- Follows Casey and Jonas, two teenagers desperate to escape their broken and abusive homes and examines the desperation of life on the run and the beauty of first love.
- Romantic drama centered around "Dear Viola," a small-town newspaper advice column.
- Rainer and Patricia move to Malta to reinvigorate their marriage after the loss of their child.
- Wolfgang has just returned to Vancouver after a stint in Hong Kong, where he covertly passed along some information to one of his operatives, and learned that there may be a regime change in the Red Mountain triad. The whereabouts of the current head, General Wu, is unknown, Wolfgang believing that he has long been hiding in Vancouver. Wolfgang passes some of this information in a debrief to Al, who in turn tells Wolfgang of a new person of interest, a Mexican prosecutor who is seeking sanctuary at a local church. They do not know why he is a person of interest. They are also unaware that a young woman named Eva, who is court mandated doing community service at the church, could play an importation part of what happens in this file. Without her knowledge of the reason, Wolfgang gets Kelly to help him in this matter, she who is desperate for any research that she could add to her list of publications, which have been few and far between of late. In their discussion, Al doesn't divulge some information to Wolfgang, who Al's superiors are concerned about being too uncontrolled and unsupervised in his work. One of Wolfgang's local Romeos, Rufus, is struggling under the strain of the work. His mark, Dee, is falling in love with him and is thinking about leaving her husband Vince, who is the reason Rufus started seeing her. Wolfgang asks Rufus to see the current issue through, namely to go along in name only with a request by Dee in response to a request Vince makes to Rufus. Through all these problems, Wolfgang meets a new associate at the university, Lily Song, who may take his mind off of his covert work.
- Wolfgang may have found a new recruit, while an agent has been arrested overseas and Dee gives Rufus a gift.
- Wolfgang is peeved at Al for not protecting him against their highers-up, as Al tells him it is ill advised not to attend an "interview" with one of those highers-up, probably about what Wolfgang knows about the Gascoynes and if he did indeed meet with Martha on his recent trip to Hong Kong. That meeting in Hong Kong is something that Wolfgang has vehemently denied up to this point, that denial which may be increasingly difficult to maintain as a story. Wolfgang provides Eva with greater direction on her surveillance at the church, that direction which may be increasingly more dangerous, especially if Eva's assertion that the "organ lady" being suspicious is indeed fact. In the process, Eva and Miguel to begin to form a bond. Conversely, Wolfgang comes down on Rufus for not providing enough information. Something that Rufus has not divulged to Wolfgang is the dead body, which is more difficult to dispose of than he would like. On this file, Dee steps up her actions in ensuring that she takes over the business, while General Wu sets up a meeting between Wing Lei and Vince in that transfer of power. Through these goings-on, Wolfgang and Lily become closer.
- Wolfgang tries to find out more about the whereabouts of General Wu from a wannabe big time player, who may face negative consequences if he can't deliver for Wolfgang. Wolfgang places more pressure of Eva for information on Miguel as they have to make a decision quickly if he is worth their time and effort. He also confides in Helen that his association with Lily is not just personal. Helen reminds him of Martha Gascoyne's current tenuous situation, and warns him that Lily may not have come into his life as accidentally as he may believe. A shipment is coming into port which in Wing Lei and Vince's new partnership Rufus plays a key role in ensuring that they have a port worker in their back pocket just in case. But there may be some other unforeseen issues. Rufus also asks Wolfgang for advice on how he and Vince should deal with the increasingly problematic issue of Dee. Rufus has to be careful for his own safety if the plan does does come off accordingly with Wolfgang unable to help him if the law comes into play. And General Wu makes a surprise decision which doesn't sit well with Wing Lei.
