- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business. This is number 1 on my list because every scene in this movie is not only brilliant, but just plain perfect. This is the real best film ever made. Just tell or ask someone you know about this film.
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsChristian BaleAmy AdamsBradley CooperA con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the Mafia. After "The Fighter" and "Silver Linings Playbook", David O. Russell has officially made a masterpiece. In this almost true story about the ABSCAM operation, con man Irving Rosenfield (Christian Bale) and his partner Lady Edith Greensly (Amy Adams) are forced to work for FBI Agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper) in order to take down corrupt politicians and a mobster who are trying to build up some casinos in Atlantic City. Along the way, the mayor of New Jersey, Carmine Polito (Jeremy Renner) joins in and there's Irving's unpredictably quirky wife Roslyn (Jennifer Lawrence) who could possibly bring it down. It looks and feels like it was made in the 70's and filled with sharp bravado and clever dialogue, this stingingly funny and downright stunning film will linger in your memory long after it's over. It's a tribute to the painstaking soul of filmmaking that is actually kind of brilliant.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice. It's at number 3 because of Heath Ledger's performance as the very eerie character named the Joker.
- DirectorBradley CooperStarsLady GagaBradley CooperSam ElliottA musician helps a young singer find fame as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. My favorite movie of 2018. I've always been a fan of both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, but when they were on stage together, the whole movie came alive. It was as electrifying and powerful as any other movie experience that I had ever experienced this or any other year. Bradley Cooper is an amazing triple threat (Acting, Directing, Singing) and Lady Gaga is a powerhouse, when she's acting or singing. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you should. And I've seen this movie twice and will probably watch it over and over again.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. This is probably my favorite Quentin Tarantino masterpiece. It's a series of interconnecting stories that follows two hit men (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson), their boss' drug-crazed wife (Uma Thurman), a boxer (Bruce Willis) on the run and lots of amazing surprises that manages to twist and turns itself into an wickedly sharp comedy that's hilarious, exhilarating, intoxicating and sometimes a little harrowing. It's a testament to Tarantino's ability of creating amazing characters, originally quirky dialogue and unsettling events and even after 20 years, it still manages to be a classic in the world of filmmaking.
- DirectorBong Joon HoStarsSong Kang-hoLee Sun-kyunCho Yeo-jeongGreed and class discrimination threaten the newly-formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan. This was the Oscar-winning film that took the world by storm/surprise...and introduced me to Oscar-winning South Korean director Bong Joon-Ho. It's the story of a poor family named Ki-Duk, in which one of the members starts to work for a wealthy family named Kim. Then the poor family start to sneak in to the wealthy side, seeing how they live...then all hell breaks loose. It's a virtuoso piece of filmmaking that had me completely hooked from start to finish. Funny, poignant, irreverent and strangely sensational. If you haven't seen it yet, see this one with a open mind. Like Jordan Peele's "Get Out", it's a movie worth unpacking and discovering for yourself.
- DirectorRandal KleiserStarsJohn TravoltaOlivia Newton-JohnStockard ChanningGood girl Sandy Olsson and greaser Danny Zuko fell in love over the summer. When they unexpectedly discover they're now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? The best musical ever made...next to other musicals, like "Hairspray", "Chicago" and "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street". This was before the whole High School Musical experience came through.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsDean-Charles ChapmanGeorge MacKayDaniel MaysApril 6th, 1917. As an infantry battalion assembles to wage war deep in enemy territory, two soldiers are assigned to race against time and deliver a message that will stop 1,600 men from walking straight into a deadly trap.My favorite movie of 2019 directed by the great Sam Mendes that follows the story of two soldiers that trudged a blistering long trail through enemy territory during World War I on a journey to deliver a letter to prevent a deadly attack for the other side of the allies, that also includes one of the soldiers' brother. A phenomenal experience of a movie that is shown in one long continuous take and Mendes, who was inspired by his grandfather who served in the war, enlists the help of two brilliant main performances from Dean-Charles Chapman (as Blake) and a star-making George MacKay (as Schofield), other great veteran actors including Colin Firth, Richard Madden, Mark Strong and Benedict Cumberbatch and wonderful cinematography by Roger Deakins, which deserved the Oscar for best cinematography, to tell such a riveting and emotional powerful film that had me completely shook all the way through. Don't Miss It!
