The finale brings together a mostly coherent third season which excellently split off its cast, but ends with predictable twists and the question of why we should really be scared of the upside down if its monsters keep getting defeated.

Showing how school doesn't work for the gifted - it's a season builder opening that's pretty slow as it supports character progression. But holy s*** that ending left my jaw on the floor - gory, violent, classic horror, wtf ending.

A show that has matured with its cast - and viewers. Slap a hard R rating on these first two eps - it's darker and more violet than ever.

Didn't see any of that coming. Just as it had all seemed to be going to plan. A gripping episode that had everything from betrayals to gunshots, with an emotional punch too. One of the shows finest hours.

Builder ep that takes us inward on Eleven. The plane story was a bit far fetched. The shot to move between worlds was awesome.

Fabulous, ambitious sci-fi that has no bounds. El's story is exciting, and conflicting. The 're-experience it' arc is an inspired way to bring back her powers.

33. Stranger Things (2016–2025)
Episode: Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab (2022)

TV-14 | 98 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

As Hopper braces to battle a monster, Dustin dissects Vecna's motives -- and decodes a message from beyond. El finds strength in a distant memory.

Directors: Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer | Stars: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard

Votes: 41,208

The best episode of the entire series. Incredible writing takes us back to where it began to rediscover the truth. The Vecna twist was just wild. The setup just phenomenal to have it building unbeknown to us all this time. Reminiscent in many ways of the Tom Riddle/Voldemort twist in HP. I have sky high expectations now - this season has been the best yet.

34. Stranger Things (2016–2025)
Episode: Chapter Eight: Papa (2022)

TV-14 | 85 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

Nancy has sobering visions, and El passes an important test. Back in Hawkins, the gang gathers supplies and prepares for battle.

Directors: Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer | Stars: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard

Votes: 21,642

9.0

Thrilling and will keep you on edge of your seat - even if the story moves quite slowly in retrospect. Eleven's emotion is her power and that's never been more clear. Will's revealing conversation was amazingly done, so much so I didn't even realise till he cried it had a duality to it. Brilliant writing, the show is at the peak of its powers at present. Bring it on Vecna!

35. Stranger Things (2016–2025)
Episode: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)

TV-14 | 139 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror

With selfless hearts and a clash of metal, heroes fight from every corner of the battlefield to save Hawkins - and the world itself.

Directors: Matt Duffer, Ross Duffer | Stars: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard

Votes: 32,740

9.2

With some heartfelt moments dotted throughout, you'll find yourself sobbing regularly - even if the end result is little more than a slightly frustrating build to next season. In following a mostly expected path (particularly with Eddie's obvious arc), the finale did not surpass the quite astronomical high of Chapter Seven. Negativity aside, the power of emotion in defeating evil is the captivating core of this story which will have you rooting for every one of these expertly written heroes.
