- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsDaniel Day-LewisPaul DanoCiarán HindsA story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business.Instant classic... I won't discuss why this is the best film of the new century for me, because I expect from everyone to appreciate this P.T.A. masterpiece! One of the most important films of all times and if you are unable to appreciate it I don't think that I can convince you with any arguments why "There Will Be Blood" is genius peace of art.
P.S. I want to apologies to such a directors like: the Coen brothers, Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, David Lynch, David Cronenberg, Jim Jarmusch, Oliver Stone, Danny Boyle, David Fincher, Wes Anderson, Emir Kusturica, Sam Mendes, Andrew Niccol, Robert Altman, Robert Rodriguez, Francis Ford Coppola, Brian DePalma, Milos Forman, Terry Gilliam, Michele Gondry, John Carpenter, Jan Kounen, M. Night Shyamalan and a few others that I'm not mentioning their films but I think that this 10 are the most important films for this decade. - DirectorLars von TrierStarsWillem DafoeCharlotte GainsbourgStorm Acheche SahlstrømA grieving couple retreat to their cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage, but nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse. The deepest film I have ever seen since Bergman probably... Trier was the only director of whom I was thinking to include more than one film, but at the end I decide to put only this to the list, because I saw "Antichrist" more on big screen than any other of his films. To be fair let's say one film per a director!
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodViggo MortensenIan McKellenGandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring. You have to watch the three films like one. So, my choice under No. 3 is "The Lord Of The Rings: Trilogy". And I think that "LOTR" trilogy is the best (studio) trilogy ever made. The film changed the special effects for ever and I will never forget how excited i was for these films. I was on the hype more than any other blockbuster since Jurassic Park!
- DirectorFernando MeirellesKátia LundStarsAlexandre RodriguesLeandro FirminoMatheus NachtergaeleIn the slums of Rio, two kids' paths diverge as one struggles to become a photographer and the other a kingpin.Outstanding masterpiece... The vision, the editing, the screenplay, the acting and the DIRECTING was phenomenal. Fernando Meirelles did the best Goodfellas influenced film! Martin Scorsese inspiring way of movie making can be sensed everywhere, so that makes him the greatest living/working director right now, isn't it?
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineDaryl HannahAfter awakening from a four-year coma, a former assassin wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.The situation it's just like the LOTR trilogy you have to watch it as one movie. No. 5 - Kill Bill vol.1 and Kill Bill vol.2. Tarantino showed to the world that you can make your own homage movie full with every single genre that you have ever loved when you were a kid, without the misunderstandings of what you are really watching. I can't wait for Kill Bill vol.3!!! Goodbye Sally, we will missed you!
- DirectorAlexander PayneStarsPaul GiamattiThomas Haden ChurchVirginia MadsenTwo men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment embark on a week-long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle. The best positive film of all times. I've never saw such realistic portrayals of REAL people on the big screen. Applause for the 4 actors, the director and the beautiful script!
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioMatt DamonJack NicholsonAn undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston.French new wave to the bones! Scorsese it's the biggest film buff among all the directors! The Departed is a synonymous of a MODERN cinema to me!
- DirectorSpike JonzeStarsNicolas CageMeryl StreepChris CooperA lovelorn screenwriter becomes desperate as he tries and fails to adapt 'The Orchid Thief' by Susan Orlean for the screen. For me Charlie Kaufman is the most original screenwriter since Fellini!
- DirectorMichael MooreStarsMichael MooreGeorge W. BushBen AffleckMichael Moore's view on what happened to the United States after September 11 and how the Bush Administration allegedly used the tragic event to push forward its agenda for unjust wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.I hate Bush (*beep* plant), I think that what he and his office did to the world was a disaster. Fahrenheit 9/11 is one of the most important films ever made, I still can't believe that the Plant did second mandate! Probably for the first 4 years ru(in)leing America his cabinet finally has learn how to cheat properly on elections.
- DirectorSpike LeeStarsEdward NortonBarry PepperPhilip Seymour HoffmanCornered by the DEA, convicted New York drug dealer Montgomery Brogan reevaluates his life in the 24 remaining hours before facing a seven-year jail term.Probably i will surprise a lot of people by saying that Spike Lee's 25th Hour is my number 10 of the Top 10 movies from 2000 to 2010, but i think that the events around 9/11 are the most important date of our new history and 25th Hour was the first full length fiction film that freely spoke about the terrorist attacks. Spike Lee is genius for me and his social orientations always lift his films to a higher levels, like it's the situation with 25th Hour, because the 9/11 subject of course is not in the book by David Benioff. But the story, the acting, the lighting, the montage, the sound design are wonderful and this film wouldn't be what it is without Spike's enormous cinematic talent.
