Tales from the Crypt (1972)
Why... why did I like it?
Let me start this out by saying: from a filmmaking standpoint, this is NOT a good movie by any means. The acting is ok, there is very little music, the effects are bad, the dialogue is meh, it has aged HORRIBLY, and the plots of the stories are good at best. However, the film has such an odd charm to it that I just can't help but like it. You can tell that everyone involved was having fun and giving it their all, and the special effects are so bad, they're just fun. That a good word to describe the film: fun. It's just strangely entertaining and is a fun movie to watch with some friends. It's very charming and light hearted, I just liked it, even though i feel like I shouldn't have. I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to see an utterly bizarre and fun movie.
Evil Lunch Lady (2020)
AMAZING
An amazing movie! You will not be disappointed at all in any way, shape, or form.
Berserker (1987)
Worse than I anticipated
Berserker promises the standard backwoods slasher package: a group of teens played by middle aged adults go camping and are subsequently murdered. That was all I really needed from this, as I am an extreme fan of the genre. I was even expecting more, as this movie claims to be about a cannibalistic Viking warrior killing of the young adults. But what I got from this was absolute boredom.
First of all, it's horribly lit, so you can't see a thing that's going on. Second, I find myself very easily entertained. I love these types of movies. I love just seeing the teens getting killed off one by one. I think these movies can be really fun and entertaining, and despite lacking a plot or good film making, I find myself entertained by these films. For Berserker, that was not the case.
Let me just save you some time. It's boring. All they do is wander around the woods that you can't even see. Plus, the killer looks like an idiot. Not cool at all.
So in conclusion, the film is very, very boring. The deaths aren't special, the killer is stupid looking, and you can't see any of it. The only entertainment here is in the end where the killer and the bear get in a fight.
Spirit Camp (2009)
I did not expect it to be this good
Yes, this film is not perfect. There are few campers at this summer camp, all the deaths are offscreen, and it takes a little while to get going. But everything else I loved about this movie. It is by no means a good story, but the surprisingly good acting, hilarious deliveries, facial expressions, and interesting acting decisions made it so entertaining to watch. The cast is truly the best part. If there were different actors, this would not be a good movie. But everything the actors brought made it so much better. Would recommend for slasher fans.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
I'm sorry... but this ain't it.
Don't get me wrong, it has done definitely good things going for it. The lead actors are quite good and entertaining, and the child catcher is very creepy. Plus, it has a cool car and the first half is a good story. But the second half, not so much. The story just goes too far. There is A LOT of plot lines, and so many random scenes that it's just a waste of time. Also, the songs are dumb, the kids are annoying, and many scenes either don't make sense or are just flat out stupid.
I will say that some LITTE kids might enjoy it, but I wouldn't count this as a classic film by any means.
SPOILER ALERT
The dumbest part of the entire film is that it turns out that the whole second half was a story that the father told his kids.
The Kill Count (2017)
Who doesn't love it?
James and Chelsea are the best people on the internet, and have actually good content.
Just Before Dawn (1981)
One of my favorite slasher films
Let's get the bad out of the way first. There is very little gore and a small body count. It also took a little while for people to die. But once it's 30 minutes in, there's already quite a little bit of suspense. The acting was quite good, in fact surprisingly good, and the setting was just stunning. The cinematography and soundtrack definitely help with the terrifying mood. The eerie whistle motif heard throughout was simple and scary. Plus, the opening death was one of the best slasher deaths out there. Overall, it's a scary, well made slasher flick that definitely deserves more attention.
