Premiere at ATG 1962-1967
Here's a list based on the appendix in Go Hirasawa ed., ATG: Yuigon. It shows the titles (foreign and Japanese) that were shown (many of them premieres) in Shinjuku Bunka and other outlets of Art Theatre Guild (ATG). Many of us know ATG indirectly as the producer of the independent films of Oshima, Shinoda, Yoshida, Hani, Matsumoto and others (eg. Death by Hanging, Boy, Eros Plus Massacre, Double Suicide, Inferno of First Love, and Funeral Parade of Roses), but ATG was also a cultural hub, with its flagship theater Shinjuku Art Theater attracting the likes of the Buto dancer Tatsumi Hijikata, the film-maker turned Red Army radical activist Masao Adachi, and the ultra-nationalist playwright Yukio Mishima. This list highlights the often overlooked role ATG played in introducing many of the "new" cinemas of the French New Wave, New Hollywood, Polish School among others.
Missing in the list (due to IMDB's omission) is Kota Mori's independent film "Kawa anouragirigaomoku" which premiered on August 30th 1967.
