- DirectorAnna BodenRyan FleckStarsBrie LarsonSamuel L. JacksonBen MendelsohnCarol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.I loved this movie and I don't really care what anyone else thinks of me for that opinion. 9.5/10
- DirectorJoachim RønningStarsAngelina JolieElle FanningHarris DickinsonMaleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies, and dark new forces at play.As someone who genuinely likes the first film, I was pretty curious to see what they would do with a sequel. It was an odd choice to give it sequel in the first place but honestly, I think they did a really good job with this. The visuals and action are still breathtaking to watch, especially on the big screen, the story is interesting, and much darker than the original (war and genocide are topics that are handled), and every character is at least given something to do. The three fairies are significantly scaled back, which I'm thankful for as they were my only real problem with the first movie. However, even they play a part. I also love the symbolism involving a phoenix, which I won't spoil here as I hope more people will see this movie. Overall, it's at least as good as the first movie, if not better. 9.5/10
- DirectorRebecca SugarJoseph D. JohnstonKat MorrisStarsZach CallisonMichaela DietzEstelleSteven thinks his time defending the Earth is over, but when a new threat comes to Beach City, Steven faces his biggest challenge yet. While newbies can watch this movie, this is truly a movie for the fans. The animation and music are amazing, the old characters are well-used, and it's overall just a fun watch despite a few fumbles here and there. 9.5/10
- DirectorChris BuckJennifer LeeStarsKristen BellIdina MenzelJosh GadAnna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven leave Arendelle to travel to an ancient, autumn-bound forest of an enchanted land. They set out to find the origin of Elsa's powers in order to save their kingdom. This was a really interesting movie. I didn't know what they could do with it but they did a lot. They expand on things in the first movie while adding in new things to make it interesting. It's all very fun. Olaf and Sven are a little useless, but the story and twists are fun to watch, the music is top notch, and the animation is downright gorgeous. 9/10
- DirectorDean DeBloisStarsJay BaruchelAmerica FerreraF. Murray AbrahamWhen Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek the Hidden World, a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first. The real world allegory is so obvious here it hurts. I can't believe I didn't notice it in the other movies. Other than that, it's just as good as the other HTTYD movies if not better, even if the romantic subplot is basically Rio with dragons. 9/10
- DirectorMike MitchellStarsChris PrattElizabeth BanksWill ArnettIt's been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing the huge new threat of Lego Duplo, invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. Why aren't more people watching this?! It's a great sequel, possibly better than the first one. It's hilarious, intelligent, and even mature at some points. I haven't laughed this hard at a movie since Kung Fu Panda 3. Everyone should see it. 9/10
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandSamuel L. JacksonJake GyllenhaalFollowing the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.Tony Stark is everywhere. This movie will not let you forget. Still, this was a great movie. I love all the characters, the humour really works, and the action is gripping. (Be sure to see both end credits scenes as both are extremely important this time around.) 9/10
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTim RobbinsMorgan FreemanBob GuntonOver the course of several years, two convicts form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion.Yeah it's just as good as everyone says. I have nothing to add. 9/10
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterAlan RickmanThe legendary tale of a barber who returns from wrongful imprisonment to 1840s London, bent on revenge for the rape and death of his wife, and resumes his trade while forming a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. This movie is similar to Repo! in a way. Both have very out of the box stories, an odd style of music, and both are very violent and gross. I'm not sure which one I like better, to be honest. 9/10
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloAfter the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos' actions and restore balance to the universe.Overall spoiler-free verdict of the film: I hate the time travel but in a way, it does make sense if you consider the physics of the Quantum realm. The action is absolutely breathtaking, the characters are all amazingly handled, except Loki who gets no love, and some of the themes of the film are actually quite deep and meaningful when you take the time to look into them. There are still a lot of problems logic-wise and the pacing could be better but overall, the pros do outweigh the cons and this was a joy to watch. 8.5/10
- DirectorBob PersichettiPeter RamseyRodney RothmanStarsShameik MooreJake JohnsonHailee SteinfeldTeen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities.I didn't know where this movie was going throughout most of it so I was pretty thoroughly engaged. 8/10
