- DirectorHideo KojimaStarsDavid HayterPatric ZimmermanPeter LurieA crack government anti-terrorist squad takes over an obscure Alaskan nuclear disposal facility. Solid Snake is up for the task to infiltrate the facility, rescue the two hostages and thwart the terrorists' plans.Naomi: Each person is born with their fate written into their own genetic code. It's unchangeable, immutable. But that's not all there is to life. I finally realise that. I told you before, the reason that I was interested in genes and DNA - because I wanted to know who I was, where I came from. I thought that if I analysed my DNA, I could find out who I was, who my parents were, and I thought that if I knew that, then I'd know what path I should take in life. But I was wrong. I didn't find anything. I didn't learn anything. Just like with the genome soldiers, you can input all the genetic information, but that doesn't make them into the strongest soldiers. The most we can say about DNA is that it governs a person's potential strengths, potential destiny. You mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate, to be ruled by your genes. Humans can choose the type of life they want to live. Snake, whether or not you're in the FoxDie programme isn't important. The important thing is that you choose life, and then live. Don't you think, Snake? Don't worry. I'm going to choose life too. Until today, I've always looked for a reason to live, but from hereon, I'm going to just live.
Psycho Mantis: And each mind that I peered into was stuffed with the same single object of obsession. That selfish and atavistic desire to pass on one's seed. It was enough to make me sick. Every living thing on this planet exists to mindlessly pass on their DNA. We're designed that way, and that's why there is war. But you, you are different. You're the same as us. We have no past, no future. We live in the moment. That's our only purpose. Humans weren't designed to bring each other happiness. From the moment we're thrown into this world, we're fated to bring each other nothing but pain and misery. The first person whose mind I dove into was my father's. I saw nothing but disgust and hatred for me in his heart. My mother died in childbirth, and he despised me for it. I thought my father was going to kill me. That's when my future disappeared. I lost my past as well. When I came to, the village was engulfed in flames. - DirectorMark SchwarzStarsMichael HaleyGlynnis TalkenMichael GoughIt is a horrible era for the formerly peaceful town of Tristram. Prince Albrect is missing, King Leoric is dead, and demonic raids are now commonplace. You are one of the heroes, who visits Tristram to slay whatever is causing this horror.Narrator: Take heed and bear witness to the truths that lie herein, for they are the last legacy of the Horadrim. Nearly 300 years ago, it came to be known that the three prime evils of the Burning Hells had mysteriously come to our world. The three brothers ravaged the lands of the east for decades, while humanity was left trembling in their wake. Our order, the Horadrim, was founded by a group of secretive magi to hunt down and capture the three evils once and for all. The original Horadrim captured two of the three within powerful artefacts known as soulstones, and buried them deep beneath the desolate eastern sands. The third evil escaped capture and fled to the west with many of the Horadrim in pursuit. The third evil, known as Diablo, the lord of terror, was eventually captured. His essence set in a soulstone and buried within this labyrinth. Be warned that the soulstone must be kept from discovery by those not of the faith. If Diablo were to be released, he would seek a body that is easily controlled, as he would be very weak. Perhaps that of an old man or a child.
Priest: I seek a champion to undertake a serious duty, and the people of this town speak well of your courage and skill. The archbishop Lazarus, once King Leoric's most trusted adviser and a member of our order, has taken the path of evil. Not long ago, Lazarus led a party of simple townsfolk into the labyrinth to find the king's missing son, Albrecht. Only a few of them escaped with their lives. Curse me for a fool. I should have suspected his veiled treachery then, for I have learned that it was Lazarus himself who kidnapped Leoric's son and has since hidden him within the labyrinth. I still don't understand why the archbishop has turned to the darkness, or what his interest is in Albrecht. Unless he means to sacrifice him at the full moon. That must be what he has planned. The survivors of his rescue party say that Lazarus was last seen in the deepest bowels of the labyrinth, some 16 levels beneath the cathedral. You must hurry and save the prince from the sacrificial blade of this demented fiend.
Storyteller: Farnham has taken to drinking quite heavily since his encounters in the labyrinth. But within the ramblings of this drunken man rests a legend well steeped in myth and mystery. Sit for a moment, my friend, and let me tell you of Izual and Azurewrath. The saga of Izual takes place during the lost battles in Hell. Izual was an angel who was given charge of the holy runeblade Azurewrath. Leading a daring assault on the Hellforge, Izual was set upon by hundreds of blackened demons and was fatally wounded. The fiends cast the dying angel into a dark pit, where the powers of chaos transformed him as he drowned in a whirlpool of burning blood. Evil possessed Izual. The feathers of his wings burned away to reveal leatherish skin, and horns ripped through the flesh of his head. When he finally rose from that black pit, Izual was an angel no more. Transformed into a creature of evil, he was once again given charge of Azurewrath, assuring that the blade would never again be used against the denizens of Hell.
