Tom Baker is on fine form. Davros makes an amazing villain. The story is inventive and intense and all of the themes are excellently handled. The dialogue is great and witty. One of the best Doctor Who stories ever.
- DirectorPaddy RussellStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenBernard ArchardSutekh forces the Doctor to transport Scarman and a mummy to Mars, where the Doctor and Sarah try to stop them destroying the Eye of Horus.Excellent. Sutekh is an incredible villain, the Doctor has some amazing moments, the story is great, the acting is great and the writing as a whole is nail biting. Quintessential Doctor Who.
- DirectorMichael HayesStarsTom BakerLalla WardJulian GloverCount Scarlioni reveals his true form as Scaroth, the last of the Jagaroth and uses his time machine to go back in time and rewrite history. The Doctor, Romana and Duggan take to the Tardis in a race against time to stop him.Brilliant. The villain is great and well acted. The plot is engaging and well paced. The story is original. The direction, music and dialogue are all top notch as well.
- DirectorDavid MaloneyStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonMichael SpiceThe real face of Weng-Chiang is revealed as the Doctor, Leela, Jago and Litefoot face their final battle against both Magnus Greel and a trigger-happy Mr Sin.Weird story. The production design is amazing, the pacing is great and the writing, whilst extremely racist is pretty good. However, some of the story is poorly executed.
- DirectorChristopher BarryStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenPhilip MadocMorbius goes on the rampage, forcing the Doctor and Solon to team up to try and bring him back under control. The story is interesting and engaging, the villain is great and the direction is great. The Doctor and Sarah Jane both have great moments and the side characters are interesting.
- DirectorCharles NortonStarsTom BakerLalla WardChristopher NeameThe story revolves around the planet Shada, on which the Time Lords have constructed a high security prison for some of the Universe's most dangerous criminals. Skagra, a flawed genius from the planet Dronoid, wishes to create a "Universal Mind" in which all the pooled knowledge of the universe's greatest criminals would be placed at his disposal and with which he intends to take control of the Universe. Skagra wants to go to Shada to extract the knowledge of the criminals who have been imprisoned there. Unfortunately for Skagra, knowledge of the location of Shada has been deliberately hidden by the Time Lords, but Skagra discovers that there is a Time Lord living on Earth in the twentieth century who may hold the key to its location. This Time Lord is masquerading as a professor at St. Cedd's College, Cambridge and calling himself Professor Chronotis. Sensing danger, Chronotis calls for the assistance of his old friend and protégé, the Doctor. The story climaxes in a battle for control of the Universal Mind.Solid story with great acting, pretty good effects and great direction. Occasionally the animation is cheap and sure the animation-live-action mix is weird, however overall a brilliant script holds the story together.
- DirectorLennie MayneStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenJudith ParisThe Doctor and Sarah attempt to get Eldrad to the regeneration chamber but Rokon has left traps in their path.Well executed. Brilliant pacing, as great villain, interesting character arcs and a great send-off to Sarah Jane. Great production design and editing, but a lazy ending.
- DirectorRodney BennettStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterThe Doctor tries to protect the humans still in cryogenic suspension from the Wirrn, who are determined to use Earth as their new breeding ground.Great production design and story telling. The Dialogue is great and the villain is creative. An engaging and unique plot.
- DirectorMichael HayesStarsTom BakerMary TammPeter JeffreyIn a last attempt to take the throne, Count Grendel plans to have Romana wed to Reynart with the intent to kill him afterwards and take his place as her husband. When the Doctor arrives to foil his plan, the Count challenges him to a duel.A very different story with alot of great dialogue, plotting and production design. The resolution does slightly underwhelm me though. And the editing writing is occasionally flawed.
- DirectorDouglas CamfieldStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterUNIT attempt to track down the Zygon ship while Broton prepares to have the Skarasen attack London.Really fun story. Good villains and dialogue. The plot is enegetic, but weirdly paced. The editing and production design are also well done.
- DirectorDavid MaloneyStarsTom BakerGeorge PravdaBernard HorsfallThe Doctor realises the Master is planning to tap into the Time Lords' power source to extend his own life, an act that will destroy all Gallifrey. The writing is great, the acting is pretty good and the whole story was engaging and interesting, with the exception of some bad structure and poor production design.
