- October 1980. Michel Colucci, better known as Coluche, is the French people's favorite comedian. He performs every night to a packed house at the Théâtre du Gymnase. One day, always inclined to go too far, Coluche announces - for laughs - his candidacy for the 1981 French presidential elections. Looked down upon by the professionals of politics, he is soon supported by French voters, who always love when a clown thumbs his nose at the mighty. In a poll published in December, he is even credited with 16% of voting intentions...
- When the party's official candidate, suffering from cancer, is forced to resign, Michel Dedieu is named to replace him at the last minute. Michel is to be confronted very shortly with his opponent at a TV debate and as he is little known, his campaign committee decides to coach him in a TV studio reproduced in his own home. Michel complies reluctantly. Worse he has a row with his wife, who disappears after having shaken off her bodyguard. The atmosphere is so tense that Dedieu suddenly feels unwell. He is stunned when the doctor he consults tells him he strongly doubts the former candidate really has cancer. Is the new candidate being manipulated then, notably by Georges, the crafty party strategist? Anyway, Michel Dedieu is not going to be anybody's fool ...
- A 10 year old girl lives in post WWII rural France with her parents, who are about to divorce. Her older sister leaves home to finish school, and the young girl is left with a mysterious, almost silent housekeeper. Being afraid of the dark, and of other "phenomenoms" including a haunted château nearby, she curiously accepts a stranger she finds in her mansion's barn. This fact contradicts her fearful nature, but fulfills her loneliness. The stranger has run away from a nearby psychiatric clinic, where her father was treating the stranger. She hides the stranger, protects him, and he becomes her best friend. Is this girl searching for true companionship, coming of age, or is she asserting her independence for the first time in her short life?