Narrator: The soulstone burns with hellfire as an eerie red glow blurs your vision. Fresh blood flows into your eyes and you begin to hear the tormented whispers of the damned. You have done what you knew must be done. The essence of Diablo is contained, for now. You pray that you have become strong enough to contain the demon and keep him at bay. Although you have been fortified by your quest, you can still feel him clawing his way up from the dark recesses of your soul. Fighting to retain control, your thoughts turn toward the ancient mystic lands of the far east. Perhaps there, beyond the desolate wastes of Aranoch, you will find an answer, or perhaps salvation. - StarsTamara FeintuchDael FosterAdam KellyPlaying as one of four unique races, you must fight for complete control and domination over the land, either in a single quest or in an entire saga.Narrator: Chaos ... chaos was inevitable. Signs aligned themselves as an ill omen. Havoc is upon the lands, and history will be written with the blood of the vanquished. For as the stars bejewel the darkening sky, evil lurking in obscurity is twisting and corrupting souls. The gods themselves watch silently as the disciples prepare their minions for the tasks ahead. Chaos has begun anew. Four realms will wage war, sealing the fate of their race and ensuring the existence of their gods. Bethrezen, prince of darkness, monarch of the legions of the damned. Wotan, guardian of the sacred forge, and god of the mountain clans. Mortis, creator of plague and pestilence, master of the undead hordes. The High Father, god of light, grand protector of the empire. Cowards should not venture out in the dark ages to come, as many will die and blood will flow relentlessly upon the battlefields, for it is the victor in battle who writes history.
Narrator: Witness of the creation of the world, Bethrezen intends to await its downfall. Bethrezen, prince of hell, was the most beautiful of all angels. His great beauty naturally made him the favourite of the High Father, who granted him the power to create all things. When he, to thank the High Father of his divine gift, created a magnificent world, jealous and malevolent angels corrupted the inhabitants and transformed it into chaos. The High Father, furious at the sight of such blasphemy, imprisoned the unholy one in his vile world. 6,000 years, 6,000 years of torment had Bethrezen endured awaiting vengeance. Alas, the divine curse flickered, splitting its shell and releasing the unholy spawn into the world of humans. For their grip to be complete, the legions of the damned had to spread destruction across the land. Their kind would not survive long without their infernal element to sustain them. As such, they sent their baronesses to ruthlessly scorch the lands, incinerating the flesh of all the inhabitants. - StarsJ. Grant AlbrechtDee Bradley BakerMichael BellA demonic invasion at Union Aerospace Corporation's Mars Research Facility has left only you and a handful of survivors with the chance to fight your way to safety. For generations, Humankind has lived under the looming spectre of slowly-dwindling natural resources. Our new ventures on planets like Mars have only intensified our need to find fresh sources for metals, petrochemicals, food, water, and even air. To meet that need, UAC researchers have developed dramatic solutions. Solutions that will soon pay off for the UAC, its investors, and indeed the entire human race. Mars itself is our chief ally and the key to our solution. Look around at its vast red deserts, rich in naturally occurring iron oxides. They are the raw materials of our future. We have developed a process that destabilises the atomic structure of pulverised iron oxide and separates it into subatomic particles, which are then siphoned off to create new elements. Like alchemists of old, the elemental phase deconstructor allows us to transform red Martian soil into clean air, fresh water, and hydrogen fuel, the building blocks for a sustainable human-friendly Martian environment. And this is only the beginning. With continued research, we envision creating ever more complex molecules, even organic matter itself. Atom by atom, the UAC is building an ever brighter future for Humankind.
Since the dawn of the space age, Union Aerospace has been at the forefront of not only developing new technology, but pushing those developments to even more daring extremes. With an abundant production of hydrogen fuel, thanks to the Hydrocon, the specialist teams ask the big question: can we devise a way to store and deliver that fuel to make the dream of deep space research a reality? The answer has been a resounding yes. Under the direction of Dr. Malcolm Betruger, key UAC scientists have made startling new discoveries in the fields of quantum physics, and with them they have been able to use the actual space between electrons and protons in a molecule as a storage medium for fuel in our interplanetary anti-matter drives. Now, fuel that would once take up half the payload of an interplanetary ship, only occupies a fraction of that space. You are looking at the Molecular Fuel Storage Compactor. The MFS Compressor is yet another UAC marvel that brings the dream of reaching and colonising the most distant planets closer to a reality. The UAC has long made safer worlds for everyone, and now they will bring those worlds even closer than you could ever imagine.
