Denise asks for a prescription for epilepsy drugs for her daughters and Helen writes her one without checking the family history. Nicky objects which starts a rift between her and Alastair. Nicky gets the family history and talks with their old doctor and finds that they had suggested reducing the medication. Denise refuses until Gil intervenes and gets them all to go to get a review of medication. Elsewhere, Louise and William restart their relationship in Louise's new apartment above Gabrielle's shop which angers Ross. Louise and Ross eventually agree that they sell the house and split the money received. William apologizes to Diane about the adopted baby controversy.
- Dana visits her pregnant friend where she finds her other child dead in his crib. Dana is torn about breaching confidentiality and is relieved when William shoulders the burden. Louise has made a decision but will it be William or Ross?
- Nicky has her first date with Kieran which is met with some resistance from Cliff. Sascha is caught with Gus and asks Nicky not to say anything which puts her in a patient/doctor privilege dilemma.
- An article entitled "The Stolen Children" is published and it doesn't make life easy for William, especially during the Gilbert & Sullivan operatic show. Enid refuses to go to Arthur's funeral and eventually ends up telling Alastair the full story of what happened. William gives Alastair the paperwork on his birth after Alastair tells William he plans to stay around instead of moving to Germany. Amanda believe that Kieran knows about her tryst with Alastair and Ross tells Louise he knew about her sleeping with William. Kieran tells Nicky that he has moved out of his home after Amanda accused Nicky of telling Kieran about her and Alastair. Kieran asks if they could ever be together and Nicky tells him she'd never have the normal life she craves with him.
- Alastair and Nicky's relationship becomes frosty as well as his relationship with his father because of his adoption. Arthur is having trouble with his breathing and is admitted to hospital. Nicky and Cliff go to Kieran and Amanda's for dinner and are joined by Alastair. But it doesn't go well as Cliff finds out from Keiran that Nicky slept with Kieran before him and leaves the party. Amanda and Alastair have sex in the kitchens after the party breaks up as Kieran seeks out Nicky. William tells Louise the circumstances of Alastair's birth and adoption. Cliff shows up at Nicky's home later that night and she tells him she will never sleep with Kieran again which reassures Cliff.
- Nicky gets an invitation to Chook and Lynda's wedding but when she realises that the relationship is violent, Nicky encourages Lynda to think about the relationship. Enid gets a nasty fright when she finds an intruder in her home.
- In order to avoid people William goes out early playing golf and encounters his accountant Ian Enderby. Through much probing William learns that Ian owes over 3 million to the Inland Revenue and is adamant he is going to take his own life at the 18th hole. As they reach the 18th hole and no sign of William being able to talk Ian out of his course of action William takes matters into his own hands to stop him. Meanwhile, Wayne is hospitalised but Nicky cannot find out what caused him to collapse and whilst there he meets Lydia from the Inland Revenue who has been in a car accident on her way to meet Ian Enderby.
- Mike Malloy causes a stir when he admits to Dana, after she asks him to babysit Jordan, that he cannot be near kids because he was in jail previously was assaulting three young boys. The news spreads like wildfire igniting outrage amongst the townspeople except for William who takes pity on him. Meanwhile, Gabrielle decides she wants to be a mother and firstly tries to get Nicky to get her to a sperm donation bank and then she asks Kieran to be the father, which he refuses. Kieran tells Nicky that he's not over her and what he feels for her is very strong.
- Nicky is annoyed to find that everyone at the local marae thinks she and Cliff are a couple. She agrees to go on a date with him but it doesn't end well as he fears he is second best to Kieran. The TV that he borrowed from the pub also gets stolen. Louise gets the blame for the budget over-run and takes her frustration out on Nicky. Todd's violent brother Cornell escapes from prison and kidnaps Ken stabbing him in the stomach with a screwdriver.
- Amanda and Alastair continue their affair as Amanda fights Kieran for everything he's got. However, Amanda is not pleased that Kieran isn't fighting her back and giving in which causes severe tension in the Macefield home and ends up causing Sascha to go on a drink bender at a party. After Kieran sees what the divorce is doing to his kids he decides to fight and offers her 60/40 of the property and joint custody. Amanda decides to move to Auckland with Taylor and as she prepares to leave she tells Nicky what she thinks of her. As a parting gesture to Kieran she torches his new vineyard and leaves Alastair to wait at their motel room. Elsewhere, Ken asks Dana out on their first date together but it doesn't work out very well as he's called to an emergency rescue of a toddler and subsequent tries at dates always end with an emergency.