- Getting him out of detention, Wolfgang places Tony Zhao on a short leash in trying to find out more information on the goings-on of the Red Mountain triad locally. In spending more time with Lily, Wolfgang learns more about the benefits of her becoming one of his assets, but may also discover in the process that Helen's assertion is correct in that Lily did not enter his life accidentally. Wolfgang also pressures Eva into setting up a meeting with Miguel. This places Eva in a difficult spot as she is torn between her paid duties to Wolfgang and her feelings for what is best for Miguel. Miguel learns from Ortelli the status of his sanctuary request with the church. Al learns just how important Miguel is to some in a deal offered to him. Dee has settled uncomfortably into rehab, where she tries to get a message to the outside world despite being denied telephone privileges for the first week. With Dee in rehab, Rufus is feeling the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders if only temporarily. He can now focus on the issue at hand, namely that the container at the docks with the latest shipment is being monitored by unknown sources. Wing Lei issues an ultimatum in that they get the container or else their partnership is off, against Vince's advice that they may be better off taking their losses on this shipment by just abandoning it. Rufus' involvement and his life may be threatened as Vince gets closer to finding out about his extracurricular activities with Dee.
- Because of the attempt on his life which he believes was orchestrated by the Mexican drug cartel, Miguel is on the run with Eva, he who also believes he will not make it out of this situation in Canada alive. He is now willing to speak to Wolfgang, which Eva is able to arrange. Where to meet where they will be safe becomes an issue, especially after Wolfgang learns that Al has made a deal with Foy to trade the Gascoynes for Miguel. Through this situation, Eva's role become less important. While Miguel and Wolfgang may want to see Eva leave if only for her own safety, she may have thoughts of her own on the matter. Rufus feels more and more like he is being pushed in directions he doesn't want, and never signed up for when he agreed to work for Wolfgang. With dissent within the ranks, those rank and file want him to take out and replace Vince. And he always gets the feeling that Wing Lei has a more dangerous side he has not yet seen, that dangerous side which could mean his life. Rufus comes to conclusions about how he will handle these situations, until Wolfgang, upon being debriefed by Rufus, discovers some information which could be a game changer for what is best for Rufus and for his usefulness as a Romeo. Wolfgang and Lily's relationship is going strong on the surface, while Lily begins to delve deeper into Wolfgang's life, which is affected by a letter she receives, and Wolfgang knows that he is being "watched". And General Wu learns that he will probably be sent to a palliative care hospital in the city, the news which he sees more as an opportunity.
- With Wolfgang and Rufus' belief that Vince is working as an informer for the DEA, they each have their own thoughts of how best to proceed for their own interest. On Rufus' side, his plan includes both Wing Lei and Dee, the latter who may be truly clean and ready to leave rehab. Wolfgang and Lily continue to play each other. One of the two may have the upper hand in their manoeuvrings. Miguel and Dee continue to hole up in Wolfgang's cabin hideout while they await word from Wolfgang on when to proceed on whatever the next step. In the meantime, Wolfgang has a chat with Fred to discuss what the swap of Miguel for the Gascoynes actually means in a practical sense, Wolfgang who is concerned for Miguel's safety once he's out of his hands. And General Wu has been transferred to the hospital, where he slowly puts together the pieces of his plan.
- With further confirmed information about Vince and the DEA, Wolfgang and Rufus continue to disagree about if Rufus should abandon the mission to get the drugs from the container, Rufus who believes he and his team can still get in and out before Vince has any idea what's going on. Wolfgang knows he cannot stop Rufus if he is determined to proceed, with Rufus aware that Wolfgang cannot protect him if things go south. For Rufus' plan to work, there can be no surprises, and he needs Dee's support to keep Vince occupied, which is still iffy seeing that she has just voluntarily concluded her stint in rehab. Meanwhile, Foy has Eva hostage, she who he is willing to exchange for a still missing Miguel. If Wolfgang is able to locate Miguel who still trusts him, he has to decide how to proceed if he has to give up one of Miguel or Eva. And Lily visits her father for the first time in a long time.
- Now that Rufus and his gang have managed to get the drugs out of the container, the maneuvering of the players involved ratchets up a notch. Vince, who knows he's between a rock and a hard place, has to figure out how best to deal with Rufus and Wing Lei on one side and the DEA on the other. In Rufus being able to pull off this task, he feels abandoned by Wolfgang, who can't offer him protection, and as such Rufus contemplates breaking ties with him. Dee has her own thoughts about what to do. A surprise visit from a person from her recent past may complicate matters. Lily decides on the surface to follow Wolfgang's advice to meet with "underground" officials. As Lily continues to play Wolfgang, he in turn gets Helen's advice on Lily's usefulness. Fred continues to hold Eva hostage, trying to convince her to work for him which would give her access to Miguel. Miguel, still in contact with Wolfgang, may now have reason to come in to talk to Fred. General Wu continues his plans to escape, while Tony provides some intel to Wolfgang on where General Wu is hiding. And Al continues to try and find out from reliable sources what Wolfgang is truly up to.
