- The Story of Cheiftain is based on the historical figure of Ang Deng Bang, a chieftain of an ethnic minority tribe, who became a fugitive to the Chinese government in the 1930's. In 1933, a large earthquake occurred in a small town within the Sichuan Province, however local government officials levied taxes after, causing outrage amongst the tribe headed by Ang Deng Bang. An Deng Bang started a resistance, and as a result became a fugitive hunted by the local government. At the same time, he met the Red Army, and decided to support them, setting up a guerrilla group of his own tribe members within the Red Army, and thus becoming the first ethnic minority leader to lead the revolution in modern China.