This is Dr. Pierce Rogers, lead archaeologist currently stationed on Mars. As the preliminary reports have suggested, we have made some amazing discoveries here on Mars. Life on Mars has long been theorised, but we never imagined anything like this. The initial chamber was discovered in 2115. It leads into what is now known as Site 1. Site 1 is the largest of the sites and we are still actively working there. It is made up of a series of chambers and connecting tunnels, all of which are covered in glyphs and symbols. Using the UAC Pattern Processor, we have finally been able to understand some of the glyphs, and from them here is what we have learned. The ancient people looked like us, at least to the extent that they were bipedal and were similiar in shape and size. Their level of technology was astounding. For instance, the glyphs at each site were carved into the rock by some sort of machine, and each one is precisely cut from the stone. It far exceeds the precision of anything we can do. They had a social structure that seemed very aristorcratic, with a lot of emphasis on social stature and structure. Site 2 is a much smaller set of chambers, mostly containing burial sites, temples and various amounts of individual artefacts. This site has been photographed and cleared out, and all material is back on Earth for study and review. Site 3 produced our prize artefact, what we call the Soul Cube. If you have read or seen the other material, you probably know that this once grand civilisation was attacked by some unknown force, and if we can believe what is written in stone, they sacrificed most of their society to drive the invaders back. There are additional reports filed on the Soul Cube with central administration. We also recovered several other device-type artefacts. They are not as ornate as the Soul Cube, but each appears unique. We are still learning how to interpret all of the glyphs and hopefully, once we have that completed, the science teams can provide more detailed information on their technology. Now, these are truly unique and special times for archaeologists. - DirectorMichel KripalaniStarsGraham JarvisGeno AndrewsMinako NakamuraTemporal agent Gage Blackwood must stop a xenophobic rogue scientist, Dr. Elliot Sinclair, the inventor of time travel technology, before he and his robots change history and stop Earth from joining the galactic alien community. The year is 2318. The location, the skyborne metropolis known as Caldoria. The Earth is finally at peace after a long bloody battle against a few tyrants who sought total world domination. Having learned the hard way the evils of imperialism, the borders began to come down one by one. Finally, in the year 2117, the unified world was realised. Now, all that we have accomplished is being threatened by the power of time travel. Realising its potential for destruction, the very same democrants who initiated the building of the time machine immediately discontinued the project once they saw a working prototype. Temporal travel now being a reality, they brought the time machine to a secret location and formed an agency to protect the flow of history. The project, codename Journeyman.
The particle accelerating space-time transporter, Version One, otherwise known as Pegasus, was the brainchild of part-time historian, full-time physicist Elliott Sinclair. In 2311, after seeing Sinclair's time bending experiments, the government contracted him to build a full scale operational time machine. The purpose of this device was to explore our past, as well as to discover the truth behind many disputed historical events. Just four years after the project was begun, the world's first time machine underwent its first test run. However, due to mounting concerns by individuals who believed that the machine would be used not only to explore history, but also to alter it. The test run would be the first and last time that the machine would be used for research purposes. The project was discontinued and Sinclair was forbidden to ever work on time distortion projects again. Time travel now being a reality, the government secretly set up the Temporal Security Annex as a means to safeguard history from sabotage. You, the members of the Temporal Protectorate, are among the very few who know of its existence.