- With Vince's murder, Rufus and Wing Lei plot their next move in shipping the drugs across the border. They require Dee's help, she who may have her own ideas of how best to protect herself in light of the murder. Rufus may also be unaware that Rick Frost's murder may come back to haunt him, even if he had nothing to do with it besides dispose of the body which was planted on him. As Lily knows that Wolfgang knows about her, and as Wolfgang knows that Lily knows about him, they have to decide if they will come totally clean and above board with each other. Wolfgang may burn some bridges in the process. General Wu manages to get his hands in all the above. Wolfgang also wants to meet with a released Martha Gascoyne, which may be more difficult than he would like. And Miguel agrees to a a trade of him for Eva, only on the condition that he have a chance to talk to her before they part ways.
- An old colleague working unofficially for the current government asks Wolfgang to work on a case. The previous government had peddled the notion of combining all border and customs services under one umbrella agency, something that the current government has quashed. However, some of those forces from the previous government are trying to resurrect the idea, the agent now tasked with gathering ammunition to battle the idea. The previous government had used a bomb threat at the local baseball stadium eighteen months ago as a case to support the umbrella agency, the bomb threat billed as a terrorist threat. However, the current government believes that the former government may have been complicit in that threat to support the umbrella agency. Wolfgang decides to call in an old asset to work the file for him, that asset being a man named Norman. Beyond briefing Norman on the case, Wolfgang may have to hold his hands in more ways than one as Norman has a weakness for flamboyant young men, and substances of different kinds, both which got him into trouble in the past. Meanwhile, with Vince's death, Rufus has moved to the top of the food chain in the partnership with the Red Mountain Triad. As Tony is now working on the movie with many of the Red Mountain associates involved, such as lead actress Mei Mei, and requires financing, it is now incumbent on Rufus to move the drugs so that those working on the movie can get paid. Tony suggests an old associate named Bennie as a dealer who may want some of the drugs. Rufus has to draw a fine line in moving the product, while figuring out how to maximize profit. But being the illicit drug trade, many things can potentially go awry. And Al and Sproule have a negotiation of sorts regarding their professional association with Lily Song. Al, who is irked by what looks to be Sproule's imminent promotion, believes he has a way to use Lily to his advantage in the matter.
- Wolfgang and Norman continue their investigation into the handling of the supposed jihadi bomb threat that led to the death of Khalil Mustafa, the young Muslim man carrying the explosive. Norman is certain Wolfgang's mugging has something to do with they investigating the case, something Wolfgang doesn't believe. But as they talk to people involved, many inconsistencies in the stories arise, some which they know are outright lies. Beyond wading through the stories to catch the lies that are said on purpose, they have find the holes in the stories to discover what some may believe to be the truth but aren't. In the end, Wolfgang may come a little closer to Norman's belief that there was a deep conspiracy orchestrated at the highest levels of authority. Meanwhile, Rufus has to take some control of the distribution of the drugs with Bennie's death. Some of Bennie's operatives, most specifically Shorts, don't fully trust Rufus, while Lana has to decide if she believes Rufus is telling the truth in that he had nothing to do with Bennie's murder. This transition phase in Bennie's operation is not a smooth one, especially when it comes to the flow of cash. This causes somewhat of a problem with the movie shoot, as some of the crew have yet to be paid. To ensure her own future security, Mei decides to take some control of the situation. Elsewhere, one of Fergie's most reliable snitches has landed himself in the morgue, with Wolfgang providing some assistance in filling that gap for Fergie. And Lily begins her double dealing with Al and Sproule, she having to decide where her allegiances lie in the competing stories told to her by each.
