Lombardi finally sees Norah's value, and they marry.

The plane is attacked by two planes belonging to a gang that smuggles dope and aliens across the Mexican border. Sandy makes a parachute jump with the mail sack, and Russ maneuvers his craft so that the pursuing planes are forced to crash. Russ then lands his plane, only to discover that the Rendons have been captured by three escaped convicts. Russ manages to bring the men to justice, winning the gratitude and love of Alice. Sandy realizes the crowning ambition of his young life and delivers the mail.

The old man then visits his cronies at the old folks' home and likes it well enough to plan to live there. Fred and Nettie dissuade him for a while, but when he discovers that Nettie is pregnant, he moves out for good, realizing that the old must give way to the young.

During a big storm, a vessel in distress is sighted, but Bartlett, overcome by cowardice, refuses to send out a rescue team. Calvin takes the men out and effects the rescue. Bartlett is discharged, and Calvin is appointed to replace him. Driven insane by his experiences, Bartlett ventures out in a small boat in rough water, and Calvin rescues him. The old man dies from exposure, and Norma, having realized that Calvin was not responsible for her father's disgrace, seeks refuge in his strong arms.

John tries to defuse the situation but is shot and wounded by Newton. The U.S. Cavalry arrives and places the Newton gang under arrest. Mary comes to admire John and they fall in love.

A man, who is shown as being friendly with the heroine to the extent that he would call on her at any time of the night and enter her apartment unannounced (but no intimate relations are shown or even implied between them), steals a valuable necklace, and, as he is chased by the police, goes to the cafe where the heroine had been working, hands her the jewel, and tells her to keep it for him. The police find him but are unable to arrest him for lack of evidence. The heroine, while she is taken home by the hero, drops the jewel case in the taxi. The hero later finds it and returns it to the heroine just after the police, who had traced the thief in the heroine's apartment, had left. But the police had not left ; they had surrounded the house. They eventually arrest the thief. He is sent to Devil's Island, but escapes, returns to Paris and sends for the heroine so that she might bring him the jewel. He is trailed by the police, who had followed the heroine, and is shot and killed by them just as he was about to shoot and kill the hero, who had followed the heroine there. Hero and heroine marry.

Deucalion spots Eleanor, a spy who had done him dirt and after tangling with the local gendarmes, they take her and head back for Morocco where they are charged with desertion, and have to go out and defeat some more marauding natives, and dodge the machine-gun fire directed at them by the highly-displeased Eleanor, and one thing just follows another.

Hansen to begin adoption procedures and, in town, meets Olive Smith, an attractive young woman to whom he is instantly attracted. Sally soon becomes jealous of Jim and Olive's relationship and competes with Olive for his attention. Meanwhile, Pelgram organizes a group of local men to run Jim out of town by abducting and whipping him. Jim survives the ordeal and later discovers that Pelgram wants the Smith ranch because he has found oil on it. At the guardianship hearings, Mrs. Pelgram testifies against Jim's character by fabricating a story about how he made sexual advances toward her. The judge, however, is convinced of Jim's suitability as a parent and grants him custody of the children. Returning to the Smith ranch, Jim and the children are shocked to see their father, who has just been released from San Quentin. Smith announces that, just moments before, he sold the ranch to Pelgram. When Smith learns about the oil on the land, he welches on his deal with Pelgram, and Pelgram kills him. Pelgram is then arrested and led away to prison. Despite his realization that he has been living with the wrong Smith family all along, Jim decides to remain with his newly adopted family.

When Ronald and Hippy arrive, Charles senses that Ronald is interested in Emmie, not realizing he has come for Lucille. As Charles and Ronald get to know each other, however, they become fast friends and get drunk on a fishing expedition. In their drunken chatter, Ronald admits to Charles that Lucille does not look as glamorous to him in America as she did in Europe, and confesses that he is really too selfish to love a woman the same way Charles does. Meanwhile, Peggy's heart softens about her mother's love for Hippy, and she realizes Emmie is truly happy with him. The next day Lucille is told that Ronald has left, and she happily returns to her husband, finally realizing the value of their marriage and the joy her new family will bring to her.
