre) this year. I believe it's more like a thriller rather than a horror, but with nice scenery, great performance and amazingly created predators.

Zombie and country music mixture....
2 September 2019
A movie made by the great Jim Jarmusch, most probably in one of his holidays when he had his brain relaxed. The movie is an easy one, it can be watched after a couple of drinks or a few joints. A bunch of great actors summoned to play in the new and unpredictable movie created by Jim Jarmusch. Everyone accepted most probably because there were a few bucks and some free drinks involved and of course because it was signed by the great Jim Jarmusch :) The plot is about some small town inhabitants who wake up all of a sudden that they attacked by zombies. So they start gathering all sort of "instruments" to defend themselves and start killing them on a great country music sounding in the background. Until some point they are lucky because the undead are moving incredible slowly so they have time for maneuver and may cut a few heads faster than the attackers. Adam Driver uses a machete, which turns to be not so sharp as Tilda Swinton's samurai sword who looks like a real professional when it comes to cut a few heads. The movie probably deserves a 4, but I rated it with a 6 just because of the professional shooting and the night scenes. A film worth watching but only after a good meal during a siesta. You may fall asleep during the movie but you can always rewind or go forward because they are just shooting and cutting heads 75 percent of the movie.

Pretty nice action movie
17 June 2019
Filmed in the mountains the movie tells the story of a young mother (military trained mother) trying to get back her son kidnapped by the so called "Father" (Richard Dreyfuss). Nice winter mountain landscapes and a lot of action with people trying to survive in the wilderness among wild cruel wolves. I believe it was a pretty decent action movie, well directed shot in the mountains with an amazing scenery. Worth watching !

Poorly directed
15 June 2019
Watching the trailer can lure you sometimes in a total disappointment. First of all Miles Doleac - director and actor - failed in both ways making a fool of himself both as an actor as well as a director. The film is poorly directed, the sounds and the way of filming giving you the sensation that is more like a theater rather than a film. Also Miles Doleac seems awesomely fake playing the negative character. The two lesbian - gay women seem just like faking the lesbian feelings - being obvious in real life they are both straight actors. Some dialogues are also overreacted making from the film a true disaster. The story is built on a mixture of Native American sacrifice traditions combined with some occult crap invented to make the story more real, thing which had a total different negative result. The only positive thing that may have resulted from this terrible film (which wants to be a horror) is the fact that the movie may have been a propulsion for Lindsay Anne Williams who plays one of the two lesbian - gay women. Her acting seems fake but her appearance and sex appeal may want other directors to use her in some other movies (maybe higher in quality than this movie). So maybe under the instructions of a better prepared director she would do a better job.

a funny horror story
2 February 2019
I found the movie relaxing :) Interesting but I would classify the movie more like a horror - comedy rather than a horror - thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a very interesting character - an art reviewer and critique. He made an interesting performance playing great his gay/bisexual art reviewer role. John Malkovich as usual is also great - he plays the role of an artist with a huge lack of inspiration, but a well known artist in the artist society. A guy with great oratorical skills, but with no inspiration. The story takes place in Miami. After an artist dies, his paintings are taken from his apartment and people are trying to obtain profit or get rich using the found paintings. It's just that a series of unfortunate events happen after people start watching the paintings. Deadly unfortunate events which seem to punish the greed and all those who tried to obtain an advantage after they put their hands on the paintings.

very boring
31 January 2019
In think it was one of the most boring films I've seen in the past 2 years. A guy goes in a boring town to see how was his father living when he was alive. So he decides to do what his father did. So since it was a small town where no one had no future and the jobs limited, he went to work in a shop/mall where his father used to work. Dialogues are boring, the main character is the most boring. A film about how people end up being losers because they chose to remain in a city where nothing ever happens. A film about common losers who decide to stay instead of changing something in their lives.