- Norman starts piecing together all the connections in the puzzle which he and Wolfgang know is a conspiracy of some sort, as Khalil Mustafa was not just a young jihadi intent on detonating an explosive in a public place. Beyond Wolfgang wanting Norman to continue to work on Sonya who he believes will ultimately provide some useful information whenever she is in a more continual lucid state, they begin to look into Mustafa as a person, an area which they have largely left unexplored so far, such as speaking with his mother. In the process of their talks with people, Wolfgang and Norman may have stumbled onto a major lead when one of the players admits to knowing that they are not "the insurance people" as they are portraying themselves to be and knowing more than what appears on the surface, those specifics which the person will not divulge until a deal is made for immunity. Meanwhile, Fergie makes his initial contact with Rufus, who outwardly does not take too favorably to being a snitch for someone else. Rufus also discovers that he may have run into problems in dealings with one of Bennie's old associates, Andre, to who Bennie purportedly owed $40,000. Through their new business arrangement, Lana may come to remember what it is which drew her to Rufus before. And Al is able to install surveillance cameras in Sproule's suite. In doing so, he learns Sproule's latest move to get Lily on his side, and learns how much he can trust Lily.
- The further Wolfgang and Norman get into their investigation - the latest discussion being a heart to heart with Detective Tanaka - the more they believe that the attempted bombing was orchestrated from within Canadian political institutions, with the end goal truly being for the bomb to be detonated. The only other explanation is that Khalil Mustafa truly was a jihadi whose plot was being monitored which led to he not being able to blow up the stadium. Norman decides to focus his attention on Sonya, which he does for more than professional reasons, the extent to which does not sit well with Wolfgang. Meanwhile, Rufus finds that getting Andre out of his life is not as easy as paying him off. He may also find that there are other unknown forces who want to see a drug war between the two of them. Rufus looks for some assurances as to Fergie's trustworthiness if he is forced to replace Bennie as his snitch. And Rufus also learns that some problems may be arising with respect to the movie, specifically in how much money needs to be funneled into it to satisfy all the interested parties. Elsewhere, in the on-going "negotiations" between Al and Sproule in a grab for power which includes to who Lily will belong professionally (and perhaps personally), Sproule may find that a wrench is thrown into his plans from another party, namely his wife Evelyn. A question becomes if and what he can do to manipulate the situation to his benefit.
- With Fergie's help, Wolfgang believes he's discovered the identity of one of the major players behind the attempted stadium bombing, and with his identity a credible story as to what is going on. However, Wolfgang finds that Harry needs more concrete evidence than Wolfgang's current hearsay. Wolfgang will also discover that he must be getting closer to the truth as at least one higher-up in Ottawa is aware of what he's doing and, going through a third party is quietly pressuring Wolfgang to desist in his investigation. Separately, Norman still is spending time with Sonya both to help her personally, but also to find out if she truly does know something substantive about the day of the attempted bombing. He also figures that she must have seen something that day as mysteriously a "cousin" she didn't know she had has contacted her wanting to reconnect. Meanwhile, Sproule's life in its entirety is slowly unraveling as he learns some information about Lily, information which was intentionally kept from him when he first learned about Lily, and for ulterior motives has been divulged to him now. Elsewhere, Rufus tries to diffuse what he knows will be the war that will ensue between him and Andre with Shorts' unsanctioned fire bombing of Andre's doorman. Rufus will learn if what ultimately ended being a spur of the moment Plan B will be enough to satisfy Andre. Rufus also gets word from Mei Mei about some potential problems concerning Wing Lei which will affect the drug operation and the money required to complete the movie.
- Norman and Wolfgang believe they may have finally gotten some pertinent information from who seems to be a semi-lucid Sonya. As such, they step up their surveillance on Michael Gary. In their pursuit of more specific information on Gary, Norman and Wolfgang may get themselves into a tight predicament. Rufus places a plan in motion to deal with two problems with one stone, and in the process begin a new business arrangement with Cosmo. And Sproule begins working on overcoming the obstacles in his career advancement. His actions may affect Lily, who has noticed of late that he has been cool toward her, and as such may have discovered her connections to China.
