- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsJulianne MooreClive OwenChiwetel EjioforIn 2027, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea.The concept it brilliant to begin with and add incredible acting, sets and smaller details and you have an incredible prognosis of a bleak and hopeless future for the human race. Epic and seamless scenes show vast stretches of story and emotion. Gritty - the way I like em. The books is good too and focuses on very different facets of the concept.
- DirectorMichel GondryStarsJim CarreyKate WinsletTom WilkinsonWhen their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a medical procedure to have each other erased from their memories forever.Amazing cinematography and I always rate a movie that can present a psychological journey in a clear and innovative way. Comedy or drama Carrey excels and Winslet is her typical amazing self.
- DirectorTony KayeStarsEdward NortonEdward FurlongBeverly D'AngeloLiving a life marked by violence, neo-Nazi Derek finally goes to prison after killing two black youths. Upon his release, Derek vows to change; he hopes to prevent his brother, Danny, who idolizes Derek, from following in his footsteps. An exploration of racism in America and its ability to deeply pervade generation after generation. Brilliant acting and a mounting tension that keeps you in there. Norton's acting is some of the best I've ever seen - how he never won the Oscar nomination for this is beyond me - I think he lost out to the Life is beautiful stand on his chair bloke.
- DirectorFernando MeirellesKátia LundStarsAlexandre RodriguesLeandro FirminoMatheus NachtergaeleIn the slums of Rio, two kids' paths diverge as one struggles to become a photographer and the other a kingpin.A terrifying movie this one. Made me fearful of going to Brasil that's for sure. But yeah everything about this movie is superb. Nothing more to say.
- DirectorMichael CurtizStarsHumphrey BogartIngrid BergmanPaul HenreidA cynical expatriate American cafe owner struggles to decide whether or not to help his former lover and her fugitive husband escape the Nazis in French Morocco."I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue."
Nuff said really. - DirectorJohn LandisStarsJohn BelushiDan AykroydCab CallowayJake Blues rejoins with his brother Elwood after being released from prison, but the duo has just days to reunite their old R&B band and save the Catholic home where the two were raised, outrunning the police as they tear through Chicago.A perfect timepiece of the 1980s. I used to watch this every day after school with my sister and know the script backwards. Fantastic comedy and concept.
"I hate Illinois Nazis." - DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsGeorge ClooneyJohn TurturroTim Blake NelsonIn the deep south during the 1930s, three escaped convicts search for hidden treasure while a relentless lawman pursues them.Another musical one. Quite an under-rated comedy too if you ask me. The symbolism is precise with subtle undertones. Clooney is a brilliant comedy actor and timing wise is a joy to watch. The brilliant cast shouldn't be overlooked either.
"Damn were in a tight spot!" - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.Again this shows such a brilliant psychological journey and manages to easily and coherently present an incredible complex plot concept with very little worry. Even my mother could grab the concept of this one.
- DirectorJohn McTiernanStarsBruce WillisAlan RickmanBonnie BedeliaA New York City police officer tries to save his estranged wife and several others taken hostage by terrorists during a Christmas party at the Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles.Probably the only movie from all the epic franchises (StarWars, Indy etc) that made it in here and that's not to take away from them - they don't belong here - but this movie stands so far above all other subsequent Die Hards (even 3) that it slides in here quite nicely as a single entity.
"Nine million terrorists in the world and I gotta kill one with feet smaller than my sister." - DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.Hmmm I ummmed and arrred over this entry quite a lot and had several other competing for this spot but in the end I went with this movie simply because it fuses so many genres together to create an truly unique idea. A brilliant cast with no huge hitters to speak of - bar Swayze.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroRobert DuvallThe early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.