weaker than expected
18 January 2019
I was mainly disappointed after I watched the movie. I would say Claire Foy didn't made a bad role, but Mara Rooney played a better Lisbeth Salander role. I think she had more wilderness in her :) Lakeith Stanfield playing the NSA expert role, also seemed more like a dude, than a real expert. He had more like a dude face, not a serious employee of a serious american agency. Also Sylvia Hoeks, playing Lisbeth's sister was really annoying and it was completely inappropriate for the role. The frozen scenery was pretty nice, but as far as I noticed, they picked only a few places to film. It's clear that David Finch made a better film with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" than Fede Alvarez in this movie. Maybe if he would had chosen at least one higher rated actor, and more places to film in, the film would have had a bigger impact. This doesn't mean that I don't have faith in young actors or fresh talents, but doing this he would have attracted more audience in my opinion. I rewatched "The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" like 3 or maybe 4 times, because I like the subject, but I don't think I would watch one more time this movie. Interesting, but not brilliant.

Lady Gaga the Lion Star
10 January 2019
I always thought that Lady Gaga is a bit exaggerated. But not because of her clothes or hair, but because sometimes she exaggerates in doing something or thanking too much when it's not necessary. Obviously she is very talented and gifted and what I wrote above is not criticism, but more like a guy who sees a young woman who might overreact things, but the fact that she is more talented or sexy sometimes, it makes you forgive her exuberance :) In this movie overall she was cute, she acted great and her voice was the cherry from the top of the cake. You can obviously see that despite of her hair or exaggerations (sometimes), she is a great character and soul. A real lioness in my opinion. The sound, music and voice were perfect in this movie. But let's talk about other aspects as well. I thought the scene from the beginning when she sings the French song is bit overreacted.... maybe if they would have polished that scene, everything would have been perfect. Also the punch she gives to the guy in the bar is again another unnecessary embellishment because even though she is a lioness with great heart... she is still a sensitive woman. Plus that in real life, maybe that guy would have reacted in some way :) As a subjective opinion I also think blue, blonde and dark curly red hair suit her very much, but not light red :) Her voice is a true power, voice of sensitive great lion with a big heart. I think though in a few years she will be a perfect star from every point of view. I also watched the Golden Globes where I saw she overreacted again with too many thanks and gratitude she has to everyone :) I mean it's clear she is great and she is aware of that, but a simple gesture of gratefulness is enough I think. Those who helped her and at some point launched her are just regular people in the end and not Gods from Mount Olympus. She sang after all with all those great stars until now and she is already a personality in music.

Interesting, bizarre but with no sense :)
25 December 2018
The story and the characters are unique and interesting but the story is without a sense. I felt like jumping from David Lynch's Twin Peaks into a movie made by Lars Von Trier and ending in a movie directed by Jim Jarmusch :) Then I was thinking to a parallel to one of the John Fowles books, but naaah ... his stories were far more intelligent and with more common sense. Maybe it's me and I didn't understood the subtle meaning of the movie, but I'm quite sure I wasn't drunk when I watched it. I would have given an 8 to this movie for the characters and places the movie was shot, but watching further I was kinda disappointed because the movie was going nowhere. Then I thought maybe it deserves a 7, but in the end I changed my mind and gave the movie a 6 just because it had no sense. It wasn't like a movie with those unpredictable endings but it was like an unpredictable nonsense and maybe waste of time ? I don't regret I watched it, but I just thought it will end in a different way.

A strange movie made by Pedro Almodóvar
30 September 2018
I would characterize the movie as a perverse one, but I didn't found it bad, nor brilliant. That's why I rated the movie with a 7, even though it is not one of my favorite subjects. A different theme approached by Pedro Almodóvar. If someone has power and can manipulate, it is more than sure he will do it because he can, especially if he is driven by revenge as in this doctor's case played by Antonio Banderas. But thinking he can manipulate the soul, or someone's behavior and not only his appearance has turned out to be a mistake eventually. Some scenes are monotonous in the middle of the film, but the beginning and the end are quite thrilling.

