- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaAfter the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.Who is the villain? Dammit Jim! Who is the villain?!? It is driving me crazy! Loved Abrams first Star Trek film in 2009 and I have been wondering where things were going to go next. Kirk's arrogance finally lands him and the crew into a serious "fight-for-your-life" situation. Can this film boldly go where few Star Trek films have gone before? I'll be looking forward to finding out....
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsBrad PittMireille EnosDaniella KerteszFormer United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop a zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatens to destroy humanity itself.Whoo buddy. These zombies can move. Really. Fast. Brad Pitt and his family better run like track stars if they are going to survive what looks to me to be the most relentless and 'maybe' (big emphasis on maybe) terrifying zombies I've ever seen on film.
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRobert Downey Jr.Guy PearceGwyneth PaltrowWhen Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.Hype can be good and it can be bad. Iron Man 2 seemed like it was hyped to hell but ended up being a MASSIVE disappointment. Now, after the fantastic film that was Marvel's The Avengers here we are again with Iron Man 3 being hyped like crazy.
There is controversy and hype surrounding the decision to cast Ben Kingsley as a character who is supposed to be, well, Mandarin. There is hype about how much 'darker' this will be than the previous films. Only time will tell what hype does to this movie but make no mistake about it, opening weekend for this movie calls my name. - DirectorNeill BlomkampStarsMatt DamonJodie FosterSharlto CopleyIn the year 2154, the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth. A man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.Sounds like a very similar film to District 9, minus the aliens angle. Despite the fact that the rich and powerful vs the poor and powerless plot has been done seemingly a million times, I'd be interested to see how this futuristic thriller plays out.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageThe dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim Erebor, their homeland, from Smaug. Bilbo Baggins is in possession of a mysterious and magical ring. The saga continues...
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.'Oh, you should thank me. With the Bifrost gone, how much dark energy did the Allfather have to muster to conjure you here, to your precious Earth?' says Loki to Thor in Marvel's The Avengers last year.
I guess we will all find out later this year. And while I don't like the fact that a different director is taking over for Branaugh I'm still looking forward to seeing what has happened as a result of Odin's actions. - DirectorLouis LeterrierStarsJesse EisenbergCommonMark RuffaloAn FBI agent and an Interpol detective track a team of illusionists who pull off bank heists during their performances, and reward their audiences with the money.Very interesting and somewhat original premise.
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.Looking forward to this sequel. I am interested to see the consequences of Katniss and Peeta's act of defiance in the original.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsJames FrancoMichelle WilliamsRachel WeiszA small-time magician is swept away to an enchanted land and is forced into a power struggle between three witches. Was just a bit curious about this movie before its release and was surprised to find that I reasonably enjoyed it when I saw it recently. Sam Raimi did a good enough job to warrant another installment.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsIdris ElbaCharlie HunnamRinko KikuchiAs a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.Treading very carefully with this one, which is why it comes in at #10 on my list. Reminds me on some level of what it would be like if Hollywood ever made a live-action Robotech or Voltron movie, only this is sort of different territory for Del Toro. I'll wait and see how he does...
