- During the Revolution Princess Vera, though betrothed to Prince Dimitri, is attracted to the peasant Feodor.
- In Germany, young Marie Louise's foster parents commit suicide rather than face charges of treason. Marie emigrates to the US, but when she gets there she is met with contempt and suspicion because of her German nationality. She meets Davidge, who owns a shipbuilding company, and persuades him to get her a job in his shipyards, so she can prove her dedication to the war effort. One day at work she is approached by a man named Verrinder, who is in actuality a German spy. He and some fellow spies are planning to sabotage the shipyards and want Marie to help them.
- Kalora is the "slim princess of Morevana," a land in which fat is prized. This distresses her family, who must marry off Kalora, before her rotund younger sister Papova may wed. To remedy this situation, Kalora's father, the governor general, throws a garden party and disguises his slim daughter in an inflated rubber suit. All goes well until the suit ruptures, deflating Kalora to her normal size. Soon after, she meets Pike, an American, and falls in love. Upon hearing of a cure for slimness in America, the governor sends Kalora overseas where she meets Pike again. He follows her home to Morevana, and once it is discovered that he is wealthy, the governor offers the American his prized daughter Papova, only to discover that it is the slim princess whom Pike treasures.

When Annabel laughs at Willy St. John's overtures to her because of his lack of athletic prowess, Willy hires boxer Captain Buck Nelson to teach him self-defense. Both men are invited to accompany the Cottons on a yachting trip during which Nelson physically attacks Annabel. After Nelson chases her up the ship's rigging, forcing her to perform a high dive into the sea, and struggles with her underwater, Willy finally intercedes, fighting off both Nelson as well as the crew to rescue his love. Thus satisfied with Willy's physical abilities, Annabel awards him her love.

On his mission, he meets Patricia Melton, who introduces herself as a French Secret Service agent also in search of the diamond. Plunkett is in love with Olga Karakoff, daughter of a wealthy jeweler, and he soon comes to suspect that Olga's father is in league with the smugglers. However, Patricia is the true impostor, and after she discovers that the jewel is encased in a locket worn around Olga's neck, she captures Olga and the diamond. Plunkett comes to the rescue and wins both Olga and a large reward for recovering the jewel.
- Slim Cody works in the movie industry, doubling for the performers. He has a dream in which he portrays Romeo in a movie version of "Romeo and Juliet, " and arranges for someone to double for him when the fight scenes get scary.

The mother dreams that the train on which her son is returning is imperiled by a wrecked bridge, and when she awakens, terrified, Tom arrives with his brothers and sisters to announce that he has been appointed Attorney General of the United States.
- A beautiful but timid young woman named Marcia comes to a backwoods logging camp, where she is wooed and won by a young city boy, Fosdick. Marcia is put off by the gruffness of the camp's foreman, Barnes, but soon learns that Fosdick is a coward whose sole determination is self-preservation at all costs, and she begins to see that foreman Barnes is the better catch.
- Jerry Wendover, disfigured since childhood after his act of heroism in saving a little girl from a fire scarred his face, secludes himself in an old house in the Backwater district of Florida. One night he finds Barbara Seaforth, a young blind girl, lost in the swamps and takes her home. The two unfortunates fall in love, marry, and have a child. One day, a visiting doctor tells Jerry that Barbara's sight can be restored. The operation is performed successfully, but the doctor warns his patient to shield her eyes from the light or risk reversal of the surgery. Barbara, realizing her husband's dread of exposing his disfigurement to her, looks at her child and then permanently blinds herself by staring into the light, thus sacrificing her sight for the love of her husband.
- Oil is discovered on the Countess de Elberca's estate in a mythical Spanish American country. Mercedes McDonald, her niece, falls in love with Sandy Buchanan, a young Scotch engineer hired by the countess. Don Felipe, a neighbor in need of money to avoid arrest for embezzlement, conspires with his nephew, the Duke of Othomo, for the latter to wed Mercedes. The aunt approves the suit. Felipe and Othomo attempt to kill Mercedes' sweetheart, but Buchanan, with the aid of her brother and a traveling American circus, foils their plans. Felipe and Othomo are killed by the circus animals, and the aunt consents to Mercedes' marriage to Buchanan.
- A cowboy and a wild horse find they have some things in common: both have enemies out to get them and both must save their mates from danger.
- Letty Shell, a clerk in a London brokerage office, is discouraged by her lack of fine clothes and social position. She becomes infatuated with Nevill Letchmere, a debonair idler from a good family, and believes that he wants to marry her, but after her boss, Bernard Mandeville, who has risen to power and wealth, and who wants to marry Letty, warns Letchmere to keep away from her, Letchmere confesses that he is married. Disappointed, Letty accepts Mandeville's proposal, but when she sees Mandeville's boorishness in a restaurant, she returns to Letchmere. Just as she is about to become his mistress, Letchmere receives word that his married sister has eloped with a lover. When he curses his sister for acting like a "shop girl," Letty realizes that he views her and her class without respect. She leaves and accepts the love of her faithful friend Richard Perry, a poor photographer, whose rich uncle is going to help him in business.