The simplest analogy for the theory of time travel is that of a tunnel in time. When someone travels through time, a tunnel is created which originates when travel is begun, and ends when the traveller lands. If some event in the past is altered, theory states a rip occurs in the fabric of time which gives rise to a temporal chain reaction. This chain reaction takes the form of a reality distortion wave and could take anywhere from a few seconds to several hours to reach the present. Of those who aren't uncreated when the distortion wave hits, many will suddenly have a new life, and the past as we know it will cease to exist. Travelling back in time before the distortion wave hits, though, allows an agent to jump over the distortion wave and escape its effects. So as a member of the Temporal Protectorate, you alone will have the ability to jump back in time and prevent the corruption from ever happening, and to ensure that it doesn't happen again you'll have to discover the source of this disruption and bring it to a halt. - DirectorPatrick FortierMichel PouletteStarsRand MillerKira ClavellAngèle CoutuTen years after the events of Myst III: Exile (2001), Atrus calls the Stranger to Tomahna to request his friend's assistance on a crucial decision about his two sons, Sirrus and Achenar, still prisoners in two prison Ages.Atrus: Hello, my friend. I see you made it in one piece, so Yeesha's driving wasn't too erratic, I hope. Well, you're probably wondering why I asked you here, and the truth is I need your help. As you know, my sons Sirrus and Achenar were trapped 20 years ago after they destroyed many of the Ages I'd written, and at the time Catherine and I decided to leave them imprisoned 'cause we hoped it might reform them. And, uh, now Catherine believes our sons should be released. But I need an objective opinion. I must find out if either Sirrus or Achenar deserve to be freed, and you're the only one we can trust. You remember my old crystal viewer? I've made some changes to it and I haven't yet calibrated its sound component. It'll actually be quicker if we do this together. I can show you the two prison Ages before we link to them, so if you step to the panel behind you, we can begin.
What happened? This is terrible. How are we supposed to maintain contact with the ancestors if we can't harvest any globes? Forgive me. I've seen your face so often in Dream, I forget you're still a stranger here. You've been inside the memory chamber. You've seen the colourful lights crowning her walls. These are the memories of my people, taken from their bodies after their spirit's moved on. In Serenia, the memory chamber stores our memories so that future generations can still visit us in Dream. Empty globes for storing our memories are formed underwater, and we gather them using the harvester. So if I'm unable to fix it ... I must see how bad the damage is. Oh, I was supposed to tell you. A few of my sisters have gathered in the hall of spirits to dream. If you go there after they've awakened, you might be able to learn more about what happened to Yeesha. Good luck. - StarsTom BakerQuint BoaLaurel LefkowNarrator: As time passes, each lifetime harvests the forces of good and evil inherent in human nature. But nature is volatile. This book chronicles an age when the natural balance was disrupted, when men bowed down to oblivion, and a terrifying evil was unleashed. Elders who sought to protect the innocent, hid the book. So for a hundred decades, these chapters have remained dormant, but the story has to be told, and even now, as the first page turns, the cancer spreads once more. The light succumbed first, as darkness cloaked the distinctive figure of a twisted man. Souls that were not seduced by his power were bridled with pain until their spirits broke. His warped body was a testament to the pain that he consumed. Even his blood curdled as it seeped through his hollow veins keeping his vacuous heart pumping. But its beat remained strong and constant, even as his hands tightened round his wife's neck. Slowly he squeezed the life from her fragile body. She had dared to crave intimacy, and after years of chilling indifference, she'd finally turned to one she thought could save her. Nemesis had been her husband's loathed enemy. They became lovers. Tragically, Silver witnessed their infidelity, sealing both their fates. Silver had savoured his wife's pain knowing that Nemesis would be compelled to exact revenge. He was not disappointed. Nemesis saturated his soul with vengeance and planned Silver's demise. But it was Reuben, an acclaimed artist, who finally offered Nemesis ultimate retribution. He created an exhibition of paintings depicting Silver's life. His rival's vanity assured his attendance at the opening. Reuben soiled each canvas until he required only one image to fulfil his vile biography - Nemesis.

Let no human deny the perils of our time. While we battle one another, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. It is time for us as nations and as individuals to set aside our long standing feuds and unite. The tides of an unwinnable war are upon us, and we must seek refuge upon higher ground lest we be swept away by the flood. The Confederacy is no more. Whatever symbols of unity and protection it once provided is a phantom, a memory. With our enemies left unchecked, who will you turn to for protection? The devastation wrought by the alien invaders is self-evident. We have seen our homes and communities destroyed by the calculated blows of the Protoss. We have seen first hand our friends and loved ones consumed by the nightmarish Zerg. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time. The time has come, my fellow Terrans, to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength. Already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many we shall forge an indivisible whole, capitulating only to a single throne, and from that throne I shall watch over you. From this day forward, let no human make war upon any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning, and let no man consort with alien powers, and to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way, for we shall win through, no matter the cost.

