Extremely realistic
30 May 2022
I'll start by saying Ross Lynch is definitely one of the most promising HW young actors.

His portrayal of the serial killer is so realistic to the point it feels like you're watching a documentary, as if you're looking at someone else's memory and you shouldn't (the same weird feeling you get when watching Hitchcock... unsettling!) . The colours of the film backed the "memory" type of nostalgia. Everything is accentuated, you're looking at a memory.

So, why 7/10?

Ross Lynch is a 10.

The movie felt too much like a documentary and at points it's forgettable. Some elements could have been added, shifting focus from young Dahmer's perception to the perception of those surrounding him and pointing the contrasts might have been one of those.

Also a little more focus on Dahmer's obsessive thoughts and how it feels to be stuck in a weird pattern of imagery/ irrationality at such a young age.

Great acting.

Monsieur, Alexander Vlahos stole the show
7 December 2021
Forget about the sun King Louis XIV, this show introduces us to his eccentric, fabulous, incredibly smart brother often under the shadow of the sun. The actor perfectly delivered the emotional dimension, complexity of the character, and I couldn't help but be a fan. I also ended up searching historical facts about Philippe, what a truly interesting character he was! Alexander Vlahos deserved a grammy for this.

wasted potential

Warning: Spoilers
Like someone else wrote before me never ever have the opening sequence outdo the rest of the movie!

It started great, i liked the characters, beautiful shots, beautiful lights, everything was in place. Then boom, something happened and the film lost itself in the mids of what i can only attribute to director panic! Because it was rushed.

The story had all the elements of a perfect psychological thriller, the ghosts and horror elements were cheap. Many things were never fully developed, for example: the hickey after the "dream", the idea that what happened in the visions had a repercussion in reality was tossed around but never explained. And the questions remains, was it all a psychosis (schizophrenia) or am I supposed to believe she really had visions?? The ending scene was too perfect just like a dream. That makes me think it was all a fantasy. The character goes from a simple quiet life to the middle of chaotic London where she doesn't fit, but she daydreams a lot and boom here she has the visions of this glamorous girl, and she wants to be that glamorous girl because she starts to dress like her, and then the dream turns into a nightmare (her mental state is deteriorating).

In short, it had a LOT of potential but it needed a LOT of PATIENCE to fully piece it together and make a puzzle shutter island style. Instead, they panicked and rushed and went with the most basic idea.

The ending scene gives it away: it is a fantasy. Not only that , the blonde girl is just an alter ego, in the movie the lady didn't die so there cannot be a ghost of her. In the opening scene, the main character takes a taxi and the driver makes some creepy remarks, same with the guys in the club, mirroring the creepiness of the men in the "visions". Also her father is never mentioned, which makes me think it's connected to her mom's suicide.

Anyway, 6/10 because Anya T. Joy is marvellous. That makes it even worse, with such an actress it is a pity not to deliver a great scripts!

much more than an anime
24 November 2021
I used to watch this anime as a child. Of course I enjoyed the fantastic magical part of it, but despite everything I still remember the opening quote: "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

much more than just a cartoon.

This is probably the best telenovela/tv show ever written. Witty, contemporary, never boring, and a feel good story. A masterpiece from Colombia.

I re-watch the episodes with a nice cup of tea under the blanket, it is that good.

very average

If you have nothing else to do then give it a try.

The characters are a cliche, the story is the same old good evil greed narrative, the concept is ok and the cop-brother storyline is just boring.

It reminded me of Gantz! They could have added some elements from the anime and make it better. It would have been a good mix.

Overall, 6/10.

Take your popcorn, your drinks, your chicken wings and enjoy.

Incredibly philosophical, a true gem.

This is one of those series that gets made only once. It's a perfect depiction of the human condition and the soul. Especially the soul. Unforgettable series.

"There is no such place as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing at all. No matter how far you walk, it's just the same road, it just goes on and on. But in spite of that...Why am I so driven to find it?"

