- A photographer moves her family into a strange old house, where she discovers an alternate reality reflected in the glass... A dark reality that is closing in on her.
- Dr. Reineger is a child neuro-psychologist who has become confident that the twin Anna has a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome, rendering her unable to cope with reality. As for her blind sister, Sarah, the Doctor cannot say for sure why her visions map so closely to Anna's. At home, their father leaves the family. To escape the pain, the girls sink deeper and deeper into their imaginations. When a major earthquake takes their mother's life, Reineger is left with helping the now-orphaned twins cope, while at the same time dealing with his own struggle concerning the girls' prophetic visions. The girls escape the institution. The subsequent search party can't track them. Have they indeed transcended the physical realm?
- J.R. Collier, once the world's greatest race driver, is losing his family because he can't get racing out of his blood. His scheme to "go legit" by acquiring and reselling exotic cars -- cars he acquires by suckering the owners into racing for the pink slip -- runs afoul of the bad guys when he wins one car that has something in it that they will kill for.
- Traveling from morning to night, "Sandcastles" chronicles a day in the life of a construction worker named Getz. Getz wakes up alongside a highway. His wallet and cell-phone are missing. With no recollection of the previous night, he returns home. On his answering machine he finds a message from himself...to himself: "I called you out of work today." For a laborer who's devoted his entire, lonely life to his work and has, for years, worked seven-day weeks, this is a first. And with his routine disrupted, Getz can't help but puzzle over the riddle of his self-excused absence. All he knows is that it has something to do with Karina, whom he met at a bookstore months earlier, and Virgil, whom he's never heard of, but whose name now appears on his cell-phone's greeting.
- When you can't let go of a relationship after it's over, you sweep it into the closet.
- Life gets turned upside down for Kimberee and Aimee Fung when their father decides to leave his well-paying corporate executive job in San Francisco and move the family to Bakersfield to live with their grandparents and help out with the family business, a massage parlor called "Touch of the Orient." If the social pressure of starting a new high school in the middle of the school year wasn't enough, Kimberlee and Aimee are only two of a handful of Asian American kids at North High. They are constantly challenged by having to make choices that ultimately affect how their peers perceive them as they try to find acceptance.
