- DirectorShane BlackStarsBoyd HolbrookTrevante RhodesJacob TremblayWhen a young boy accidentally triggers the universe's most lethal hunters' return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled scientist can prevent the end of the human race.I find the Predator films to be very underrated and consistently entertaining (barring a few crossovers). Shane Black's style and sensibilities are perfect for a Predator film, and he has assembled a promising cast of up-and-comers. Oh, and Keegan Michael Key, who is just hilarious.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTye SheridanOlivia CookeBen MendelsohnWhen the creator of a virtual reality called the OASIS dies, he makes a posthumous challenge to all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune and control of his world.I first read the book back in 2014 when it looked like Chris Nolan was the frontrunner to direct. As a socially stunted, pop-culture obsessed highschooler, I loved the dickens out of it. People have criticized the book recently for reasons I can totally understand, but at its heart I still believe the book to be a gripping story with a good message.
When Steven Spielberg was announced as director I was honestly surprised but also very satisfied, because while I was hoping Matthew Vaughan or Edgar Wright, how could I balk at Steve? I hope this adaptation pleases old fans and maybe creates some new ones. - DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsRosa SalazarChristoph WaltzJennifer ConnellyA deactivated cyborg's revived, but can't remember anything of her past and goes on a quest to find out who she is.Always cool to see more obscure manga get the Hollywood treatment. Adaptation comes from Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron with an absolutely insane cast. I mean, just look at it!
- DirectorNeil MarshallStarsDavid HarbourMilla JovovichIan McShaneCaught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, Hellboy battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. As a fan of the comics and Guillermo Del Toro's films, it simultaneously warms and pains my heart that a new non-Del Toro Hellboy is underway. I also just want to point out that I, like, totally called a Hellboy reboot back in 2013.
Very promising cast and cool line-up of characters from the comics. Still holding out for Roger and Lobster Johnson. - DirectorDavid LeitchStarsRyan ReynoldsJosh BrolinMorena BaccarinFoul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (a.k.a. Deadpool) assembles a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg Cable.Very sorry to hear about Joi Harris and my thoughts go out to her loved ones.
Deadpool was my favorite comic book film from 2016. It's narrative structure was very innovative for a superhero movie, and the script was just as irreverent as I had hoped. Very excited to see Cable and Domino in live-action. - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris HemsworthMark RuffaloThe Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.Self-explanatory. I think everyone is excited for this. Even if you're a Hollywood hating auteur, you're still excited because you hope it will underperform. Which, you know it won't. Come on.
