Best To Worst (Superman)
I have long been away from this website due to a hectic job. But i am back! After watching the new Man Of Steel, i really felt like putting all the superman movies into a best to worst list. So here it is.

Thanks for all the comments, its great to see so many people discussing which one is their favorite (Its exactly what i want people to do when i make these lists). I just want to say that it was really hard placing "Man Of Steel" over "Superman 1978". Please keep in mind that i wrote this list subjectively, and that any thing i say or mean does not equal truth in any way what so ever. I'm just a guy who loves movies, just like you are :) Feel free to check out my other lists on the site.

- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.I will probably get a lot of anger targeted towards me for doing this, but i stand by my opinion. Man Of Steel is the most complete Superman movie to date. There is no doubt about it. Is that because the special effects are better? No. Maybe because it has more action? Nope... Man Of Steel is first on this list, because it gets Superman. It takes some liberties of its own, and i have seen a lot of discussions here on IMDB, because superman is more violent and less of a savior character in this movie. But that has been a character portrait manifested by the first superman movies, not in the comics.
Man Of Steel gets the most basic Superman idea down to its core. Superman is about a man trying to forge his own destiny in a world where he does not belong. Man Of Steel evolves and delves exactly into that major plot point of Superman. Thats why its the most complete Superman movie to this date. As someone who knows a bit about movie journalism and the state of modern movie critics, i can honestly say that the generated hate towards this movie from those corners of the world, is completely wrong. - DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.I still like this movie though. It was the first superhero movie i ever laid my eyes on, and i remember being blown away by it. This one plays it very safe, with the complete origin story, Lex Luthor, and Kryptonite. And that is perfectly alright. Although it might look a bit dated nowadays its still a great superhero movie. But in my honest opinion, it never delves into what makes Man Of Steel so great, and that is the whole outcast idea. Superman feels like a movie about well Superman, but nothing more extraordinary then that. Its a still a great superhero movie, it still is tons of fun but its not better than Man Of Steel.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth. As a huge source of inspiration for Man Of Steel, Superman II was our first encounter with Zod and his dangerous comrades on the big screen. It was the perfect follow up to the first installment. Last time he had to use more than superpowers to defeat the genius Lex Luthor, this time he has to fight with all of his might. It was a obvious decision, but a great one. Now as a long time Superman fan, Superman II had a lot of wasted potential, but its far from a bad movie. A perfect sequel in my opinion.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsBrandon RouthKevin SpaceyKate BosworthSuperman returns to Earth after spending five years in space examining his homeworld Krypton. But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world. Now this is probably my least favorite Superman movie to watch, just because it doesn't feel like a Superman movie. For all you angry Man Of Steel viewers out there, who cling to this one being a perfect movie, please walk away. Superman Returns was the perfect example of how not to make a superman movie. Follow up to an already established franchise? Check. Superman has a son? Check. Show more footage of Lois Lane than The supes himself? Check.
Its a tedious, boring and rather unimaginative Superman movie. Because after twenty years of not seeing our favorite hero on the big screen, what we did not want was yet another movie where Lex Luthor throws some green kryptonite at Superman. They tried to play it safe, and i do understand that, but for me it didn't work. - DirectorRichard LesterStarsChristopher ReeveRichard PryorMargot KidderEntrepreneur Ross Webster teams up with a computer genius in order to realise his own evil intentions. When Superman obstructs his plans, he decides to destroy him.Now i find more entertainment from this movie than Superman Returns, but that is simply because its at times laughably horrible. Superman flies past the tower of Pisa, making it not seem crooked anymore? Yes thats idiotic, but still funny. While Superman Returns was Gloomy, Superman III was just...Look at that of the Supes taking shots. You will know what i mean.
- DirectorSidney J. FurieStarsChristopher ReeveGene HackmanMargot KidderWith the world on the brink of a nuclear war, Superman takes it upon himself to destroy all nuclear weapons. However, Lex Luthor creates Nuclear Man, a force strong enough to take down Superman. But Superman III is nothing compared to this stink-bomb. When the big studios decided to leave Superman, some low budget studio took up Superman IV, or so i heard. It would explain just how horrible it looks. Im not just talking about special effects here. The corny 80´s music, the same shot being used for the special effects, and Nuclear Man as the main villain? Are you serious? I had to check this one out. And I'm actually glad i did. This is not an example of how to make a bad Superman movie (Superman Returns does that better), but just how to make a bad movie in general. Its considered the worst Superman movie by almost everyone, and theres a reason for it. But give it a look. Its bound to make you at least entertained.
