As for now, my 10 favorite movies ever! + 3 honorable mentions
Counting up what movies you love the most is never easy. In fact, it's a living fucking hell. Picking out the candidates wasn't THAT hard, you just have to keep a slightly higher standard on quality than before. CHOOSING between them though, that's the awful part. In fact, if I hadn't made sure to also have honorable mentions, I would have totally ditched this list immidiately and thought "Meh, I'll save it for later... MUCH later..." But here it is! And while some of the choices pretty easily is on someone else's list, a couple of them will also make you yell "WHAT THE FUCK, DUDE?" But goddamn it, I don't want to take the time to give a shit about that. Enjoy the list! OBS! IMDB won't let me start with 10 and then go down to 1, so if you see it start at 1, it's actually the TENTH best film. Get it? Good. Let's roll!

- DirectorVincent GarenqStarsPhilippe TorretonWladimir YordanoffNoémie LvovskyA family man battles to prove his innocence after being accused of a heinous crime.Right from the start, you are instantly torn as it's very easy to see that the man accused is innocent and the actor portraying him pulls of perhaps the most realistic performance I've ever seen in a movie! The mood and dark and filled with hopelessness and there's not a single moment where you want to take your eyes away from the screen.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletBilly ZaneA seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic. The story itself is pretty damn incredible and for that, it has to be told the best way possible. And that's exactly what this movie does. The acting is absolute perfection, the best one of them being Billy Zane as Caledon. I have no idea why he NEVER, and I really mean NEVER is praised by people, since he in my eyes is the best bad guy I've ever seen and he pulls it off with such a carisma! Okay, there still are some illogical goofs and inaccuracies, but they aren't notable enough, so cheers up for James Cameron's neatest work!
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodEli WallachLee Van CleefA bounty hunting scam joins two men in an uneasy alliance against a third in a race to find a fortune in gold buried in a remote cemetery.Western is admittedly a fairly limited genre. Sooner or later, it will get hard to come up with original ways to make a story about a bankrobbery, a duel, a corrupt sheriff, yeah you get the idea. But that problem can be solved with very interesting character, the finest actors you can find and a great script. And just as I hoped, everything floated together nicely in this wonderful Sergio Leon-film! Clint Eastwood aside, the real scene-stealer is Eli Wallach as Tuco, who is so charming he could as well get his own movie!

But we know how spin-offs often suck, so screw that. - DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsColin FarrellKiefer SutherlandForest WhitakerPublicist Stuart Shepard finds himself trapped in a phone booth, pinned down by an extortionist's sniper rifle. Unable to leave or receive outside help, Stuart's negotiation with the caller leads to a jaw-dropping climax.People will hate me for it, but... damn it, I love this movie! Before this, I had only seen Colin Farrell in "Miami Vice" which is one of the biggest disgraces to film-making history. However, I don't recall how his acting was there and the plot to this movie seemed very original and creative, so I decided to watch it.
I don't know who's better, Farrell or Kiefer Sutherland, since I can swear they are equally great! Sutherland is downright eerie as the voice in the telephone (not so much after I had seen "24", but still a bit) and Farrell excellently captured the panic in the main character, who basically is in a impossible situation. They could have choosed an elevator or under the earth, but of all places, it was the phone booth the claustrophobia was set in. Very good choice. 80 minutes may seem a little short, but after all, it's a man trapped in a phone booth, so they simply did the best they could of it! - DirectorRon HowardStarsRussell CroweEd HarrisJennifer ConnellyA mathematical genius, John Nash made an astonishing discovery early in his career and stood on the brink of international acclaim. But the handsome and arrogant Nash soon found himself on a harrowing journey of self-discovery.Based on a fascinating true event, this movie is one of those pulling strongest at my heartstrings. I've never made much note to Russell Crowe before, but he is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in role as John Nash, who really couldn't have been played more convincing. Interested by mathematics, it's hard to watch when Nash's life takes a turn for the worse when imagination starts to take over reality all too much. Nash's fear is portrayed very realistically and feels like a truly honest depiction of somebody with schizophrenia, showing that it can just as much just be a guy with bad luck rather than just someone being completely crazy. Therefore, it's not only a fantastic of entertainment, but also an important education piece, even though Nash in real life in addition made some *beep* up anti-semitic comments. (Well, ANY anti-semitic comment is *beep* up, I guess)
The emotion doesn't feel forced in the slightest (except for maybe the "pen"-scene, if you know what I mean) and it's impossible to not be touched by this one-of-a-kind masterpiece! - DirectorPeter BrookStarsJames AubreyTom ChapinHugh EdwardsSchoolboys marooned on a Pacific island create their own savage civilization.Wow, I can't believe my eyes. People hate this movie? Are they insane?! After what must be the most gripping opening I've seen, we are lead into hell which is the island the little kids are trapped on. At first they get along, but soon, some of them start to show their real colors...
What can I say? These actors seem like naturals! It's almost as if the director said "Go out on the set and just do somethin'" and voila! you have the most impressive cast of child actors! If they contributed in a another movie after this, I don't care. They are marvelous here and it's frightening to see how easily people can start trusting each other. Especially when it comes to the kids here, since no adult can come and tell them to calm down and think rational. And I've got to tell you, it's not often a kid in a movie that isn't obsessed by the devil spooks me out!
Some have complained about the sound quality, but I think it's a plus, as it gives the movie a very documentary feel. - DirectorAlan ParkerStarsJodie FosterScott BaioFlorence GarlandThe classic gangster story of Bugsy Malone told with an all-child cast.Musicals is not exactly a majority of the movies I watch. I don't have anything against the genre exactly, it's just that I can't really bring myself to think "Damn, I feel like watching a musical today and make myself sing all day long!"
