- CreatorDavid ChaseStarsJames GandolfiniLorraine BraccoEdie FalcoNew Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life that affect his mental state, leading him to seek professional psychiatric counseling. It's violent, it's harsh, it's hysterical and touching. I've yet to see a series come close to it.
- StarsScott GrimesDamian LewisRon LivingstonThe story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord to V-J Day.It's hard for War movies to touch this mini series, you really get in touch with the characters and learn about them and the real people they represent. Truly epic.
- CreatorDavid SimonStarsDominic WestLance ReddickSonja SohnThe Baltimore drug scene, as seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement. The characters are deplorable people but you end up caring about them, I was hooked to this and was sad when it ended. Omar Little was one of the best characters I've ever seen on TV.
- CreatorMatthew WeinerStarsJon HammElisabeth MossVincent KartheiserA drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper.Truly representative of them time, great clothes, great men and great story lines. Hope it's back soon.
- StarsDerek JacobiJohn HurtSiân PhillipsThe personal and governmental affairs of the Julio-Claudian dynasty at the beginning of the Roman Empire, as recalled by one of its rulers.Very accurate in terms of history and the performances are truly theatrical.
- StarsIan RichardsonSusannah HarkerMiles AndersonThe schemes of a ruthlessly ambitious British politician who will stop at nothing to get to the top.I am very skeptical about a remake. It's hard to see anyone come close to Ian Richardson in terms of pure evil and the subtle black comedy his character gave to the audience when he turned to the camera to tell us of his intentions.
- StarsJames Badge DaleJoseph MazzelloJon SedaThe Pacific Theatre of World War II, as seen through the eyes of several young Marines.Like Band of Brothers this is epic. The camera work and the scenes captured are compelling and the characters are very easy to relate to.
- CreatorGraham ChapmanEric IdleTerry JonesStarsGraham ChapmanJohn CleeseTerry GilliamThe original surreal sketch comedy showcase for the Monty Python troupe. The standard that all comedies should set themselves by.
- StarsJohn CleesePrunella ScalesAndrew SachsHotel owner Basil Fawlty's incompetence, short fuse, and arrogance form a combination that ensures accidents and trouble are never far away.John Cleese's portrayal of the eternally frustrated Basil is comedy gold.
- CreatorJohn SullivanStarsDavid JasonNicholas LyndhurstRoger Lloyd PackComedy that follows two brothers from London's rough Peckham estate as they wheel and deal through a number of dodgy deals and search for the big score that'll make them millionaires.Possibly the best comedy series to come out of Britain since Fawlty Towers.
- StarsCaroline AherneCraig CashSue JohnstonA British sitcom about the everyday life of a working-class family in Northwest England: watching telly, smoking, drinking, and bickering.Side splitting and touching. A great family comedy.
- StarsStephen FryHugh LaurieRichard DixonBertram Wooster, a well-intentioned, wealthy layabout, has a habit of getting himself into trouble and it's up to his brilliant valet, Jeeves, to get him out.Hugh Laurie and Stephen Frye at their best. Brilliant dry wit and hilarious adventures.
- CreatorTrey ParkerMatt StoneBrian GradenStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneIsaac HayesFollows the misadventures of four irreverent grade-schoolers in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado.Possibly one of the most controversial shows of all time. Stone and Parker have no fear of parodying anyone or discussing any issue and make light of any topical issues in the most hilarious fashion.
- CreatorJames L. BrooksMatt GroeningSam SimonStarsDan CastellanetaNancy CartwrightHarry ShearerThe satiric half-hour adventures of a working-class family in the misfit city of Springfield. The standard for animated comedy since the early 90's. Homer Simpson is possibly the best animated character of all time.
- CreatorDavid ShoreStarsHugh LaurieOmar EppsRobert Sean LeonardUsing a crack team of doctors and his wits, an antisocial maverick doctor specializing in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way.I'ts hard to see the likes of House being tolerated in a hospital but the character is brilliant. The show appears to follow the same format for every episode but the sub plots and challenges running through the episodes manage to keep it fresh. Once again Hugh Laurie shows us his comedic brilliance in his portrayal of the reckless doctor.