- Cliff continues to push Nicky into a more permanent commitment but she is very wary. This escalates when she is attacked and robbed of her car, purse and drugs bag. She immediately believes that the culprit is Henry Chadwick which causes rifts between her and Cliff leading them to eventually break up.
- Nicky is called to an emergency at Bassett High where a young girl is in labour. Despite limited experience, Nicky delivers the baby and also meets the local midwife Rhonda, who doubles as Bassett's hairdresser.
- A quiet Sunday. Nicky is washing her hair, William and Alistair are playing golf, Louise and Ross are off to an anniversary lunch, but when Ken gives chase to a speeding sedan everything changes.
- William and Alastair continue to be at loggerheads and Alastair tells him he is thinking of going back to Germany. Alastair admits Arthur to Pemberley Rest Home telling Enid it is only until his chest infection clears but Enid removes him because she doesn't like the way they treat him there. Nicky and William clash over her patient John and Alastair finds out that his mother committed suicide before she ever saw him. Todd continues to live in squalor and upsets Dana with his attitude. Enid and Arthur take an overdose of Arthur's medication so that they can be together but Gus discovers them and manages to get to Enid on time but Arthur has passed on.
- Louise discovers that William has become involved with Sue Lansford and is none too pleased. Gabrielle goes missing sending Ken, Rhonda and Nicky in search of her. Cliff searches for a missing Maori teenager.
- Cliff scoffs at Nicky's belief in tragic love and also suggest that being European she lacks a spiritual connection. They witness a fight between two women and Nicky finds one has a raft of medical problems.
- When Alistair sees a man bullying his son he wants to intervene and also feels anger towards his own father. Since he's twigged about William's affair with Louise he feels he was dragged back to Bassett under false pretences.
- Gil is in the process of turning out the Bassett operatic society's version of Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Patience', one of the only operas yet to be performed. His mother is in hospital and wants to undergo an operation to relieve pain caused by a tumor in her colon but Gil doesn't want her to go ahead fearing that it will kill her. Kieran goes to great lengths to get the painting of Nicky back and eventually they end up sleeping together. The next day Nicky tells Kieran they cannot continue with their affair as long as he is married. Kieran tells Nicky he loves her but she walks away.
- Ken's prized toy collection is stolen from his home when he is away judging the Radford House senior speech competition. Ken is sure the suspect is Todd and gets a warrant to check Todd's house but finds nothing. Meanwhile, Grace Stringer, the winner of the Radford House senior speech competition, becomes obsessed with Nicky.
- Alistair decides to declare his feelings for Nicky after discovering that she has started a relationship with Cliff and Dana gets more than she bargained for after helping Ken in his recuperation. Nicky discovers Diane Peach's painful secret after her young pregnant daughter is brought into Mercy Peak - that she gave birth at 15 to a Downs Syndrome daughter. She asks Nicky to find out what happened to her. Nicky finds old records and finds that Diane's baby was not born with Downs Syndrome but adopted out by Diane's parents. Nicky and Cliff decide to investigate other cases and believe Gil's mother Matron Crouch was responsible but before they question her she dies in her sleep. She approaches William about his signature on some of the files and finds out that Alastair was also adopted in the same fashion as Diane's baby.
- William is not coping well with the end of his relationship with Louise and begins to stalk her. Enid is admitted with complications from diabetes and an ulcer. Nicky has some time off and trying to keep her life simple concentrates on yoga but ends up getting posing for artist Gabrielle - a painting that is later bought by Kieran.
- Nicky and Cliff nearly come to blows after she refuses to tow the line with Manu Bishop until she finds out from Dana that Cliff is being groomed to take over from Manu. Lynda Bracey makes a complaint about William and on top of him missing the symptoms of a heart-attack he tells Louise he's thinking about leaving. Louise tells Ross that she's pregnant and at Liam's going away party he announces it to everyone there but Louise isn't happy that he did it so publicly.