- DirectorTheodore MelfiStarsTaraji P. HensonOctavia SpencerJanelle MonáeThe story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. This is one of my favorite stories ever about a true story that I never knew about three African-American women working as mathematicians, mechanics and engineers at NASA during the space race. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae are the women and the film co-written and directed by Theodore Melfi has this movie a memorable experience for me to watch again and again.
- DirectorTom HooperStarsColin FirthGeoffrey RushHelena Bonham CarterThe story of King George VI, his unexpected ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer.A phenomenon and a celebration! Colin Firth really did deserve that Oscar for his performance as a tortured soon-to-be-king who has a stammering problem. That is, until, he recieves help from speech therapist Geoffrey Rush and his queen of a wife Helena Bonham Carter. Splendid good film. One of the best movies I've ever seen. The R-Rating however is a little surprising. Deal with it.
- DirectorFrank MillerQuentin TarantinoRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeClive OwenBruce WillisAn exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption. The imagination of Frank Miller's graphic novels meets the stunning vision of director Robert Rodriguez in this awesome movie event that's not to be missed. It's jam-packed with so many interesting characters and impressive storylines including a renegade (Mickey Rourke as Marv) out for revenge on the ones that killed the woman (Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy) he loved, a cop (Bruce Willis as Hartigan) with a bum ticker who tries to protect a young stripper (Jessica Alba as Nancy) from a sadistic psychopath (Nick Stahl as Yellow Bastard) and a group of hookers (Rosario Dawson as Gail and Alexis Bledel as Becky) and a sexy assassin (Devon Aoki as Miho) lands in hot water after the death of a cop (Benicio Del Toro as Jackie Boy) and only one man (Clive Owen as Dwight) can clear out the evidence, including the cop's head that still manages to talk a lot of smack. Miller and Rodriguez (with special guest Quentin Tarantino) direct this extremely marvelous movie (in stunning black-and-white with some hints of color) that manages to keep you on the edge of your seat and the bloody violence is very uncompromising, but you have to admire the combination of Miller and Rodriguez's styles and the old-fashioned 1940's look is spontaneously amazing. You won't forget it, I promise you.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletBilly ZaneA seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.A brilliant classic that has enchanted us for years. James Cameron's masterpiece captivates us from its spectacular opening to the sinking of the Titanic to its beautiful conclusion. Bring tissues for it.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSam WorthingtonZoe SaldanaSigourney WeaverA paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.James Cameron's real epic masterpiece with a brilliant performance by Sam Worthington. This is the first movie that introduces us into a new tropical paradise and a new language that we've never seen before.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.Damien Chazelle has wrote and directed a visually stunning modern musical that heralds back to the Technicolor Golden Age musicals starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (in her Oscar-winning performance) as Sebastian and Mia, two dreamers living in L.A. who are finding opportunities to make more out of themselves when the doors of opportunities keep shutting them away. The movie is a charming delight, enchanting, funny, alive with continuous energy and musical numbers that are beautifully memorable.
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsBradley CooperJennifer LawrenceRobert De NiroAfter a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own. Here's David O. Russell's romantic dramedy that's worth prescribing your medication for. It's the story of Pat (Bradley Cooper), a man suffering from undiagnosed bipolar disorder and is trying to get back his (EX)wife. That all changes when he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence in her Oscar-Winning performance), a woman who also has issues after the loss of her police officer husband. The two then bond when she wants him to be her partner for a dance competition in exchange for him to send a letter to his wife. Their feelings grow stronger for one another and they find themselves falling for each other in this funny and intelligent film about breaking through mentality, gaining your own perspective about life and to also find a brand new start even when it's least expected. The cast including Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker as Pat's support system is superb.
- DirectorGary RossStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister's place in the Hunger Games: a televised competition in which two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are chosen at random to fight to the death.Gary Ross directs this very intense, moving and thrilling adaptation of Suzanne Collins' bestselling book with Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a 16-year-old hunter living in a dystopian future whose been forced to participate in a fight to the death known as "The Hunger Games". Lawrence's performance makes this movie extremely watchable, along with incredible performances from a all-star cast, non-stop thrills and lots of emotional drama. And as a fan of the books, I encourage you to believe the hype.
