When Maximilian does not arrive at their predetermined meeting place, Viki thinks the worse, believing that he was too cowardly to tell her the truth. After World War I ends, Viki becomes a stage star, while Maximilian is reduced to being a simple shoe salesman. Maximilian goes to Viki and proclaims his love once more, but she, still hurt by his desertion for the countess, spurs him. Maximilian, with a song from his heart, manages to win her back, and the couple is finally reunited.

There she meets Captain Davidson, the master of a trading schooner, stows away on his ship and begs him to take her to Singapore. In the slow lazy cruise, Davidson falls under the spell of Laughing Anne and begs her to marry him, but she has learned from him an old forgotten sense of loyalty, jumps ship at Singapore and makes her way back to the blowzy, forlorn life with Farrell. Years later, Davidson meets her again when an unusual cargo takes him to a strange lonely, hot-and-steamy jungle settlement; the Woman with the Laugh has sunk in squalor and, although she is still with Farrell, she has a little boy named Davy with her. Davidson's heart and mind leap back to the rapture of that Archipelago cruise and he tells Annie he will take her and Davy away with him. But Farrell has heard of Davidson's rich cargo and plans to seize it.

- The Blue Danube is a 1932 British romance film directed by Herbert Wilcox and starring Brigitte Helm, Joseph Schildkraut and Desmond Jeans. Its plot, based on a short story by Doris Zinkeisen, concerns a Hungarian gypsy who leaves his girlfriend for a countess, but soon begins to suffer heartache. The film was made in both English and German-language versions.
- Trouble is brewing in the banana republic of Bianco for both His Excellency, El Presidente, and the British Consul, Brant. Rebels, led by Diego De Costa, the trusted "Minister of the Marines and the Customs" and Lieutenant Enricquo, the gunnery officer of the small republic's one battleship, have taken over the battleship, and the town. Most of the British citizens have taken refuge at the Consulate or have been evacuated to the small cruiser in Bianco's port, the "H. M. S. Audacious." But there are two major issues; the Consul's daughter, Pamela, and Canadian Lieutenant Bill Armstrong have been kidnapped by the rebels and now held hostage on the battleship "El Mirante," and El Presidente was visiting the consulate when the war broke out and is now under the protective custody of the British Empire. De Costa informs the "Audacious" commander, Captain Markham, that if El Presidete is not turned over to the rebels in six hours, the 15-inch guns of the battleship will blow the Consulate itself to bits. Markham, who can not fire first as the aggressor and is out-gunned anyway, is, with only his six-inch guns, in a bit of a sticky-wicket mess. Or, in the words of El Presidente: "Death she as light as one leetle feather...Duty she as heavy...."

The night of the dinner party, Nicholas' wife Clary becomes so upset with Nicholas' treatment of the family dog that she goes home to her mother. Nicholas explains the situation to his loyal secretary, Anne Weber, and convinces her to impersonate his wife for the evening. Mr. Brown immediately falls in love with Anne, though he can say nothing because he thinks she is Nicholas' wife. Clary comes home during the dinner and, realizing what is happening, pretends to be Anne. The group goes to a nightclub, where the wine gets the best of Mr. Brown. In the end, Nicholas reveals the truth, and gets both the partnership and his wife back. Anne, not to be left out, becomes Mrs. Brown.
