Batman Forever (1995)
Fantastic Flick!
Joel Schumacher does a fabulous job at crafting a smart, creative and engaging film that perfectly captures the sliver age of Batman comics. Jim Carry is delightfully devilish as the manic riddler. He is a thrill to watch. He gives his all into the role and presents a new dimension to the character that is the Riddler. Carry makes a great advisory to Val Kilmer's Batman. As for Kilmer he gives us a fresh perspective on Bruce Wayne and the capped crusader. The mysterious vail that Kilmer wears promotes intrigue the likes to which no other strong chin actor has yet to replicate. This film is aware of what it's supposed to be. It's a commercial big budget comic book action flick. It's something safe for Warner bros to sell burgers and action figures. Schumacher knows that's what the studio wanted, a safe cash cow. And that's what he gave them right? This motion picture has layers to it. On the surface it might look like a silly kid friendly cartoon picture, but if your willing to peel back just a little, you might find a tale about two mens struggles to become someone who never was, in a land where humanity's intelligence is stripped away, given up all for there desire to be entertained. I know I might be in the minority when I say this but this is quite possibly the best if not the best Batman movie. I loved it was it always perfect? No it had some missed steps such as the relationship between Riddler and two face(Tommy Lee Jones). It could have worked a lot better if Jones wasn't trying to out due Carry. His performance would work for me but only if he didn't have Carry to compete with. I'd recommend watching it see if you gleam anything from this campy masterpiece I know I have.
