- The event was inaugurated in 1963 by the Chosun Ilbo newspaper and lasted to the tenth ceremony in 1973 with 1970 seeing no ceremony at all. In 1990 the Sports Chosun newspaper revived the awards, which have taken place yearly since. The yearly counter has been continued with the 25th ceremony taking place in 2004.