- DirectorBarry LettsStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterThe Doctor and Sarah reach Earth and try to warn the research centre about the Kraal invasion before Styggron unleashes his virus. This story was interesting and engaging the whole way through. There's some great character arcs and plot twists. The villains are great, but the pacing occasionally drags
- DirectorPeter GrimwadeStarsTom BakerPeter DavisonJohn FraserForced to work together to save the universe from collapsing, the Doctor, the Master and Tegan use the Master's Tardis to travel to a giant satellite dish on Earth. Meanwhile Adric and Nyssa are taken to safety by the mysterious Watcher.Well paced and unique. The direction and editing are great. The acting is mediocre and the final part is quite mixed, however I really like the story and music. A good sendoff.
- 1963–198925mNot Rated7.0 (424)TV EpisodeDirectorMichael HayesStarsTom BakerMary TammJohn WoodvineRomana looks on as Princess Astra turns herself into the sixth segment of the Key to Time, giving the Shadow ultimate power. The Doctor and Drax arrive just in time but for the Doctor one final trial remains.A great finale. The story is interesting and well told. The acting is good, with the exception of some boring characters. Some of the plot is too stretched, however the good villain and plotting saves the story.
- DirectorMichael E. BriantStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonRussell HunterWith secrecy no longer necessary for the robot revolution, Controller Taren Capel shuts down all friendly robots and gives the remaining humans an ultimatum, or else their deaths will be slow and painful. With no conventional weaponry aboard their commercial vessel, the humans do what they can to resist while giving the Doctor time to work out a permanent solution.Way better than expected. I love the murder-mystery of this story. The human characters are great, and the tension is brilliant. The pacing suffers though the villain quite boring.
- DirectorRodney BennettStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterThe Doctor learns that Styre has been experimenting on the Galsec crewmembers to pave the way for a Sontaran invasion of Earth and decides the only way to halt his plans is to challenge him to a duel.Very interesting and well executed story. The only problem is that the episode is too short and skims over many plot elements.
- DirectorPeter GrimwadeStarsTom BakerLalla WardGeorge BakerAs the Marshmen begin pouring into the Starliner thanks to an infected Romana, the Doctor and Adric hurry to create an antidote but in doing so discover a deep secret about the Marshmen and their connection to Adric's people.A very unique premise and good dialogue make for an enjoyable story. I really don't like Adric, however Romana gets some good moments and the direction is great.
- DirectorDarrol BlakeStarsTom BakerMary TammBeatrix LehmannAboard a hyperspace prison ship, two justice machines called the Megara, known for swift verdicts and harsh punishments, arrest the Doctor for breaking an infraction, with trial and execution to be carried out immediately.Pretty Good. The plot is good, as is the storytelling and music, however the pacing drags the plot down, as does some bad writing.
- DirectorPennant RobertsStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonBrendan PriceAs the Saveteem and Tesh finally close in for a fight to the death, the powerful but long-suffering Xoanon ignores their strife to commit its full resources toward killing the Doctor, even to the extent of destroying everyone.Interesting concepts and villain. Leela was a fresh, new companion and Tom Baker is on fine form. The pacing is kinda weird though.
- DirectorPennant RobertsStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonRichard LeechAttempting to start a successful revolution, the Doctor uses Pluto's Public Address System to announce successful revolution, all the while trying to determine the Collector's true species and why he, or it, seems set on taxing the life out of humans.Good Story. The themes are well handled and the characters great, however there is some weird pacing and plot elements. It's still well written and well directed.
- DirectorDouglas CamfieldStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenTony BeckleyChase is obviously under Krynoid control. The Doctor suspects possession but, with the mountainous Krynoid nearing maturity and whacking the mansion to pieces, he concerns himself with the bigger picture and orders the mansion - with Sarah and him still inside - to be bombed. The plot is well paced and has some interesting characters moments. The villains were kinda lame, but their dialogue were great. The acting and rodution design were also great, but the plot failed to make me that invested.