Funny, interesting, relaxing Spanish film
25 September 2018
The funny story of a man who wanted desperately to become a writer and writing "The Book" of his life, true and authentic literature. The lack of inspiration and self confidence combined with the fact that his wife (another writer who achieved success) cheats him with someone else, make him rent a flat and seek inspiration and a story for his book. At his teacher/ mentor's advice he starts seeking a story in real life, more exactly in the block he rented the apartment. Trying to write a good story he befriends with a few neighbors, sometimes overreacting or hiding the truth hoping he will have an effect for his book, a good story to write about. The film is interesting, funny but not very brilliant in some ways. I would say it's a good movie, but not a very complicated one. The actors are doing a great job, so it is a worth watching film, the watcher will not be bored.

Good, but not like the first.
20 September 2018
I was hoping for something more after seeing the first one, but I was a bit disappointed. The first Sicario had a story, some more complicated situations, this one had some action but it was too simply directed. The actors were great, but I think Denis Villeneuve made a better job than Stefano Solima.

Funny. Relaxing. Overreacted dialogues.
18 September 2018
First when I started to watch the movie I thought the dialogues were a bit overreacted even for the both of them. Then later as I was continuing to watch the movie I thought they were like these two idiots that found each other at this wedding and kept talking all the time about everything and nothing, turning each thing on each side and commenting everything about it. In conclusion I think it was a funny, relaxing, easy movie; being one of the best performances of Keanu Reeves since Dracula, Matrix and the Devil's Advocate. I'm happy to see him back where he belongs and not playing all those low rated movies made by Eli Roth or his last failure called Siberia. I think both of them missed each other since Dracula and they made a nice performance.

Interesting...
21 March 2018
I found the movie by chance. I was learning Italian and I started to seek something related to Italy. I gave the movie an 8 because of the father - son conversation from the end of the movie. Michael Stuhlbarg is playing an amazing father role in the movie. I think it was the most perfect choice in the film. I was ready to rate the movie with a 7 but I changed my mind after the father -son conversation. Arnie Hammer is playing the role of a handsome man (I think he lost a bit of weight for the movie) who fells in love with this younger boy. They play their roles nice, but even though they act well for the movie it's clear they are non-gay or should I say non-bisexual actors. The film has a nice scenery, nice landscapes, beautiful house in Italy in the 80's. The directing is excellent, I think though for this kind of roles they should use real gay or real bisexual people though ;) That would make the movie more real. As a parenthesis and maybe many people will disagree with me, we are seeing lately many, many gay / bisexual films, so I think maybe some people want to develop the idea of everyone should do and enjoy their sexuality no matter if it is a heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual one. But I also think we are experiencing an overreaction. A push of something (which was considered a taboo subject or maybe something disagreed by the majority ) into something that should be considered normal. I think heterosexuality will be soon a forgotten subject because other things have to be accepted as normal ;) Sorry for the mean comment but I just had to say it ;) However the directing was amazing and again hats off for Michael Stuhlbarg who's final conversation makes the cherry from the top of the cake.

Great special effects but not the good old Star Wars
10 March 2018
These days thanks to technique and special effects you can create and continue what once George Lucas started. So I rated the movie with a 7 for the nice scenery, special effects and alien characters created. But I consider the movie a disappointment, because of the overreacting characters and everything not being the same anymore since George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. I mean you can clearly make the difference that it's not George Lucas's magic hand anymore. All those old scenes where MAster Yoda was appearing, all those past great landscapes are not the same anymore. Old landscapes and all the old characters gave to the movie a certain weight and put accent on characters. Even though the new film has action and great special effects nothing is the same anymore. All those winter battle scenes from the Battle of Hoth with the AT-AT's are long gone. I hope they will stop shooting and continuing because they will just spoil what Lucas created and Star Wars will just fade away. Unless Lucas will start directing again because what he did cannot be continued by others.