- Wolfgang believes he has Michael Gary's role in the attempted bombing figured out, and how he has been able to keep witnesses, such as Sonya, at bay. Through it all, Sonya goes missing, of which Norman is most concerned. He realizes that the effects of the drugs may have caused her initial reaction of running from him, but he does fear for her safety in every way from those who have been controlling her. Meanwhile, Rufus and Cosmo enter into negotiations now that both Andre and Shorts are out of the picture. Rufus doesn't tell Lana the full nature of those discussions, most specifically the drug side of things and his role in what happened between Andre and Shorts, but he does bring her into the fold of the plan. Both Rufus and Cosmo know that Alonzo may be a problem as Andre's heir apparent and someone who was loyal to him. Sproule, Lily and Al each make their next moves in their personal/professional maneuverings, with some of those moves meant to be the last ones in their short games. The question thus becomes whose final move will trump whose? And Mei Mei learns that what she thought were her secret dealings with Rufus were not so secret.
- Norman is tenacious in his pursuit of discovering what happened to Sonya, not only for the professional reason of discovering the entire plot behind the attempted bombing but because he cared for her as the innocent victim in everything that happened to her. Wolfgang knows however that taking a lighter approach may serve their needs better. Regardless, Norman makes one move after another in proving the tie of Michael Gary to the use of the drug to silence people like Kent, Sonya and Candy, most of those moves which don't sit well with Wolfgang but with which he may just have to go with Norman's flow. Wolfgang also learns from Harry his belief in Gary's end game, which wasn't even on Wolfgang's radar. Meanwhile, Sproule's dead body is discovered by a cleaning woman in the safe house. Sproule's death seems to be working in Al's plans as he is the obvious next in line for what was supposed to be Sproule's job in Ottawa. Al just has to be concerned that Detective Green, the lead investigator for the VPD, doesn't suspect foul play (i.e. that Sproule's death looks to be from a heart attack as Lily intended) and that she doesn't discover his surveillance cameras in the safe house. In his new capacity, Al learns just how far up the organization knowledge of the attempted bombing goes. Rufus, Cosmo and Alonzo each make their next moves in their tenuous new business relationship, which they all know is a power grab on each of their parts. And Mei Mei learns who left the threatening note on her script, it a face from her past.
- Norman is determined to kill Michael Gary largely to avenge Sonya's murder. He figures it should be an easy enough task as Gary is a highly routinized man, most days playing golf alone first thing in the morning on a largely secluded course. Despite Wolfgang trying to persuade him even not to entertain the idea of murder, Norman takes some personal risks to pursue this thought, one such measure he believing to be poetic justice. Beyond the law catching up with Norman, Wolfgang believes a better tact is a frontal assault, albeit a slightly covert one, especially as Al's new bosses are considering Gary for the full-time role in Al's new job. As such, Wolfgang is trusting that Al is still an ally. Jimmy Wah's appearance poses more problems than Tony was anticipating. Tony places Rufus between a rock and a hard place with regard to this matter. In his business relationship with Frank Cosmo, Rufus tries to convince Lana to play a key role in the new organization, that role which is something she is reluctant to do. And Lily contemplates Al's advice following Sproule's death.
- After testing the efficacy of the date rape drug on himself, Norman believes he has all the pieces in place to kill Michael Gary, he telling Wolfgang that he wanting to be the one to pull the figurative trigger, if only to be the legacy known only to him and Wolfgang. As Gary himself seems to be getting close to the top of the chain of power, Wolfgang decides to meet with Gary to hear him out, even knowing that Gary's main motivation in doing so is only to get Wolfgang to cease his investigation into the attempted stadium bombing. Knowing that he can get into a position of confidence, Wolfgang may change his plan of attack with Gary to a long game, which if he does may not sit well with Norman. Meanwhile, Rufus' operation hits a snag. All the pieces are falling into place into taking over Andre's organization with Cosmo. The snag is on the movie set, with the problem being Jimmy Wah, who Tony wants Rufus to handle. Jimmy has been wielding his power effectively to shut down the movie production, which he will continue to do unless Mei Mei cooperates, her contract which Jimmy has repurchased from Wing Lei. Learning Jimmy's situation from Tony may give Rufus some leverage in how best to deal with the current impasse.
