Portrayal of the war

The way the characters are written in this movie leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Both of the main characters were on the same level for the entirety of the movie when they were in radically different situations. Nika was defending his home while Ahmed was a paid soldier killing people in a war. The lack of Georgian speaking is a bit frustrating but not colossally important. The cinematography was probably the best aspect of the movie.

I also hated how nothing good ever happened for the Georgians. Nika got pulled out of a collective grave just to be saved and then be verbally abused by a soldier whose country was committing genocide in his homeland. And then got shot and killed in the end anyway saving the bad guy.

Overall it was decent considering this is one of the few Georgian movies which have gotten an Oscar nomination.