Interesting, but not amazing.
31 January 2018
I don't know why everyone made such a fuss about this movie, but still it remains interesting. It is a movie about two gay people, played by non-gay actors ;) When Alec Secareanu was throwing those warm glances, even if he played almost perfectly his gay role, there was something fake in his eyes. I think Josh O'Connor played a bit better his role, showing real emotion on his face and deep feelings. If I would make a comparison between Brokeback Mountain and this film, the tenderness between the two characters seem to be more real than in Ang Lee's - Brokeback Mountain. It's a worth seeing movie, but not extremely amazing, so I watched the movie out of curiosity.

nice simple film about life ;)

I really enjoyed the movie. It was a cute film about simple things that matter, about people, about society. Two oldies but goldies ;) Having a roof above your head is important but the interrelationship between people is more important.

nice and interesting, but a bit boring than "The Trip to Italy - 2014"
9 December 2017
I enjoyed watching the 3rd movie with these 2 friends traveling through European countries (so far), but I might say I enjoyed more "The Trip to Italy" maybe because Italy is not so arid like Spain or maybe because "The Trip to Italy" was more spontaneous and had a bit more action. I rated the movie with an 8 because I liked the city views, landscapes and the posh restaurants where they were eating, one of them writing restaurant reviews. Shortly it was a nice relaxing movie about Spain's culture and food, even though in my view their conversations (sitting in various fancy restaurants) have a lot of cultural subjects, which are nice, but a bit too embellished of too much information. I mean the conversations are a bit too much for the regular, average man who's watching the movie. But maybe the movie is targeting a much more fancy or intellectual public. But even though I liked more the second part (The Trip to Italy), the film is taking you to the wonderful places of Spain so it's like a little getaway or break from the normal or maybe monotonous everyday's life which we live daily. Maybe in a couple of years we will see a fourth part, who knows where, but wouldn't be just nice to put more spices on the script, or add more red wine, just to give the film a bit of better flavor, to make it better or tastier than this last film "The Trip to Spain" which was great but not perfect. The food is great in every movie, the wine is tasty, conversations are nice and interesting, the traveling is also amazing, so I recommend all 3 movies as worth to be watching.

Mother! (2017)

why great actors accept these kind of roles ?
6 December 2017
When I started to watch the movie, I took it seriously, I mean I thought I am watching a high rated horror film.... I mean I didn't saw a great horror film since Stephen King's - "The Shining" made by Stanley Kubrick. Not that I'm a Stephen King fan. But Kubrick done a great job with that movie. Every horror lately doesn't receive a higher rating than 5 or lower. Anyway... getting back to the movie. As I wrote in the beginning I took the film seriously first, then when I started to see the cellar scenes I thought she will discover some early dirty secret of his from his past. I think after 50 minutes from the movie I started to realize what a huge fiasco the film is. So the film wants to be an allegory as some commented about the movie. Javier being God, Pfeiffer being Eve and Harris being Adam. And their children being Cain and Abel.

If I may make a stupid joke I would say : A mother stays in the kitchen, Cain and Abel have finished watching "Mother ! ". After a while Cain says - what a waste of time. Hearing this Abel gets angry and says: why is this a waste of time? Maybe you didn't perceived the hidden meaning of the film. Cain answers what hidden meaning ? This is the worst underrated movie I've seen in centuries. Abel replies : well this movie has deep biblical meanings. Cain : I never read the Bible. Abel: then why are you talking about something when you don't even have the slightest idea of what the movie is all about. Cain: you know what? Go to hell ! So Cain and Abel are starting to fight almost killing each other. After one hour of fight Cain throws a can of popcorn towards Abel. Abel had his mouth open and a piece of popcorn flew straight in his mouth. After a few seconds Abel chokes suddenly and dies ;) ..... Another movie made with great actors playing in order to get more income. I think Jennifer Lawrence played a great mommy in the movie, but maybe someone gives her a better role. I mean she's the perfect young mother type, every man would love such a mommy wife but she should read the script twice before playing. A 4 for this movie. In my view a totally waste of time and money ;)
