- DirectorTommy WiseauStarsTommy WiseauJuliette DanielleGreg SesteroIn San Francisco, an amiable banker's seemingly perfect life is turned upside down when his deceitful bride-to-be embarks on a passionate affair with his best friend.I saw this in a theater with a full audience, greatest cinematic experience of my life. (Btw, it's not a serious film at all, but it deserves the number 1 spot.)
- DirectorBobcat GoldthwaitStarsJoel MurrayTara Lynne BarrMackenzie Brooke SmithOn a mission to rid society of its most repellent citizens, terminally ill Frank makes an unlikely accomplice in 16-year-old Roxy.Very violent, and very counter-cultural, however, it's also very funny, and surprisingly emotional.
- DirectorRob ReinerStarsWil WheatonRiver PhoenixCorey FeldmanA writer recounts a childhood journey with his friends to find the body of a missing boy.A must see for all kinds of film buffs, it shows the innocence of childhood while also showing the transition into adulthood. I wish my childhood friends were this cool :/
- DirectorTim HeideckerEric WareheimStarsTim HeideckerEric WareheimRobert LoggiaTwo guys get a billion dollars to make a movie, only to watch their dream run off course. In order to make the money back, they then attempt to revitalize a failing shopping mall.Feel the tacqutor.
- DirectorJonathan DaytonValerie FarisStarsSteve CarellToni ColletteGreg KinnearA family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus. This is truly a God-Tier movie, it's well written, the acting's amazing, the visuals are simplistic but great.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster. When I first saw this it was in my creative writing class, and I was not expecting it to be as action packed, intense, dramatic, and moving as it was. This is probably the most well written movie I've ever seen, managing to incorporate some of every genre. Accompanied by an all-star cast, and amazing imagery, this movie is exceptional in every aspect.
- DirectorJosh RadnorStarsJosh RadnorMalin AkermanZoe KazanCaptures a generational moment - young people on the cusp of truly growing up, tiring of their reflexive cynicism, each in their own ways struggling to connect and define what it means to love and be loved.I love movies with parallel story lines, and this one has three. It's a spectacular film, and it has that indie feel to it, so all you hipsters will love it.
- DirectorAndré ØvredalStarsOtto JespersenRobert StoltenbergKnut NærumA group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.Shot like a "Found-Footage" documentary, however it's not meant to be believable. It's probably one of the most suspenseful, and action packed mockumentary ever. I know it seems like a joke, but I promise you, this movie is really rewarding.
- DirectorPeter BogdanovichStarsRyan O'NealTatum O'NealMadeline KahnDuring the Great Depression, a con man finds himself saddled with a young girl who may or may not be his daughter, and the two forge an unlikely partnership.A 70's film shot exclusively like a 20-40 era film. Features Tatum O'Reily acting along side her father in an amazing performance.
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJohnny DeppLeonardo DiCaprioJuliette LewisA young man in a small Midwestern town struggles to care for his mentally-disabled younger brother and morbidly obese mother while attempting to pursue his own happiness.I'm sure this film will be considered a classic in the future, it's timeless story is sad and uplifting at the same time, with some of the most amazing charecters ever.
- DirectorCraig GillespieStarsRyan GoslingEmily MortimerPaul SchneiderA delusional young man strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet.I don't really know what to say about this one other then that the acting is GOD-TIER.
- DirectorMartin RosenStarsJohn HurtChristopher BenjaminJames BolamTwo dogs escape from a laboratory and are hunted as possible carriers of the bubonic plague.A very sad movie about two dogs that were tested on in a lab, in fact, it's probably the saddest movie I've ever seen, it almost made me cry...ALMOST!
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsJim SturgessHugo WeavingDavid WenhamThe young owl Soren is kidnapped by the evil owls of St. Aegolious who want to turn him into a soldier. He escapes with some of his friends and warns the mythical guardians about the evil plan.On this list purely for the aesthetic, this is, perhaps, one of the greatest looking movies of all time. The story is also great, if a little predictable at times, and sometimes the voice acting is a little over-exaggerated.