- DirectorJohn BlackStarsTom BakerMatthew WaterhouseAnthony AinleyWith the merciless Melkur in control of The Source, the Doctor and his allies have only a slim chance of deposing him, which also puts the peace of the Traken Union in severe jeopardy. This story is very ambitious and bold, with good directing and music, however the pacing is dull and the villains aren't very engaging. The rest of the characters are well handled, in an interesting story.
- DirectorChristopher BarryStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterUNIT attempt to get into the bunker to stop Miss Winters setting off the world's nuclear missiles but first they have to get past the K1.Decent starter. Some great Doctor-Companion moments and great writing, but an uninspired story and slow pacing.
- DirectorPaddy RussellStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonColin DouglasWith little to fear, and its mother ship about to land and turn Earth into an alien attack base, the electrically charged Rutan scout drops its human guise and attacks openly.Typical Doctor Who. I liked the villain, the side characters and the production design, but nothing stood out. I enjoyed it, but there wasn't too much substance.
- DirectorDavid MaloneyStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenFrederick JaegerThe Doctor tries to convince Sorenson to sacrifice himself for the rest of the crew but Salamar's attempt to deal with the situation causes their problem to multiply.Average. The villain is boring, but the dialogue and supporting characters are great. Still entertaining, but nothing special.
- DirectorPaul JoyceStarsTom BakerLalla WardMatthew WaterhouseAfter the Doctor and Romana save the Tharil race, Romana agrees to leave the Doctor to become the Tharils' "Queen of Time."Very mixed. The production design is great at some points, but the effects are horrible. The acting isn't very good, however the plot is very ambitious and interesting.
- DirectorGeorge Spenton-FosterStarsTom BakerMary TammIain CuthbertsonThe Doctor returns to the city to keep an eye on the Graff, leaving Romana, K9 and Garron to search for Unstoffe and the first segment. However, Garron double crosses them and steals the tracer.Fine. The Doctor and Romana have some great chemistry, however the plot surrounding them is quite dull. Everything else is just average.
- 1963–198925mTV-PG7.3 (505)TV EpisodeDirectorRodney BennettStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenNorman JonesWith Mandragora having taken complete control of the brethren, the Doctor tries to find a way to drain off the Mandragora energy on Earth before it wipes out the guests at Giuliano's masque.I can hardly remember this story. I remember everything being average. The plot, villain, characters and direction are all average. The production design is great, as is Tom Baker, but the pacing sucks and it serves no purpose.
- DirectorAlan BromlyStarsTom BakerLalla WardLewis FianderAfter succeeding in separating the two merged ships, the Doctor discovers the identities of the drug runners. He, Romana and K-9 endeavor to catch them cleverly while also avoiding both the excise men wanting to shoot them and the marauding mandrels just wanting to kill anyone in sight.Underrated? The production design is great and the dialogue is pretty good as well, however a unique, interesting plot is completely squandered in execution. The directing and acting suck, as well as some awful pacing.
- DirectorGeorge Spenton-FosterStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonWanda VenthamWith one of the archaeologists transformed and a massive implosion threatening, the Fendahl and its Fendahleen components start coming into existence while the Doctor, Leela and the Tylers do what they can to stop it.Pretty Good. It had a unique plot and villain, but the characters were given little to do. Some good writing, but quite dull pacing.
- DirectorPeter MoffattStarsTom BakerLalla WardMatthew WaterhouseThe Lords prepare to sacrifice Romana and induct Adric into their ranks as part of their plan to awaken the "Great One" and escape E-Space. Meanwhile the Doctor and K9 assist Kalmar's men in attacking the tower. This story just doesn't fit. The production feels quite limited and the pacing sucks. The acting is very wooden and the direction is very average.
- 1963–198926mTV-PG7.2 (500)TV EpisodeDirectorKen GrieveStarsTom BakerLalla WardTim BarlowTo break the centuries-old stalemate in their war, the Movellans need the Doctor, as do the Daleks Davros. The solution is simple, but neither side can see it, nor would the Doctor upset this perfect and unplanned peace they've achieved. Davros, though, is another matter.A waste of potential. Davros is awfully treated and the movellans are dumb and boring side creatures. I do, however find the robot vs robot idea interesting, and Baker and Ward have great chemistry.