- StarsJohn ThawKevin WhatelyJames GroutChief Inspector Morse has an ear for Western classical music, a taste for beer, and a nose for crime. He and Detective Sergeant Robert Lewis solve intriguing cases in and around the Oxford area. He's grumpy yet lovable. I learned more about classical music and literature from watching Morse than I did from school. The final episode will make the toughest men cry.
- StarsRichard AyoadeMatt BerryMatthew HolnessThis parody series is an unearthed 80s horror/drama, complete with poor production values, awful dialogue and hilarious violence. The series is set in a Hospital in Romford, which is situated over the gates of Hell.Absurd, surreal and hilarious. That's all that can be said about this without giving too much away, just go watch it.
- CreatorDylan MoranStarsDylan MoranBill BaileyTamsin GreigBernard Black runs a book shop, though his customer service skills leave something to be desired. He hires Manny as an employee. Fran runs the shop next door. Between the three of them many adventures ensue.Bernard acts as if he doesn't depend on his customers to make a living. His treatment of his friends and coworkers is equally belligerent. Despite all this Bernard is not a character we can hate.
- CreatorSeth MacFarlaneDavid ZuckermanStarsAlex BorsteinSeth MacFarlaneSeth GreenIn a wacky Rhode Island town, a dysfunctional family strives to cope with everyday life as they are thrown from one crazy scenario to another.A show case for some great voice acting talents, at times it is very surreal but the characters are very memorable. The writers of this show deserve major credit from giving this show a unique appearance even if it does borrow heavily from The Simpsons.
- StarsPaul EddingtonNigel HawthorneDerek FowldsThe Right Honorable James Hacker has landed the plum job of Cabinet Minister to the Department of Administration. At last he is in a position of power and can carry out some long-needed reforms, or so he thinks.A funny look into the halls of power and how the civil service really run the government. We feel sorry for the hapless Jim Hacker and his confrontations with his secretary Sir Humphrey are a laugh riot.
- CreatorJimmy McGovernStarsRobbie ColtraneGeraldine SomervilleKieran O'BrienDr Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald is a criminal psychologist. He is rather anti-social and obnoxious but he has a gift for solving crimes. Thus he is employed as a consultant by the Manchester Police. The character of Cracker is despicable. He gambles away all his money if he doesn't drink it first. Cracker is a useless father and a terrible husband. However, he is the best criminal psychologist around and he can read a man like a book. For me it was refreshing to see a protagonist with human flaws who wasn't loved by those around him.
- CreatorFranc RoddamStarsTimothy SpallJimmy NailTim HealySeven British construction workers escape Britain's ever-growing dole queues and travel to Germany to work on a site in Düsseldorf. Follow their trials and tribulations of working away from home and away from the women they left behind.Great characters and some side splitting adventures. The main winner in this show is friendship.
- CreatorCraig BartlettSteve VikstenJoe AnsolabehereStarsFrancesca Marie SmithJamil Walker SmithDan CastellanetaThe everyday life of Arnold, a fourth-grader in the city of Hillwood, Washington, who lives in a multi-racial boarding house with his grandparents and a motley assortment of friends and neighbors. My favorite animated show as a child, Genius.
- StarsDavid JasonBruce AlexanderJohn LyonsDI Jack Frost is an unconventional policeman with sympathy for the underdog and an instinct for moral justice. Sloppy, disorganized, and disrespectful, he attracts trouble like a magnet.David Jason shows us his serious side as the messy detective who can solve crimes but can't seem to sort his life out.
- CreatorBen EdlundStarsTownsend ColemanMicky DolenzRob PaulsenAn invulnerable, somewhat dim, superhero protects The City from all manner of evil-doers.An under appreciated animated show from 1994.
