- In the last years lots of Germans, Swiss and Austrians have settled down in the region of Transylvania and build their future there. Swiss professionals restore church organs, Prince Charles supports the manufacturing of traditional roof tiles, a craftsman from Germany restores fortified churches and old houses, while others open guesthouses and attract tourists from all over the world.
- After the Transylvanian Saxons left Romania for Germany at the beginning of the 1990s, the vast majority of their fortified churches, mostly in the rural areas where abandoned. After three decades now, most of them are in a bad state or even fell apart. The Lutheran Church in Transylvania tries to renovate as much churches as possible, using European funding. There are also other enthusiasts that try to save the remains of the huge Saxon legacy in Transylvania.
