BEST. MOVIE. EVER.
When I say that this is the best movie ever, I don't say it lightly. Everything in this movie is well done, polished, and extremely moving. I can't say that I've ever been so emotionally affected by a scene in a movie like the way I was with Yondu's death scene at the end. That scene alone is worth watching the whole movie.
I'm so glad James Gunn gets to do Vol. 3. We are all blessed for that.
Dark Phoenix (2019)
A Dissapointing End
I have only recently come to watch the X-Men films. After watching most of the films from the MCU, I was always very skeptical about these since they were kind of considered to be the "other side" of Marvel, and not in a good way. It was Marvel, but it was really Fox. All of that aside, I finally decided to watch the first three and found them to be enjoyable, but for different reasons than the MCU. I like the fact that the X-Men tackles the dirty, less presentable side of a world where superheroes and mutants aren't as well known or accepted, and, as a result, aren't idolized like the Avengers. It was this socio-political struggle that captivated me. I liked the angle.
Dark Phoenix throws all of that away like it's an empty wrapper. The ultra-cool comic book storyline of Dark Phoenix? Not there. The story arcs for characters like Raven and Beast? Barely mentioned. The epic contrasts between Magneto and Xavier as they continue to wage the same war from different angles? Nope, it's gone too. What we're left with isn't a film that feels like it's trying to do too much, but a file that feels like it's done nothing at all.
The acting is still great, the heroes are still cool, but the film has no vibe. At least not the same one that made me enjoy the first three. I'm sorry, but the only thing I enjoyed about this movie was the fact that they gave the dog actor credit at the end. It's a classic example of a film that tries to make a big ending statement, but falls flat on it's face while doing so.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Good, but short
This is one of the better movies that I have seen, it's just a little too short. Which, in turn, makes it slightly disappointing.
