- Awake for a Moment is a dark, tragic feature film surrounding four lives as they spiral out of control. It is a highly visual film that relies on subtle acting performances to create a piece that is both operatic and poetic. It is based in four very different worlds, being tied together with the central theme of desperately seeking redemption in something that cannot save you, resonant of Grecian and Shakespearean tragedies, reflective of its inspirational roots in Ovid's Metamorphoses. Each character is in a deep state of torment and their efforts to save themselves only bury themselves deeper. Emma is a dancer whose insecurities, obsession with image and the oppression of a male partner lead her down a slippery slope. Angela is a single mother whose idolatry of her daughter prevents her from truly loving her properly and their relationship is put to the test when times get tough. Evan is suffering the loss of his father and finds solace in the vibrant May, but her secrets could get the best of him. James is an intellectual artist whose perfectionism and narcissism cause him to get lost in his own imagination. This is an independent film by Urchin Productions with an entire cast and crew working for free to bring this vision to life.
