DiCaprio and De Niro ACE this story
21 November 2023
Although it's hard to watch the overt abuse of a teen, overall this film is an excellent portrayal of the book that Tobias Wolff wrote about his experiences as a youth.

The character studies are well done, and I liked that there was a follow-up to each main charcter in the credits. It satisfied my curiosity.

It really helped me to know that in real life, Leonardo di Caprio and Robert de Niro are the best of friends. Years later, Leo publicly giving him heartfelt compliments about him being his his mentor during the making of this film (1993} That was when their friendship began, and it continues today.

Body of Proof: Mind Games (2012)
Season 2, Episode 20

This Show is Going Awry
29 June 2023
I quite enjoyed 'Body of Proof' for the first season and most of Season Two. However, the final was so awful I did not complete viewing it. The subject matter chosen was so unpleasant it did not have the same tone as the other episodes; which had a feel-good ending. This was more like a Horror movie than a day in the life of a Medical Examiner!

So I began Season Three and was taken aback at how violent this show has become. Bringing Mark Valley/Tommy Sullvan on board seemed a good idea until we are given a taste of just how nasty Megan Hunt could be to him. As the story unfolded I decided to stop watching it, due to the same strain of 'fright-night' style storyline.

Season 2 Better Than The First
2 June 2023
Having looked forward to the second season of 'With Love', I was excited to see it on my screen yesterday. The first episode was so good that I binged all six in one go. - Thank you Prime Video.

As the series progresses, there are some ups and downs, which is to be expected. Some took longer to resolve than I'd have liked, but that is how it goes on TV.

Most of the actors portrayed their characters well which made it really enjoyable viewing,

As always, 'With Love' provides celebrations that require lovely settings, clothing, and food, all contributing to very pleasing scenes. 'The Wedding ' of Henry and Jorge is standout marerial. I was in tears watching them say their vows.

It ends so that a third Season is possible., but not essential.

Beauty and the Geek Australia: Grand Finale (2022)

A Great Series!
28 March 2023
I have loved 'Beauty and the Geek, Australia' since its first show. Every season, the host ensures that the 'feel-good' factor remains consistent.

I am a grandmother and still am brought to tears at the way these lovely young people speak of their appreciation to one another through their growth as individuals.

Kudos to Sophie Monk for her input. She sets the example of pleasant behaviour and supportiveness.

Activities on the whole, were interesting and different from previous seasons. Most participants coped well with them.

Make-overs were popular, and I see why. All the guys looked great when they came through the doors. It certainly surprised them to have girls screaming at the sight of them!

I do hope that there will be more Beauty and the Geek seasons in the future. It has consistently been the only reality show that remains positive all the way through.

Thank you Australia for such an enjoyable experience.

Love Knots (2021 TV Movie)

An Easy Watch
25 March 2023
As I am a Kiwi, living in New Zealand, I was a tad confused about the location of this movie, but nowhere on its IMDb page does it give information about filming.

I wondered whether to watch this, as the lead female was anything but sweet at first. However, I decided to relax and give it a chance and turned out okay. Eventually.

The male lead was pleasant throughout in spite of the rudeness of Jodie. And his patience paid off in the end.

This is a very 'Hallmark' movie with an unsurprising finish. What made it worth watching had to do with the lovely marina and surroundings we were treated to.

Gilmore Girls: Happy Birthday, Baby (2003)
Season 3, Episode 18
Paying Back the Debt
12 October 2022
During this rather frustrating episode, Lorelei's father presents her with a cheque for $75,000, which she gives to her mother saying she has paid back all of the money she owed. However, it was clearly stated in the first season that the fees for attendance at Chilton were $50,000 per year. Over three years that equals $150,000 which is twice the amount.

This kind of detail missed and forgotten by the script writers is annoying, and it's not the first time. When Richard and Emily were disapproving of their daughter's plans to take Rory on a backpacing holiday, again, it had shown in an earlier episode that both parents were supportive.

Also Jackson's fiery rants are becoming old!

Jess lying and being rude to Luke is getting really stale. I'd like to see him turn over a new leaf so we can understand why Rory broke up with Dean to be with Jess,

A Refreshing Change
25 June 2022
How nice to see a fresh, new approach to a reality dating show. It's so much better than the average themes we've seen before. The fact that all who walk into the venue are known to the person they came to meet, adds to the whole idea being conveyed.

This show is addictive. I had to binge watch all ten episodes once I started! The participants vary in personality, and most are likeable. Any tension is understandable, and comparitively, there is a minimum of drama.

I enjoyed the beautiful location for this season. The settings and foods were eye candy. All in all a great first season for this new concept.

Hustle: The Delivery (2011)
Season 7, Episode 6

The last episode of "Hustle" available on NZ Prime Video
1 November 2021
Looking forward to relishing the last available episode. I've grown fond of Mickey, Albert, Ash, Emma and Sean.

But I was disappointed that the storyline showed Albert reneging on a promise he made.

This was a sad day for me, as I really liked his character and felt very let down by that part of the script.

"Delivery" was cleverly written as usual. A surprise in the story was welcome, as it led to a brighter conclusion for all concerned.

Auckland's scenery was a star in this episode
3 September 2021
I loved seeing The Domain, Museum and Auckland Harbour scenes. What a fabulous background to a good story.

This episode was of a higher standard, in my opinion.

Looking forward to seeing future offerings.

Disgusted with the very first scene
29 June 2021
I tuned into this On Demand and was disgusted that within a minute a wahine is shown projectile vomiting green bile out on the street.

If this is the so-called humour, I don't like it at all.

It's a pity that as All Saints has progressed, the story lines have become quite implausible at times.

Alan Rickman is listed in the lesser roles. The reason for this - he is the voice of Hans Gruber (archive footage) That is why you didn't see him - angelesoribe

An Excellent Series
15 March 2020
Recently, I watched the four episodes on Freeview. It was very interesting to see how three main elements - wind, water and temperature - play a part in manifesting our daily weather. All of the contributing experts were engaging, clearly absorbed in their chosen profession. It's well worth viewing this easy to understand scientific series.