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.Katniss Everdeen returns in this pulse-pounding continuation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" as she (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) are forced back into the arena with "all experienced killers" by President Snow (Donald Sutherland), who wants to squash everything involving the rebellion and the new Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman) who might have a few tricks up his sleeve. Once again, Oscar-winner Lawrence carries this franchise through and through as Katniss and new director Francis Lawrence brings a more relaxed approach this time in this intense and intriguing movie. Again, believe the hype.
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsDaniel RadcliffeEmma WatsonRupert GrintHarry, Ron, and Hermione search for Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes in their effort to destroy the Dark Lord as the final battle rages on at Hogwarts. The best film of 2011 and the best Harry Potter film since the first four. David Yates and screenplay writer Steve Kloves makes this as full-fledged and fast-paced as ever. The cast is excellent and we have some of our fan favorites in this movie. Those are the best moments. This is the end of a 14-year journey where magic, love, live and death are a little bit closer to home.
- DirectorMichel HazanaviciusStarsJean DujardinBérénice BejoJohn GoodmanWhen George, a silent movie superstar, meets Peppy Miller, a dancer, sparks fly between the two. However, after the introduction of talking pictures, their fortunes change, affecting their dynamic.A delightful and uplifting celebration to the silent film era as Hollywood superstar George Valentin (Jean Dujardin in his surprising Oscar-winning performance) falls for a happy-go-lucky new starlet named Peppy Miller (Berenice Bejo) during the era where silent film were on their way out and "talkies" were coming in to the market. Writer- Director Michel Hazanavicius, who won an Oscar for his directing, infuses the film with magic and wonder. Plus, it features a cute dog named Uggie. This was one of the best films I've ever seen. I would love to see it again.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJamie FoxxChristoph WaltzLeonardo DiCaprioWith the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.Quentin Tarantino's 8th film is one hell of a movie about a former slave turned bounty hunter who teams up with another bounty hunter in order to rescue his wife from a cruel plantation owner and his renegade slave/butler. Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson give fearless performances in this bloody, brutal, terrifying, hilarious and awe-inspiring Western disguised as a buddy movie. This movie is really off the chain.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineDaryl HannahAfter awakening from a four-year coma, a former assassin wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.Another Quentin Tarantino classic inspired by the samurai, spaghetti western, yakuza, exploitation films of his time featuring Uma Thurman in a cut-throat performance as a woman plotting for revenge against her former employees.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineMichael MadsenThe Bride continues her quest of vengeance against her former boss and lover Bill, the reclusive bouncer Budd, and the treacherous, one-eyed Elle. The Bride is back, haters! And it's only the final cut....or is it? Guess we'll never know.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHenry ThomasDrew BarrymorePeter CoyoteA troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape from Earth and return to his home planet.Steven Spielberg's timeless family classic that is definitely a family affair. Bring a box of Kleenex....and a can of Coca-Cola.
- DirectorLone ScherfigStarsCarey MulliganPeter SarsgaardAlfred MolinaA coming-of-age story about a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age. Thanks to Carey Mulligan's star-making performance, this movie warmed my heart, made me laugh, and thought it would be cool to seek my education in life, too. Let's be honest, this is not a story about an older man preying on a 16-year-old girl, it's about a girl who's bored with life and looking for a way to escape, while falling for an older man, played wonderfully well with a terrific British accent by Peter Sarsgaard.
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsMark WahlbergChristian BaleAmy AdamsBased on the story of Micky Ward, a fledgling boxer who tries to escape the shadow of his more famous but troubled older boxing brother and get his own shot at greatness. The incredibly uplifting true story of boxer Micky Ward and his brother Dicky is a story that is definitely worth telling in David O. Russell's phenomenal film. Micky (Mark Wahlberg) has been trying to make his hometown of Lowell, Mass. proud, but it's hard for him because he's living in the shadows of his drug-addicted brother Dicky (Christian Bale in his amazing Oscar-Winning performance), whose only claim to fame was beating(?) Sugar Ray Leonard. When Micky gets his chance to be a champion with the help of beautiful bartender Charlene (Amy Adams, a stunner) and his father (Jack McGee), he finally finds the confidence and integrity to put Lowell on the map while also trying to keep his family (including his mom played by the brilliant Melissa Leo in her Oscar-winning performance and 7 off-the-wall sisters) together. And yes, it's about two brothers who are very different but has the same passion for life and boxing in this amazing film that's triumphant, funny and intimate, mostly all at the same time.