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsRoy ScheiderRobert ShawRichard DreyfussWhen a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Cape Cod, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down.I'm not sure why this took me so long to see but this was a very well-made movie. It isn't your typical horror movie filled with jump-scares and scary creatures. The fear factor comes from the unknown and simultaneous dread of what will happen. The deaths gradually become more frightening as we see more of the shark up to the end where a character is actually eaten alive. Needless to say, it's a very well made movie. 8/10
- DirectorJosh CooleyStarsTom HanksTim AllenAnnie PottsWhen a new toy called "Forky" joins Woody and the gang, a road trip alongside old and new friends reveals how big the world can be for a toy. This movie really wasn't needed but I am glad I watched it. This was a fun time with absolutely gorgeous animation though the side characters could've been utilized more and the ending didn't quite feel earned. 7.5/10
- DirectorChris RenaudJonathan del ValStarsPatton OswaltKevin HartHarrison FordContinuing the story of Max and his pet friends, following their secret lives after their owners leave them for work or school each day. This movie is funny but also kind of deep at times. That is all. 8/10
- DirectorTheodore MelfiStarsTaraji P. HensonOctavia SpencerJanelle MonáeThe story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program. As a history nerd, this was an interesting watch. 7.5/10
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsWill SmithMena MassoudNaomi ScottAladdin, a kind thief, woos Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah, with the help of Genie. When Jafar, the grand vizier, tries to usurp the king, Jasmine, Aladdin and Genie must stop him from succeeding. This movie wasn't just the animated movie scene for scene in live action. Some story elements are altered and usually for the better. Jasmine is given much more character, she has an amazing song about her as an individual), and her arc has a much more satisfying conclusion. Aladdin himself also still has his charm and while no one can replace Robin Williams (may he rest in peace), Will Smith does a good job here. However, some parts are rushed through (the first scene with the Cave of Wonders) and some things just looked better in classic animation. As for how it compares to the original, I'd say some elements are definitely better here but others were better there. It really just depends on what you're looking for. 7.5/10
- DirectorGary RossStarsTobey MaguireJeff DanielsJoan AllenTwo 1990s teenage siblings find themselves transported to a 1950s sitcom where their influence begins to profoundly change that colorless, complacent world.I thought this movie would be a typical, silly movie but oh I was so wrong. The second the "no colored" sign popped up I knew exactly what this movie was about and the allegory works pretty well. 7.5/10
- DirectorDoug LimanStarsTom CruiseEmily BluntBill PaxtonA soldier fighting aliens gets to relive the same day over and over again, the day restarting every time he dies.(For the record, I think "Live Die Repeat" is a much more fitting title.) This movie makes some leaps in logic and is overall really weird but I still thoroughly enjoyed this and didn't always know where it was going to go, adding to the intrigue. My only real issue with the story is the honestly forced romance. I'm sick and tired of the male and female leads getting together just because they're a male and female. It's very hetero-normative and paints a faulty picture of what love is since these two characters hardly had any chemistry. Other than that, it was a fun ride. 7.5/10
- DirectorPhil JohnstonRich MooreStarsJohn C. ReillySarah SilvermanGal GadotSix years after the events of "Wreck-It Ralph," Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure. This was a lot better than I thought it would be, though there are a lot of jokes in it that only Internet Savvy people like myself are going to get. Oh well, me and my brother got a kick out of it. I also appreciate that it's focused on a platonic relationship rather than the typical romantic relationship in every other Disney movie. 7.5/10
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsRami MalekLucy BoyntonGwilym LeeThe story of the legendary British rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid (1985).You named the entire movie after a song that you didn't even play the entirety of and it's one of Queen's best and most iconic songs. Are you out of your freaking minds?! The movie's pretty good by the way, and I love Queen. 7/10
- DirectorTim BurtonMike JohnsonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterEmily WatsonWhen a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. This was weird. Like really weird but it was fun to watch and had it's moments of heart so I'd say it's a pretty good movie. (Also, it reminds me of Phantom of the Opera so it gets a few bonus points in my heart.) 7/10
- DirectorAlexandre EspigaresStarsRaphaël PersonnazVirginie EfiraDominique PinonBased on the timeless novel by Jack London. A loyal wolfdog's curiosity leads him on the adventure of a lifetime while serving a series of three distinctly different masters.I've never read the book but I thought this movie was cute. 7/10
- DirectorBaz LuhrmannStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCarey MulliganJoel EdgertonA writer and wall street trader, Nick Carraway, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby, amid the riotous parties of the Jazz Age.This is a decent adaptation of the book, though some notable details are left out (like Tom being an abusive piece of crap is barely touched on and Myrtle should be a plus-size model. She is literally described as a thickish figure with wide hips. Making her a literal twig in this movie is pretty offensive.) Also, the modern music is incredibly out of place in a movie taking place in 1920s. Overall though, this movie is a decent adaptation. The actors are all quite fitting, it's visually impressive, and the spirit of the book is generally kept. 7/10