This anime has a legacy of its own. It became part a generation's childhood with the series and with the deck cards and video games. It's a 10 for a legendary anime.

Psychological horror
9 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The most curious thing about this movie is the reaction one has after it ends. I immediately despised the cult and thought their ideology was sick and against human values. Then after it ended I started to accept it in a bizarre way, as if they truly lived in another reality (well it's a movie but you get the point) and in their reality this was normal and acceptable. That was the scary part. It went from being an horror to a documentary into the lives of these people. The main character, Dani, slowly slipped into this new distorted version of reality. What made it easier for her was her troubled psyche , she was already lost in many ways and the village was ready to recruit her. They present themselves as her new family and that she now has a place where she belongs and is loved, many new sisters , a new boyfriend etc. It is evil but it slowly becomes acceptable because everyone around her simply accepts it as normal. There is this cult yet the idea can be applied to many other groups. Once an idea becomes acceptable by the majority then it is considered normal , but being normal doesn't mean being righteous.

I also loved the psychological vulnerability of Dani, the girl was trapped, the vain and selfish personality of Christian but selfish(spoilt doesn't equal evil (Pelle). Many hated Christian way more than Pelle , which is very interesting . But if you empathise with the village or at least start viewing their practices as a norm then Pelle is definitely better than Christian.

The movie heavily played on the psychological realm and that beautiful monologue by Pelle with "do you fell at home" resonated with the audience, and it's how cults work. Giving a false sense of belonging yet the lives of the members have no real value to them. It's a psychedelic illusion, a drug that keeps the members enslaved.

Edit : also loved the exercise in empathy shown by the cult when they "shared" the pain of others but again that is fake empathy.

Masterpiece
4 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers.

The main character uses scent to connect with the world. He is an outcast , someone who can't form connections with people or animals or nature, but only perfumes. The character, since the day he was born, was unwanted (born in a poor village and nearly killed by his mother) and a monster (even by his own admission) a creature dressed in human skin. The story has magic realism notes, so keep that in mind.

Throughout the story the character becomes obsessed with creating such a perfect perfume , so perfect that people will adore him and in that adoration(the closest thing he has to feeling something) he can find his place. But it doesn't work, his final product brings out the carnal desire of people, and he in turn finally accepts his condition. He goes back to the place where he was born and lets himself get consumed by people through his own creation(in the end even his own creation was evil). The movie ends in a circle , perfectly poetic.

How to ruin your career

This is ATROCIOUS

stupid writing , bad acting , bad cinematography.

It feels like someone tried to imagine what the new generation is like and they took all the stereotypes and jokes online and said "wooooo u know what? This makes sense" Well NO it doesn't.

EDIT: I'm GenZ and let me tell you, this isn't popular among us. It has nothing to do with generation really, good writing is good writing. So stop using this excuse to justify this waste of money.

A masterpiece
9 July 2021
Where does evil come from? Why do societies turn to extremes to the point they end up losing their humanity? The movie is set before the rise of Nazism and it shows how the seed of evil is planted, how innocent children start to view the world through their parent's eyes and how the circle repeats itself. Fascism is strongly linked to authoritarian upbringing, all themes beautifully depicted in the movie. You can see the seed of evil being planted, how it stops empathy and compassion from developing, how it's viewed as weakness and how isolated in their own "world" the people of the village are.

A true masterpiece.

Overrated
9 May 2021
I came here expecting a masterpiece but it's just the descending into a psychosis of the characters. I loved the angst, desperation, solitude and the search of an illusory "happiness" given by drugs, tv and any addiction in general.

What I deeply disliked was the incompetence of the doctors portrayed in the movie but maybe this is the infamous US system that truly needs some major improvement.

6/10

Excellent performance!!! How beautiful and fragile Jared Leto character was. A lost boy in a merciless reality.

Im being nice here, i'd stop after season 4.

Great potential but not great writers. GRRM hasn't finished the books so it became difficult to keep up with his creative genius.
