- DirectorSlatan DudowStarsAnnekathrin BürgerAngelica DomröseWilli SchradeSlatan Dudow's best-known and last completed film, a big-budget production featuring Angelica Domroese (of later The Legend of Paul and Paula fame), Annekatrin Bürger and Willi Schrade. The film ran into trouble with official socialist morality due to its frank depiction of sex (including nude bathing scenes) and portrayal of consumerism, along with a very stylized version of comedy.
- DirectorGünter ReischStarsErwin GeschonneckAngelica DomröseArmin Mueller-StahlEx-marriage swindler Ewald Honig arrives in East Berlin from West Germany in order to spend a quiet evening of his life with his daughter Ina. He is already in his mid-fifties. Ina, an apple fallen not far from the tree, is still trying to rehabilitate her cash flow with the help of a few gullible, gray-haired men. While he seeks to dissuade her from doing so by cementing her marriage to her next "victim," several women of advanced age make it difficult for Ewald to resist their own seductions. Searching for Ewald, however, is the Hungarian criminal investigator Johanna Farkas, while the criminal psychologist Dr. Achim Engelhardt is tracking down Ina; both use their own peculiar methods. And since they both do not know each other, Achim mistakes Johanna for his suspect. So this mixed-up love story comes to a happy end.
- DirectorRoland GräfStarsJenny GröllmannErika PelikowskyArmin Mueller-StahlWhen Dr. Schmith's (Armin Mueller-Stahl) proposal for international research on infant mortality is rejected, he decides to leave East Germany and strikes a deal with an escape agency that promises him a leading position at a children's hospital in West Germany. But then the decision is reversed: the project is approved and his international colleagues want Dr. Schmith to head the GDR section. He falls in love with his new colleague, Katharina (Jenny Gröllmann). Schmith initially tries to ignore the arrangements he made with the escape agency, but they blackmail him. Things soon turn deadly... As the topic of escaping to the West was taboo in the GDR, The Flight is an exception in East German film history. The film, which won the Grand Prix at the Karoly Vary International Film Festival in 1978, was the last one Armin Mueller-Stahl made at the East German DEFA studios. In 1980, only two years after the release of the film, he left East Germany for the West because of professional restrictions imposed upon him after he joined protests against the expatriation of the dissident singer/songwriter Wolf Biermann.
- DirectorSlatan DudowStarsRolf LudwigErwin GeschonneckElse WolzAlbert Hauptmann is an out of work waiter in Cologne who is often confused with a former Captain of the Nazi Army. But Karjanke cannot come forward until his politicking "Doppelganger" succeeds in passing an amnesty law for war criminals. When Albert is finally brought before a judge on charges of fraud, he learns that this own amnesty law does not apply to him.

The numerous shore leaves produce their share of complicated situations with women that frequently cause them to get into trouble. The higher-ups say the situation needs to change, such that the sailor be given a steady woman to settle him down - a wife. For this very reason, the charming journalist Eva is brought on board for the trip to Leningrad. Things are going well until a stowaway turns up on board. Marylou from the Shark Bar has pursued the sailor to his home turf. When both women find out what's going on, they team up against the men. In the end, both the sailor as well as his captain land in the safe harbor of marriage.

- DirectorGünter ReischStarsErich FranzFriedel NowackErika DunkelmannAfter their successful May party, now the Lehmann family want to throw a New Year's Eve part with punch. Wilhelm's sons Franz and Paul are brigade leaders at a chemical factory. One of their brigades consists largely of fanatics of high culture, while the other consists of sports fanatics. But the rival brigades must work together in order to throw a successful New Year's Eve party for the factory, since the occasion requires both elements: sports and culture. There is an ice show in the program, the star of which is Wilhelm's granddaughter Suse. Knispel from the sports-inclined brigade follows Paul's rigorous training plan for her and stubbornly refuses to let matters of the heart get in the way. Knispel, along with the pretty Ruth, still succeed at convincing the iron athlete Paul of the utility of culture and the collaboration between the two areas. The athletically and artistically brilliant ice show is a big hit.
- DirectorGottfried KolditzStarsChristel BodensteinManfred KrugWerner LierckDespite the fact that production manager Kruse doesn't have the actors or the crew for the job, he recklessly boasts that he could direct a review film. To prevent him losing face, Kruse brings together four people - a dramaturg, a composer, a writer and an architect - and gives them the thankless task of turning his idea into a film. Except for the relatively unknown composer Alexander Ritter, who is enthusiastically committed to the project, the other members of the team find themselves stuck in this mess. The production assistant Claudia Glueck and the rest of the team don't count on Ritter at first because he has absolutely no experience in composing material for review films. But what he lacks in experience, he more than makes up with his creative energy and his enthusiasm for the project. Not only are all of his colleagues' doubts soon cast aside, but Ritter also wins Glueck's heart, even though she mistrusted him the most from the very beginning. How could the review help but be a roaring success?
- DirectorFrank BeyerStarsAnnekathrin BürgerArmin Mueller-StahlUlrich TheinSet in the historical context of anti-Nazi resistance, this love story explores the moral issues of the period. Beyer's second antifascist film, it stands out stylistically due to the clear references to the work of Tarkovsky.

- DirectorKonrad WolfStarsRenate BlumeEberhard EscheHans Hardt-HardtloffIn 1961, Rita returns to her childhood village after a breakdown. As she recovers, she remembers the past two years: her love for chemist Manfred, 10 years her senior; his enthusiasm about his new chemical process, which turned to bitter disappointment in the face of rejection; his escape to West Berlin a few weeks before the Wall was built; and his hope that she would follow him. This East German classic, praised by critics as one of Germany's 100 Most Important Films, is based on Christa Wolf's internationally-known novel, criticized in the GDR for questioning the construction of the Wall. Produced during a brief cultural thaw in the early 1960s, this film was strongly influenced by French Nouvelle Vague cinema.