- DirectorMichael E. BriantStarsTom BakerElisabeth SladenIan MarterThe Doctor, Harry and Lester try to destroy the Cybermen's relay device, while the Vogans prepare to destroy Nerva even though Sarah is still on board. The Cybermen are completely useless to the story. The other villains are mediocre and plot is very dull. The dialogue and production design are still great though, so overall I think it's not too bad.
- DirectorPennant RobertsStarsTom BakerMary TammBruce PurchaseThe Doctor reveals the truth about the real power on Zanak and must try and stop the Captain and Xanxia before Earth becomes their next victim. The Actors are trying way too hard, the plot is dumb and the resolution is overly bombastic. The production design is really cheap. It's only mildly saved by the dialogue and light nature
- DirectorNorman StewartStarsTom BakerMary TammNeil McCarthyThe Doctor races to stop Thawn from destroying the Swampie settlement and then works to destroy Kroll once and for all.Lazy. The whole story looks cheap. The story is generic and the pacing drags. The dialogue is good, but overall the story is just too forgettable.
- 1963–198924mTV-PG6.8 (415)TV EpisodeDirectorChristopher BarryStarsTom BakerLalla WardMyra FrancesFull revelation of Adrasta's wicked acts in maintaining her planetary monopoly on metal brings her reign to an end, but the victimized alien creature holds a secret: massive interstellar retribution for her crimes is headed their way, with doom for all, including those whose current short-sighted actions undermine the Doctor's efforts to save the planet in order to become new leaders of the old metal monopoly. This whole story feels lifeless and dull. K9's new voice is horrible and most of the acting is lackluster. Romana has some good moments, but at the expense of the Doctor. The writing is flat and uninteresting, and leaves a lot to be desired.
- DirectorGerald BlakeStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonDerek DeadmanThe Doctor and his friends take refuge in the TARDIS but find themselves pursued by Stor and Kelner.Ridiculously cheap. Nicely adds to the Doctor Who mythology and The Doctor and Leela have some great moments, however the ending feels rushed and is truly awful. The Vardans were terrible villains, the acting was was bad and pacing dragged. Overall, an OK story that fails in execution.
- DirectorKenny McBainStarsTom BakerLalla WardGraham CrowdenWhile the Doctor endeavors to amend putting Romana in great peril, she experiences a foretaste of Skonnos's fate on the ravaged planet Crinoth, and a shocked but undeterred Soldeed gets a glimmer of how he's been used by the Nimon.Weird. The plot is quite interesting, however the direction isn't too good. The production design is cheap and the acting sucks. It's hilariously dumb at some points.
- DirectorDerrick GoodwinStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonFrederick JaegerIn trying to retrieve the clones from inside the Doctor, the alien virus is brought from the microbial world into the macro-world, and it's ready to spawn.Very stupid. The villains were fine and I liked the addition of K9, but the plot was too slow and far-fetched for me to enjoy it. The story resolves itself quite weirdly as well.
- DirectorTerence DudleyStarsTom BakerLalla WardBill FraserWith the Doctor about to be ritualistically sacrificed to appease the god Ti for stealing the dodecahedron, Meglos and the pirates return to Zolfa-Thura with the dodecahedron to fire up an ancient weapon and blast Tigella out of existence.Really dumb. Bad acting and a stupid plot drive this story into hopelessness. There's still a massive lack of life throughout the story, making it a bizarre showcase of colour. The Production design and music are good, however.
- DirectorNorman StewartStarsTom BakerLouise JamesonJames MaxwellWith the Trog revolt close to success, the Oracle grants the Minyos travelers what they seek (the long lost race bank) in hopes they'll depart peacefully and straight away, but the Doctor suspects it's not all going to be as amicable as that. And what to do about the Trogs?BORING. The plot is completely meaningless and far too ambitious. The effects look bad, the characters are boring and the pacing is horrible. Completely forgettable.
- DirectorLovett BickfordStarsTom BakerLalla WardAdrienne CorriWith the saboteur and murderer revealed and arrested, peace should now be restored, but a new threat emerges - a war-monger who's both ready and eager to aggress upon other worlds with a newly manufactured warrior army.Awful. Tom Baker couldn't care less, the plotting is dull and nonsensical and the editing sucks. The pacing is dull and the direction is way too bombastic.
