- APPARATUS is a series of character portraits exploring the presentation of queer and straight masculine identities, looking at each idea side by side. Set against the urban landscape of Auckland city, the film explores the suburban state housing complex of Otara and the lush and affluent gardens of central Auckland gentrified by years of social planning and engineering to make Auckland city the most livable city in the world. Using Pacific cultural performance and contemporary dance to have a conversation about what it means to be and Indigenous man today, Apparatus slowly unpacks the colonial myths behind the brown body, showcasing a generational snapshot of young men in their prime.