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsBruce WillisSamuel L. JacksonRobin WrightA man learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident.I also watched this movie in class and thoroughly enjoyed it. 7/10
- DirectorDavid LoweryStarsBryce Dallas HowardRobert RedfordOakes FegleyThe adventures of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who happens to be a dragon. No, I haven't seen the original. Yes, I like this movie. 7/10
- DirectorIshi RudellKatrina HadleyStarsAshleigh BallAndrea LibmanRebecca ShoichetRarity's friendship with Applejack is tested when Vignette Valencia hires her as her new designer for a theme park parade. Not nearly as good as Forgotten Friendship but still pretty enjoyable. 6.5/10
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacThe surviving Resistance faces the First Order once again in the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. This movie was a ridiculous, incohesive mess and even outright stupid and infuriating at times but it is overall enjoyable, 6.5/10
- DirectorJerry ReesStarsJon LovitzTimothy StackTimothy E. DayA group of dated appliances embark on a journey to the city to find their master after being abandoned in a cabin in the woods. This movie is kind of ridiculous but it's kind of sweet. 6.5/10
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsChristopher ReeveRichard PryorMargot KidderSynthetic kryptonite laced with tar splits Superman in two: good Clark Kent and bad Man of Steel. The story of this movie is very scattered and messy mostly due to the pacing. Some parts are rushed and some parts are padded. The effects also haven't aged well. However, this movie is a good time with some interesting ideas and I like the romance between Clark and Lana. 6.5/10
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLeonardo DiCaprioTom HanksChristopher WalkenBarely 17 yet, Frank is a skilled forger who has passed as a doctor, lawyer and pilot. FBI agent Carl becomes obsessed with tracking down the con man, who only revels in the pursuit.I watched this movie for class. I don't think much of it but it was pretty well-made. 6.5/10
- DirectorFelix van GroeningenStarsSteve CarellMaura TierneyJack Dylan GrazerBased on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, Beautiful Boy chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. This was really powerful but simultaneously hard to watch. 6.5/10
- DirectorIvan ReitmanStarsKevin KlineSigourney WeaverFrank LangellaAn uncanny Presidential lookalike named Dave is recruited by the Secret Service to become a momentary stand-in for the President of the United States. This was another movie I watched for a class and while silly, I think this is a good movie. Similar to Live Die Repeat, I do take issue with the romance being somewhat forced but admittedly it wasn't as bad here. Overall, good movie but not one I'm in a hurry to rewatch. It was a silly, well-made distraction and not much more. 6.5/10
- DirectorLevan GabriadzeStarsHeather SossamanMatthew BohrerCourtney HalversonA group of online chatroom friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.Unfriended has a very unique concept when it comes to its presentation but due to this, the movie can sometimes drag in places during the first half. It picks up entertainment after the first death and can be genuinely creepy at times but the final jump-scare was really cheap and fumbled with the genius setup. 6.5/10
- DirectorCraig GillespieStarsRyan GoslingEmily MortimerPaul SchneiderA delusional young man strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet. This movie was weird. It's got heart but I didn't get anything from it. 6/10
- DirectorLee Toland KriegerStarsBlake LivelyMichiel HuismanHarrison FordA young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into.I don't like the romance in this movie. They lead male is creepy and it's weird how Adaline goes from one guy to his son. Other than that, the movie is fine. 5/10
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsJames StewartGrace KellyWendell CoreyA wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbors from his Greenwich Village courtyard apartment window and, despite the skepticism of his fashion-model girlfriend, becomes convinced one of them has committed murder. This movie was made and takes place in the past, which automatically puts at a disadvantage in my eyes. As you can expect, there is casual sexism and misogyny everywhere you look. And the story and characters aren't even interesting enough for me to look past it. It's not bad, just boring and dull. 5/10
- DirectorJohn HughesStarsEmilio EstevezJudd NelsonMolly RingwaldFive high school students meet in Saturday detention and discover how they have a great deal more in common than they thought. This movie is extremely outdated and it shows. My problems with this movie are the same problems I had with Grease. The story moves in random directions, the characters are all unlikeable assholes throughout the whole film, the conflict is stupid, and the moral that they teach with one of the romances is insulting, disgusting, and sexist. If you have to change who you are for someone to like you, it is not a healthy relationship. You should be comfortable being yourself around your partner and you can't do that if you're constantly pretending to be someone you're not. Overall, I don't see why anyone likes this movie. 3/10