The armies of the High Heavens are forbidden to interfere with Diablo's plan.Deckard Cain: Regrettably, I could do nothing to prevent the disaster which devastated Tristram. It would appear that our greatest fears have come to pass. Diablo, the lord of terror, has once again been set loose upon the world. As you know, some time ago, Diablo was slain beneath Tristram, and when our hero emerged triumphant from the labyrinth beneath town, we held a grand celebration that lasted several days. Yet as the weeks passed, our hero became increasingly aloof. He kept his distance from the rest of the townsfolk, and seemed to lapse into a dark brooding depression. I thought that perhaps his ordeal had been so disturbing that he simply could not put it out of his mind. The hero seemed more tormented every passing day. I remember he awoke many times screaming in the night. Always something about the east. One day he simply left, and shortly thereafter Tristram was attacked by legions of foul demons. Many were slain, and the demons left me to die in that cursed cage. I believe now that Tristram's hero was that dark wanderer who passed this way before the monastery fell. I fear even worse, my friend. I fear that Diablo has taken possession of the hero who sought to slay him. If true, Diablo will become more powerful than ever before. You must stop him, or all will be lost.
Deckard Cain: Never forget that your ultimate purpose here in Kurast is to destroy Mephisto. The ancient Horadrim imprisoned the lord of hatred inside the guardian tower that is located within the temple city of Travincal. Know this, friend. The only way to gain entry to Mephisto's prison is to destroy the artefact known as the Compelling Orb. Mephisto used this device to control the Zakarum priests and their followers. The Orb can only be destroyed with an ancient flail imbued with the spirit of the one incorruptible priest. Soon after his imprisonment, Mephisto worked his evil corruption on the Zakarum priesthood. All were turned to his dark ways, save one - Khalim, the Que-Hegan of the high council. Mephisto directed the other council priests to slay and dismember Khalim, and then scatter his remains across the kingdom. The priest Sankekur succeeded Khalim as Que-Hagen, eventually becoming the embodiment of Mephisto here on the mortal plane. The corrupted high council fashioned an orb to control the rest of Zakarum faithful, and used their powers to hide the lair of their master from mortals. Your task is to collect the scattered relics of Khalim - his Heart, his Brain, and his Eye. Then, using the Horadric cube, transmute Khalim's Flail with his relics. Once this is accomplished, you must destroy the Compelling Orb with Khalim's will to open the way into the corrupt sanctum of Mephisto.
Tyrael: There is a dark, tortured soul who was trapped within this forsaken realm long ago. He was called Izual by mortal men, and in ages past he was my most trusted lieutenant. Yet against my wishes, he led an ill-fated assault upon the fiery Hellforge itself. Despite his valour and strength, Izual was captured by the prime evils and twisted by their perverse power. They forced him to betray his own kind and give up heaven's most guarded secrets. He became a corrupt shadow of his former self, a fallen angel trusted neither by heaven nor hell. For his transgressions, Izual's spirit was bound within the form of a terrible creature which was summoned from the abyss. His maddened spirit has resided within that tortured husk for many ages now. And so I wait, wrapped in my cocoon of pain and loneliness. I know I've done a terrible thing to you. Something you'll never forgive me for. I wish I could change that, but I can't. I feel so pathetic and ugly laying here, waiting for you. Every day I stare up at the cracks in the ceiling and all I can think about is how unfair it all is. The doctor came today. He told me I could go home for a short stay. It's not that I'm getting better. It's just that this may be my last chance. I think you know what I mean. Even so, I'm glad to be coming home. I've missed you terribly. But I'm afraid, James. I'm afraid you don't really want me to come home. Whenever you come see me I can tell how hard it is on you. I don't know if you hate me or pity me, or maybe I just disgust you. I'm sorry about that. When I first learned that I was going to die, I just didn't want to accept it. I was so angry all the time, and I struck out at everyone I loved most. Especially you, James. That's why I understand if you do hate me. But I want you to know this, James. I'll always love you. Even though our life together had to end like this, I still wouldn't trade it for the world. We had some wonderful years together. Well, this letter has gone on too long, so I'll say goodbye. I told the nurse to give this to you after I'm gone. That means that, as you read this, I'm already dead. I can't tell you to remember me, but I can't bear for you to forget me. These last few years since I became ill, I'm so sorry for what I did to you, did to us. You've given me so much and I haven't been able to return a single thing. The unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest, and it's what we'll remember in the end. My name is Alan Wake. I'm a writer. I've always had a vivid imagination, but this dream unsettled me. It was wild and dark and weird even by my standards. So yes, it began with a dream. Following a typical nightmare pattern, I was late, desperately trying to reach my destination, a lighthouse, for some urgent reason I couldn't remember. I'd been driving too fast down a coastal road to get there. I'd seen the hitchhiker too late. He was dead. I was convinced they'd put me in jail and I would never see Alice again. Suddenly, his body was gone.
