- The Hamptons International Film Festival is a not-for-profit corporation founded to present a diverse selection of international films distinguished by their creativity, audacity, and independent sensibility at a yearly festival. The festival brings together new, emerging talent with acknowledged masters of world cinema, scholars, and key industry professionals through its annual festival and a year-round, ongoing program of seminars and workshops. The festival's year-round programs are also committed to the need for film preservation and restoration. (from the festival's web site, 1998)
- As per December 2004 recipients of the Hamptons Film Festival's Golden Starfish Award for Best Short Film will qualify for consideration in the short films category of the Annual Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy's rules.
