Now that Happy Death Day 2 U is coming out I guess I should do this review of its predecessor Happy Death Day or as I compassionately call it Groundhogs day the slasher. In this Black Comedy slasher we watch sorority sister Tree Gelbman played by Jessica Rothe as she relives her birthday over and over as she continues to be hunted by a killer wearing a baby mask. Many films have done the reliving the day type movies, Groundhogs day arguably the best known but Rom-Com was not going to contain this premise. Action sci fi movie edge of tomorrow featuring Tom Cruise, also has this premise but my favorite so far is Happy Death Day. The movie is just fun, with unique and Throw back kills aplenty in this slasher. An actual character arch other than shy girl becomes badass finds its way in the playful slasher. I enjoyed the arch they choose and feel that Jessica Rothe portrait it very well through the movie. Bringing this premise into horror was a stroke of genius though this film is full of fun and hilarity it is actual quiet smart. The plot is just so smart and executed so well it hides behind this facade of a stupid comedy slasher but turns out to be a murder mystery that keeps you guessing till the end. This Film lets you know early on that it does not take itself seriously nor should you, It makes fun of the horror genre including itself and it's inspiration Groundhogs Day. This movie is a much watch especially for horror fans. I would even use this film as an introduction to the genre for those who are not fans.

This movie was a pleasant surprise , my first impressions after seeing the trailers was this is going to be another cliche creepy kid movie with demon possession, Devilish heritage we have seen a billion times " The Omen", " Rosemary's baby". This one had some twists and interesting plot devices to mess with are regular conception of what this type of film is supposed to be. First off the acting was amazing the boy Miles Blum played by Jackson Robert Scott was spectacular, child actors have always been the crux of Hollywood filmmaking but in this genre so much more pressure on them. Jackson was able to portrait and very above average kid as well as a psychopath that fluctuates in intensity at the right times throughout the movie. The rest of the acting was great but special props to a stand out performance by Jackson. This movie uses a very interesting premise for the supernatural influence on Miles in fact I don't think it's ever been suggested to work this way before, I may be wrong about this but I can't think of any-other movie that works this way. Besides for that much of the film does tend to fall into the cookie cutter creepy kid movie. the subtle homage to other horror films however was nice to see as well. From the gritty and nasty slasherific begging to the artistic visuals that give us that familiar feeling of horrors of the past, this one give us some nostalgia. I did love the ending of this film I am a sucker for this kind of ending I won't give anything away here but I could see a lot of criticism attacking this film because of the ending but I for one love it. If you have kids this movie will hit you a little differently, the beginning will be filled with questions we as parents can understand easily. Are we raising them right?, what can we do to make there life better?. as well of the fear of are children being sick or afflicted or mistreated, these are powerful emotions for us as parents and the audience travels through while watching this film. but the biggest question how far would you go to try and protect and save your child? this movie takes that to an extreme limit but the question remains. This was a fun watch and I hope others give it a chance, I feel horror fans will appreciate this more than regular audiences so if you are a horror fan add this to your list to check out this year. As far as criticism for this movie I do feel there was an opportunity to really change the game for the horror genre that wasn't taken I would explain but it might spoil some things while viewing the movie so I wont and it is a good idea so maybe I will write it myself LOL.

Velvet Buzzsaw is one of the most unique and ambitious horror idea I've seen in awhile. The paranormal slaying artwork was cool and it was filled with people I wanted to see killed. The unfortunate part is that there was no really likable characters, the only one that got close was John Malkovich but there was not enough scenes to save it. The movie is good but I feel it is going to divide horror fans . There are plenty off beautiful scenes and art and I am really trying to figure out why there were so many shots of eyes I am positive I'm missing something from that and that's why I feel it wont be received well. it has a sense of wonder about it and people today don't like that, they want everything force feed. I recommend giving this one a couple viewings on face book and discover. I personally enjoyed the film but it did not do enough to make a great horror just a good one.

Every M.Night film I see I am always scared; not by the movie but on if he is going to ruin a great premise with another stupid twist. This one was not one of those bombs we have seen in the past. The big twist in this actually fits the film well. The visuals and sound create a very unique ambiance to this rather unique gritty and realistic super hero movie. The main three did a great job acting even Bruce Willis was good. But Mcavoy is a superhuman His ability to transform through several personalities each with its own quirks, body language, voice right down to vocal cadence and they do this several times with no place to cut in between. this guy is an acting beast and deserve recognition from the academy though this film is not an Oscar contender his performance is. Great film superior cast and M.Night didn't screw it up what a great way to start the year.

The acting is superb it was shot perfectly. This move sucked me in and I enjoyed the ride. Great way to rediscover Queen or to fall in love with them for the first time. The actual screen play I enjoyed The few things that were changed from factual were all great choices and I approve Can't wait to buy this on blu-ray.