It has to be done right though. It's okay that the story is a bit cheesy if the songs are naturally performed and well... doesn't suck. "Rent" doesn't work in the slightest. I tried watching it for ten minutes or so, but that was enough to make me think the songs are cringeworthy forced and filled with stupid lyrics! If the whole movie is like that, I'm almost certain anyone blows their head off! "Sound Of Music" partly works, but it feels a bit too long and it's sometimes maybe a bit sugar-cotey. For example, the first ten minutes of the movie was awful. Hearing a song about nuns describing their lives in a convent... was simply not entertaining at all. This movie, though, works in every imaginable way! The story is totally unsentimental. It's pretty a junior gangster movie, which you have to admit is pretty cool. The actors and characters and funny, the songs are charmy and incredible (My GOD, are the singers great!!!) and even the interlude music is perfect. This is one of the very few movies I can watch over and over again without getting tired of it. Even musical-haters should love it! - DirectorPeter WeirStarsRobin WilliamsRobert Sean LeonardEthan HawkeMaverick teacher John Keating returns in 1959 to the prestigious New England boys' boarding school where he was once a star student, using poetry to embolden his pupils to new heights of self-expression.I really like Robin Williams. Both in comedy and in serious movies. Just put him in anything and he'll make it better. Anyway, the theme of students wanting to be independent, with an unconventional teacher is put in the context of poetry (which is a bit similar to a large part of "Wild Generation", but *beep* FAILED there) which may sound boring as hell, but is made surprisingly interesting here. And while poetry doesn't appeal to me particularly, I think a teacher like John Keating would've been a lot of fun to have in the classroom. I'm afraid I can't think of much to say, but it's very powerful and will provoke all kinds of emotions.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.WOW!!!
Stanley Kubrick, will you marry me? The imagery, the atmosphere and the music matches together to one hundred percent. Perhaps more. There's not much room for acting, but it's better than one would expect in a movie like this. Douglas Rain voices the most rad computer you've witnessed; HAL 9000. The line "Sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that." will never ever disappear from my head.
Hell, "Gravity" is great, but this will always be the most important and well-made sci-fi cinema has offered. It's mind-blowing how not a single second was spilled despite how long this movie was. Every moment of silence, every slow minute, keep it there. Because without it, it wouldn't have made as big an impact as it did. - DirectorDavid LynchStarsAnthony HopkinsJohn HurtAnne BancroftA Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous façade, there is revealed a person of kindness, intelligence and sophistication. This is the living proof black-and-white not only still works, but also haven't stopped being effective.
When I was a kid, the opening scared the living *beep* out of me. That shaky camera-work combined with someone being tramped to death, that's something you simply don't forget. Even today, that scene still gives me chills.
This has to officially be a contender for one of the most depressing movies ever made. You could almost cry over the bare fact that it was a true story and everything feels so real it's shocking. I swear to God there's not even ONE thing that doesn't make the movie feel like... well... just a movie. And the horrible thing is, it's not mixed-up to contain only one or so percent of the actual story sorted in with a lot of Hollywood-crap. This really happened. I think it's disgusting how humanity can be so cruel, so unaccepting of people who doesn't follow the "beauty-rule". This was clearly made to have judgmental individuals look themselves in the eyes.
Anthony Hopkins is super as the sympathetic and understanding Fredick, who takes care of John Merrick, the... uuum... "elephant" man. While my favorite actor may be Jack Nicholson, none could have been as mesmerizing as John Hurt in this movie, who must have played the role of his life. - DirectorJohn CrowleyStarsAndrew GarfieldPeter MullanShaun EvansThe story of a young Jack, newly released from serving a prison sentence for a violent crime he committed as a child.HONORABLE MENTION:
I'm not gonna say anything. I'm already too pissed off I'm caring about a *beep* murderer. But YES, Andrew Garfield is great here. - DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsAl PacinoMichelle PfeifferSteven BauerIn 1980 Miami, a determined Cuban immigrant takes over a drug cartel and succumbs to greed.HONORABLE MENTION:
Mobster movies are one of my favorite genres. And while I've seen waaaaaay too few, I can with ease assure you that you are missing out on a perfect movie experience here is you don't take a watch at the complex and fascinating character of Tony Montana, portrayed by Al Pacino. It may have some similarities with "Casino", but it still separates itself enough to be interesting and entertaining (don't take me wrong, I loved "Casino" too). The movie successfully manages to be very funny and tragic at the same time, without becoming a pure-out-and-in comedy or self-parody, and that's an astonishing accomplishment. The ending is so memorable and brilliant that excluding this from the list would be offensive. - DirectorMikhail BrashinskiyStarsTatyana KolganovaTimofey EletskiyTatyana RyabokonA group of Russian tourists go on a shopping spree to the neighboring Finland - only to be attacked by the Finnish cannibals. We focus on a middle-aged woman and her teenage son who is shooting the film, as we watch it, on his cell-phone.HONORABLE MENTION:
A russian black comedy about Finnish cannibals? How can you NOT love it?! Finding information about this movie is not easy, but anyhow, Tatyana Kolganova plays the mother while Timofey Yeletskiy plays the son. Sure, the movie is near pitch dark, but is handled with so hugh amounts with comic relief I found myself laughing almost every minute. Every characteristics and joke works! Everything Finnish "traditional" collective suicide to the quirky conversations of the two leads. The only bad thing is that it's way too short, as I wanted so much more, but after all, doesn't it prove how wonderful it really is?!