- DirectorBanksyStarsBanksyMr. BrainwashSpace InvaderFollowing the style of some of the world's most prolific street artists, an amateur filmmaker makes a foray into the art world.A fantastic art documentary that doesn't become pretentious or dull in the end. It's also the only art documentary (that I've ever seen) that manages to tell a whole story while still focusing on the art.
- DirectorAlbert HughesAllen HughesStarsDenzel WashingtonMila KunisRay StevensonA drifter fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity's salvation.Amazing imagery and writing, and the action sequences don't disappoint.
- DirectorBen CoccioStarsCal RobertsonAndre KeuckSerataren AdragnaTwo troubled adolescents chronicle the events that ultimately lead up to a terrifying assault on their school.A documentary style movie about events very similar to the columbine tragedy. It definitely shows how tragedies like these can occur and what leads to the emotional distress of the people who commit them. The buildup to zero day and the preparation they go through is extremely interesting and how they act during the shooting is eery and dark and when it's all over leaves the watcher thinking.
- DirectorElissa DownStarsRhys WakefieldLuke FordToni ColletteAll Thomas wants is a normal adolescence but his autistic brother, Charlie, thwarts his every opportunity. Will Thomas, with the help of his girlfriend, Jackie, accept his brother? This was a really good movie, mostly because it's one of the few movies that I can honestly say has nothing bad about it.
- DirectorHeidi EwingRachel GradyStarsMike PapantonioLou EngleBecky FischerA documentary on kids who attend a summer camp hoping to become the next Billy Graham. This documentary shows the dark side of fundamentalist, extremist, religion. While its scary how some of these people act, it's also hilarious to watch them go *beep* for "Jesus"
- DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsRyan GoslingCarey MulliganBryan CranstonA mysterious Hollywood action film stuntman gets in trouble with gangsters when he tries to help his neighbor's husband rob a pawn shop while serving as his getaway driver. An intelligent movie for intelligent people.
- DirectorSean EllisStarsSean BiggerstaffEmilia FoxMichelle RyanAfter a painful breakup, Ben develops insomnia. To kill time, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket, where his artistic imagination runs wild.I've never really seen a movie quite like cashback, it's basically the kind of film Donnie Darko was trying to be, without being terrible. It's a very original idea, and a very moving ending.
- DirectorJanus MetzDanish soldiers are sent to Afghanistan in 2009 for 6 months, to help stabilize the country against the Taliban. They're stationed on Armadillo military base in Helman province. Unlike other war movies, this is the real deal - no actors. This and "Restrepo" are my two favorite war documentaries, this one showing the tense waiting game that war is.
- DirectorTim HetheringtonSebastian JungerStarsThe Men of Battle Company 2nd of the 503rd Infantry Regiment 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat TeamJuan 'Doc RestrepoDan KearneyA year with one platoon in the deadliest valley in Afghanistan."Restrepo", like "Armadillo" is a very real look at war, however this one is much more violent and shows the Hell that war is.
- DirectorTomm MooreNora TwomeyStarsEvan McGuireBrendan GleesonMick LallyA young boy in a remote medieval outpost under siege from barbarian raids is beckoned to adventure when a celebrated master illuminator arrives with an ancient book, brimming with secret wisdom and powers. This movie has incredible visuals, amazing voice acting, and fantastic music. It's one of my favorite animated movies.
- DirectorTegan BukowskiLoressa ClisbyKevin MacdonaldStarsHiroaki AikawaCindy BaerTeagan BentleyA documentary shot by film-makers all over the world that serves as a time capsule to show future generations what it was like to be alive on the twenty-fourth of July, 2010.Life in a Day is as real as a documentary can be, showing the happenings from hundreds of different places around the world in one day. It shows the true human experience and somehow stays moving while not having a comprehensive story or theme.
- DirectorJohn JeffcoatStarsJosh HamiltonAyesha DharkerAsif BasraAfter his entire department is outsourced, an American novelty products salesman (Hamilton) heads to India to train his replacement. This should not be mistaken with the 2010 tv series this movie inspired, this movie is an amazing look at the transition to a foreign culture.
