9.3 - DirectorDanny BoyleStarsEwan McGregorEwen BremnerJonny Lee MillerRenton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out despite the allure of drugs and the influence of friends. No sugar-coating life here. This film is addiction at its most raw. It's hilarious, surreal, disturbing and amazing all at once. One of the best sets of characters of all time, each so different and great in their own ways.
9.1 - DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare.Probably the reason I was so disappointed when watching requiem for a dream afterwards. Amazing acting and story. A very real and effective descent into madness and a perfectly ambiguous ending. This film works well.
9.1 - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.Marketed as a horror but this is so much more. Only when you dive deep into the shining do you realise how great it is. Obviously very scary and disturbing but even more disturbing and psychological when you find out about and understand the sub-plots. Brilliant Jack Nicholson performance, great characters and some amazingly bizarre moments. Kubrick masterpiece.

8.5 - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsUma ThurmanDavid CarradineDaryl HannahAfter awakening from a four-year coma, a former assassin wreaks vengeance on the team of assassins who betrayed her.First class film-making. Brilliantly pulled off action sequences and even funny at some points.
9 - DirectorWes AndersonStarsJared GilmanKara HaywardBruce WillisTwo 12-year-olds, who live on an island, fall in love with each other and elope into the wilderness. While people set out on a search mission, a violent storm approaching them catches their attention.Superb use of colour. This film is engaging, emotional and not pretentious like many 'artsy' films are that imitate Wes Anderson's style.
8.4 - DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodGian Maria VolontèMarianne KochA wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge. The perfect introduction to the best trilogy of all time. Much like for a few dollars more, the characters are introduced in such a unique way and Leone's use of silence and music to convey characters' emotion is done so well.

9.4 - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.This is revolutionary film-making.
